How do I remove old music and playlists?

I tried to remove old music by selecting Sync Music, Selected Playlists etc, And only checked the 3 playlists I wanted. All the playlists got synced. Help!

If you connect it to your iTunes library and allow a Sync to take place, you should see a message telling you that everything will be removed from the ipod (if you let it Sync). Then, the content of your Library will be added to the iPod (if you have selected those options).

I did a "full" backup to my computer of my old iPod, and restored my new iPod from that backup, but my music is completely empty and I don't want to manually put all my music and playlists back together. Help???

FIrst transfer the music from your old iPod to your iTunes by simply syncing it! After that,
How about syncing your new iPod with the 'Sync Music' box checkmarked ?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only ex eption is itunes purchases: File>Deviecs>Transfer Purchases

  • How can I remove old musics from my Ipod to put new ones using ITunes

How do I change and manage my musics on the Ipod Nano using windows 7 and ITunes?

That's a very general question, so here are two documents from Apple for using automatic syncing and manually managing content.
Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB - Apple Support
Manage content manually on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod - Apple Support
If your question is actually about removing content (you know how to add content), you are probably using the manual method to add content, and don't know how to manually remove content.  For iTunes 12, on the horizontal bar that goes across the iTunes window (near the top), click the Music button near the left end.  Near the middle of same bar, click Playlists.  The sidebar appears along left side of window and Devices, your iPod is listed.  Click the small triangle to the left of the iPod's name, to drop down its content list (indented below iPod).  Click Music there.  To the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with one or more songs selected.
You can also use the iPod's "management" screen.  Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see its Summary settings screen.  In the sidebar, under On My Device, click Music.  This is the same as on the "content list" described above.

  • Changed file directory path on new drive...how do I import my music and playlist?

Previously I had relocated my iTunes library successfully to an internal secondary drive on my old PC.  Years later, my PC crashed and i had to reinstall everything, also upgraded from xp to Win7.  Due to preference' storage, I installed iTunes (v11) onto my c drive, but want my iTunes library on my secondary d drive. Should mention that I was able to saved all my iTunes music and apps from the crash.  So I installed iTunes on c drive.  Obligatory iTunes media file was installed by program default into my music, of which I deleted.  I opened iTunes and set media file path in advanced setting to d:\itunes, which is the folder that I have prior sub folders for music, apps, TV, movies, etc with xls and itl file as was previous before crash.  Closed and reopened iTunes. Did not recognize library.  So then I moved xls and itl file out of the folder to desktop, closed and reopened.  Recognized some music, and wanted me to download from the cloud music that was physically in the folder.  No apps recognized. Wanted me to turn on home sharing, which I don't think will work in my case as I have no oither computers running itunes .  as there was no option to import a library in v11, I deleted this version.  Next, I installed version 9 from apple support site.  Again deleted iTunes media folder (empty) set by default in my music on c drive.  Set file path in. ITunes advanced tab to d:\itunes as previous, where library is now located.  Then imported xls file in iTunes folder on d drive through library tab.  This worked to a point.   All music in iTunes music folder and playlists were now showing in iTunes.  Apps are not.  Yes, have app tab checked.  Also, when xls file was imported, new iTunes media file folder was recreated in my music on c drive, and duplicate copies of all music files imported from original music folder on d drive were created within the iTunes folder on d drive.  Clarification: my library is set up on d drujve as such: have a main iTunes folder, then sepereate subfloders for TV, music, apps, books, etc., versus having a iTunes media folder containing all these separate subfolders.  So you can imagine, had original music files in music folder, and then had duplicate music files created in the original iTunes folder intermixed with music, app, books sub folders as a result of this step.  Also tried placing music, books, app folders into a media sub folder, with no change.  Never even got to step of syncing ipad.  Just trying to re establish previously working library.  Sorry so long a message.  Stumped.  Help!

I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop due to a total hard drive failure. Is there a way to transfer all my music (non purchased) and play lists back to the new drive?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thirdparty program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Macke a backup of the iPOd by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking one the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
I do not think the playlists will be restored.

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

Yes.  You can sync everything that is currently on your iPod Touch to your newer one. Just plug it in and sync it like you did with the old one.
If you want to retain your App data, see this article for information on backing up your current iPod Touch and restoring the backup onto a new one.

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

  • How do I transfer music and playlists from an external hard drive to my new computer?

I just got a new pc and I need to transfer music and playlists that were saved to an external drive from 2 seperate computers.  There are 2 different sets of music and playlists, one mine and the other my husbands.
Is it possible to put both onto my new pc, and if so...how.  I am needing a step by step instruction as I am not real familiar with how to make these changes on iTunes.
    Thanks in advance

  • How to access music and playlists on the same computer, for both Microsoft accounts?

    Hello all,
My husband and I recently got a new computer and are running Windows 8.1. We were able to successfully use an external hard drive to transfer all of the music and playlists over so that I can access them on my user account (I am the "main" user). All of my playlists are present exactly as they were previously. This is the location of the iTunes media folder on our hard drive: C:\Users\Brittany\Music\iTunes
However, when my husband logs on as a user separately, the iTunes program is there, but we are only able to get him very limited access to some music. We can't get him access to any of the playlists, which is where the bulk of the music is.
We've tried everything. We've double-checked that he's an Administrator. We've made sure that all the folders are shared between us. We can both read and write to this folder location. We've gone into the preferences in iTunes itself and told it where we want it to find the iTunes Media folder. We also tried moving the iTunes media folder into the public shared music folder, and that didn't do a darn thing either. Nothing works.
I feel like we are missing some critical step somewhere. Or maybe we screwed something up somehow. I don't know. All I know is that it seems crazy if we're not going to be able to access the exact same version of iTunes complete with playlists. What gives?
    Please help! Thank you!

We've gone into the preferences in iTunes itself and told it where we want it to find the iTunes Media folder.
This step is wrong. Make sure the iTunes folder in your profile is visible from his login, then press and hold down shift as you launch iTunes and browse to the iTunes Library.itl file in your library. It may be easier to store the library at C:\iTunes and have both accounts access it there.
See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for advice on how to keep the backup copy of your library on the external drive up to date.

  • I have an iPod Classic 5th Gen.  After 1 month I've lost all my music and playlist files.  The only files left are music I have purchased from iTunes.  How do I restore my music library to my iPod?

I have an iPod Classic 5th Generation.  I have not used it for about one month.  When I turned it on, I had lost all my music and playlist files.  The only thing left on the iPod was the music and audio books I have purchased from iTunes store.  I tried to delete everything on the ipod by sliding the hold button and then pressing the center button and the menu and I saw the apple logo on the screen but the iPod wouldn't reboot.  Any suggestions as to how I can delete everything on the iPod and then plug it into my computer to restore my music library?  I am using a Windows 7 operating system.

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!
