How do I remove on my mac data from address book

I want to get rid of my on my mac data from address book locally on my imac and just use the icloud data to populate address book.  Someone else set up my other machines in the office that way, and I want to do it the same on this imac.  How can I do this?
Thank you.

Hi Csound1,
I am stogling with the same issue posted on this discussion.
Exchange2013 and raw contacts populated on my contacts as well as on the exchange server (I have seeing it using a PC and outlook).
You sugest to clean on My Mac contacts. Do not set on My Mac as a default account. Following is what I found:
There is no way to get out the on My Mac account from contacts.
There is no way set any default account on contacts>preferences>general
The on My Mac contacts list IS EMPTY and the '-' sign is hidden on the contacts>preferences>accounts.
When I turn on my Exchange Account on my contacts are downloaded from the server, however, I still not able to set ANY DEFAULT ACCOUNT at all.
If I leave like it is 2 days later I will have at least a dozen of those expurious emails on my contacts list.
Thanks,
Edson

  • How do you control layouts of label printing from address book / contacts

Has anyone found a smart way or some smart software to help me with this ?
I want to select  a subset of my contacts in address book and give the group a name, like "Xmas cards". As I add new contacts I want to occasionally add some of them to this sub group.
Then at Xmas I want to print off the postal addresses of the contacts in this sub group onto standard Avery labels to use on my Xmas card envelopes.
I know there is a way of printing from address book to labels, but I don't seem to have any control on the label font, font size or layout.
Ideally I would like to use a currently unused field in address book to store the way I would like the first line of the contact to print such as " Mr and Mrs Smith" or "John Smith and Jane Doe" - which may be different from the way record the  "name" field. So I need flexibility of choosing which fields to print in which order on the labels
Does anyone else do something like this and how? Do you use some third party software to help manage it?

I have succesfully migrated my data from my 2006 MacBook to a new 2011 MacBook Pro. How do I delete ALL of my personal data from the MacBook so my girlfriend can use it to support iTunes and her iPod?

Order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 from The Apple Store as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.
Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility.
You can now follow the instructions on the install screen

  • How can I remove all Time Machine data from an external HD, while retaining the other folders/files on the disk?

I recently replaced my old Macbook Pro with a new Macbook Pro Retina.
The original MBP had Time Machine set up on an external HD, and I also had some manually saved/backed up files (stuff that didn't need incremental backups; very old stuff) on the disk as well, in folders.  This worked fine and well for the life of the original MBP.
When I set up the MBPr, I did not elect to transfer everything over from a Time Machine disk, as I wanted a Fresh Install; I chose to just re-download/install the apps  I needed from the App Store.  Much cleaner, more stable.  I updated to Yosemite immediately so, it gave me more of a  clean install.
The problem is, Time Machine now won't read any Time Machine backups from that disk.  Migration assistant can pull data from it, but it's a bit wonky.  It was easier to just manually copy over what I needed.
Now, I just want to "reset", and completely remove the old Time Machine data from the external hard drive, since it is completely useless to me now (I can't access it on this computer, and it's taking up space).  I want to remove the Time Machine data, as if it were never there, but keep my other folders/files that are on the disk (so, a format is not feasible).
I will then set the disk up as a new, fresh Time Machine disk for the new MBPr.
What is the proper method for removing Time Machine data from an external disk (which doesn't seem to be associated with this machine anyway)?  I know a simple rm -rf will cause problems.
    Thanks for any help provided.

  • How can I export to a text file from address book?

I started a group in Address Book for a project. Now it is the most complete database of folks involved. I want to send it to some folks who live in the PC world.
Exporting as a VCF or address book archive just doesn't do it.
    Any and all suggestions welcome.

The feature to export SWF files directly from After Effects has been removed. It never worked at all well.
To create SWF files, use Flash Professional.
If you want to play a movie that you've created in After Effects in a SWF container, then export your composition using Adobe Media Encoder in H.264 format and then link or embed that movie into a SWF file in Flash Professional.

  • Numbers '08 importing data and merging data from address book .....

    HI all,
This is the time of year we have to tot-up all of our kilometers travelled to clients which is a real headache.
I am really keen to get this automated somehow and would be very grateful for some help.
    Here are the details:
We use the address book app as our client database which includes name, address and kilometers from our base.
We have an accounting appcilation which lists all invoices by name, includes a date and I could also input the km in here if needed.
I would like to create a spread sheet in numbers that will contain a list of all clients invoiced and the kms traveled to their place from our base.
I can get the client list by getting our accounting software to output the data in CSV format, then input the data into numbers, however, I have a couple of queeries regarding the kms values and the import process ....
    (a) firstly, I used to use in excel a very useful function of importing text from text edit, where I was able to choose what delimited a field, spaces, commas, even just width, does this also exist in Numbers? I have looked with no you.
    (b) next the kms values, is there any automated way to match the client names in my excel sheet and pull in the kms values from the address book field?
If not, they could be inputed into my accounting software each time I enter a record, it just means a bit more work for me on a daily basis.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. I'm sure there is a clever way of getting round this somehow ....

Feature unavailable in Numbers '09 too

Numbers have no provision to communicate with other applications.
With Numbers '09, we may fit the gap with AppleScript but there is no AppleScript support in Numbers '08.

  • How can I remove a deleted content file from my book's Table of Contents? I

I deleted the file, saved the book, updated the book, updated the TOC references, and confirmed that the file has been deleted -- but it's still there in the TOC. How can I get it out of there? And at what point in the proceedings should it be gone from the TOC?

    > I deleted the file ....
How? You need to delete-from-book using the Book menu. A right-click option on the component file name.
    > ... updated the book, ...
A necessary step, but might not work if the remove isn't done correctly.
    > .... updated the TOC references ...
    What does that mean?
I would expect a delete-from-book, followed by an update-book, would suffice.

  • Can't Select or Copy Text or Data from Address Book Contact Card w/out Edit

Is it something I am doing wrong or did someone at Apple have the weird idea to make it impossible to select/copy text in a contact card in Address Book?
Can you drag/select/copy a URL in a contact card in Address Book, e.g. if you had to paste it into another program or even a different contact card? Thanks.

that would be the latter although i suspect it's a bug. it is now also impossible to select all in an address card to quickly copy and paste into a text document. you have to do it one field at a time and it doesn't seem to work with URL at all.

    Hello Gabriella,
I don't have pages, but it looks like Pages must have a built in feature...
Mail merge automatically populates custom fields with contact data from Address Book or from Numbers to create personalized documents

  • How do you make the icloud contacts push to address book.

I just updated all my contacts and groups in icloud -- NOT KNOWING that I would not be able to export them. I just need all the email addresses from a particular "group." I found out how to do that really easily this morning from Address Book (to big vcard, then save as CVS, and I was so happy. Then I updated everything, but none of the updates are showing in Address Book. I can't see anyway to make that happen. And there seems to be no way to export contacts from icloud. This is a major morning lost. Do I really have to start all over? By the way, I need the email addresses to do an evite, which is already a week late going out.

Nevermind. I had lunch and when I came back most of my changes were there. Thanks anyway!

  • Is it possible to subscribe to dates in Address Book other than birthdays?

iCal can subscribe to birthdays that have been entered into Address Book.  Is it possible to have iCal pick up other dates that have been included in Address Book entries (anniversary, etc)?
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
I wrote an application that would enable you do this. Take a look at Dates to iCal. It is £4 shareware with a 3 week demo.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. It application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified.
    Best wishes

  • How to reliably remove Find My Mac from an old machine? (Lion and later)

    Hi,
My company buys old Macs and resells them. Our current process involves wiping the disk using Disk Utility and reinstalling the OS via NetInstall. Recently we've discovered that this process does not remove old Find My Mac controls from previous owners.
From some initial experimenting, my current hypothesis is that a machine's Find My Mac data is stored in the EFI partition, which is not wiped by Disk Utility. (I haven't even figured out how to wipe it with diskutil -- I've only managed to "re-virginize" the drive completely using gparted in Linux.)
Does anybody have any experience with this and the most streamlined way to deal with removing Find My Mac controls from a 10.7.2+ machine? I realize that this may be something Apple's not hugely willing to talk about publicly as the information could be used for nefarious purposes. In our case, it's completely legal resale.
    Thanks!

  • How do I remove my App store information from a Mac about to be sold

How do I remove my App Store information from
a Mac about to be sold ?

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer with the machine.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")
