How do I remove the Skype icon from the desktop that is on my left on the taskbar ?

Greetings to all, I have a Windows 7. 64--bit with SP--1. I have been unable, by searching, to find a way to remove the Skype icon from the desktop. It is on my left on the taskbar. Do I need to remove it in the registry ? If yes, how ? Thank you Ldxrunner

Are you trying to remove Skype entirely, or just get rid of the tool tray icon?
IIRC, you get that icon as long as Skype is running in the background. There's a checkbox in Skype options that will keep it from running on startup. That will eliminate the icon but you won't get notified for incoming calls.

Every time I open Google Earth or Firefox, I little icon pops up on my desktop as a "disk". To make it go away I have to eject it. OK...I just figured out!
When I dragged the icon down to my dock, I actually used the one from the volume instead of the one from my applications folder. Therefore it always wanted to open the .dmg file instead of the actual program. I THINK I said that all correctly! Thanks for the help though, you gave me the idea to try something different than I was and I found the solution.

Guys this is absolute rubbish feature of the login application where people's login names get recorded in the dropdown menu. Is there any more permanent way of getting rid of this annoying privacy intrusive "feature"? I would like to have a profile with a username that is not going to appear at airports and my grandma's laptop after I log out of skype and no I do not want to go digging for app files to remove my entire history on each and every machine I use as suggested by your help files. Could you please advise if I'm missing something here?

Easy ! I use Comodo Pro Firewall.
1) Click on DEFENSE box.
2) Click on "View Active Process List"
3) Look down the list of processes. Find APDPROXY.EXE.
4) Click it, then click "Terminate and Quarantine"
5) ALL DONE ! No more icon in tray and the program is killed.
APDPROXY - This is lurking about, you can find it on SEARCH from the START button. BUT, you cannot delete it or move it and MSCONFIG does not work. You can disable it as many times as you like - it will keep coming back.
SOLUTION ! Download CCleaner, it is a great little program and free.
Using this you can click on TOOLS, then STARTUP. A list of programs are shown which are enabled at STARTUP. Disabling does not work, just click on APDPROXY and click DELETE. It`s GONE !
All over in a flash - no more ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER.

I have an undecorated JFrame (no titlebar, minimize, restore, close buttons) and i want to remove it being shown on the windows taskbar. is there a way in Swing to do this?
If not is there any other way i can show some content that appears free floating on the desktop and does not show up on the taskbar.

I've got an app's icon in my dock with a question mark in it. I am unable to remove the icon from the dock(I should be able to push the icon out with my cursor and have it go "poof" but can't). I deleted the app from my hard drive but the errant icon persists. I would think that there would be a file in my system representing the icon but can't locate it. First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
Then move these files to the Desktop...

It didn't work, I'm sorry to say, but thanks for the idea. As to the "root user privileges" method, I wouldn't even consider it. My computer "skills" are definitely not at the level for trying anything that could be described in those terms. Still, there is hope. I found the creator of the program and sent him an e-mail message this morning.

How do I remove migrated PPC apps from Intel iMac that has the same apps?

Before I begin, please know that I've read a lot of previous posts but all the posts only had some of what I needed so I'm posting this as a new topic. OK, here I go:
My PPC running 10.5 just froze-up (that has since been solved) but in the process of solving that issue, I migrated everything as a different user (User B) INCLUDING my applications, to my Intel iMac - my iMac that also had the same applications on it - except they were intel versions and they were under User A.
So I essentially did an archive and clean install on my PPC.
Then, using Migration Assistant, I transferred User B onto my PPC. Now both of my computers have duplicates of most of my applications. In trying to fix this issue, I found out I should NOT have transferred my applications. So now I'm very confused as to which apps I should remove off my PPC and which I should remove off my intel iMac.
If I just delete User B from my intel iMac, that's easy enough but will that remove the dupes? I have a funny feeling it doesn't.
And then, which do I remove from my PPC?
AND THEN, are there other things I will need to remove from different places on my computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Normally application go in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive, not in any user folders. If you have applications in user folders that are the same as those in the Applications folder, you can delete them from the user folders. If you actually migrated PPC applications into the Applications folder on an Intel Mac, it would have replaced the Intel versions. To fix that,you would have to reinstall OSX on the Intel Mac.
The same thing would apply on the PPC Mac.

Somehow, the icon appears to the right of my print icon in the location bar and automatically pops-up when I go to any website. You need to immediately change the password for the Apple ID, for starters. If have iCloud and Find My iphone enabled on the device you can remotely wipe the device. If you do not then there is nothing you can do except change the password for the account.
