How do I rename an existing catalog

how do I rename an existing catalog

Lightroom doesn't have that capability within the software.
The easiest way is to:
Locate your catalog in your OS file manager. Rename the Catalog and the Preview folder without touching anything to the right of the decimal point. The names must be identical to the left of the decimal point for the Catalog and the Preview Folders.
When finished, double click the NEWNAME.LRCAT to reopen LR with the renamed catalog.

  • If I make minor keyword updates in Bridge, how do I update an existing catalog to catch the changes?

Is there a way to update the LR3 keyword hierarchies in existing LR catalogs for minor changes done in Bridge?
I have started to use LR for the first time.  I have about 50K photos that are key worded from within Bridge in maybe a hundred sub dirs.  The hierarchies seem to work somewhat differently in Bridge than in Lightroom catalogs & don't seem to handshake with each other. Apparently I should have originally turned on the keyword hierarchies in preferences in the Bridge when I originally set the keywords. I have hundreds of keywords without hierarchies. Now I want to correct the (missing delimiters) hierarchies in LR3 (using the most efficient method).
(The hierarchies do not show up on Bridge filters, so I saw no reason to use them originally, when I had fewer keywords).  Correcting the hierarchy in LR seems to not go back and correct the Bridge hierarchies.  So if there is a way to get the keyword hierarchy to update back from LR to Bridge, that would be the easiest way to fix the hierarchies, but I don't see how to do it.  Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    ron...

It will depend on if you saved the metadata from LR to the file or not. If not and you update the keywords in bridge, you will loose one or the other your choice.
If you saved the metadata, then its a simple matter of just reading the metadata into LR or syncing that file.
If you plan on editing metadata in bridge from time to time, then you need to get in the habit of saving the metadata (ctrl-s in windows) from LR or turn on autosave.

  • How do I add products to the existing catalog?

    Shashi,
If you go to the catalog admin tools and search on "*" for example you
should see all the catalog items. Please describe in detail what you are
    doing.
Besides that, what differentiates one catalog for one domain with theother catalog
for another domain?Baring other configuration changes - nothing. The catalog items are loaded
from the RDBMS, so if each domain is using the same sample data you should
    see the same catalog.

  • Are Virtual Copies saved in Backups? How do I insert a backup into an existing catalog?

Are Virtual Copies saved in Backups? How do I insert a backup into an existing catalog
I deleted a tif image file that I didn't intend to, which had several LR virtual copies created from it. The virtual copies had a lot of important history that document my print preparation edits. Are these virtual copies saved in the LR backups?
If so, how can I insert them into the catalog I am using? I have made a lot of edits in the two days since my last backup and don't want to lose that history either. Do you suggest I make a current backup before retrieving files from my last backup? I know I'm supposed to go to the backup location and open the last backup, but how do I blend that with the current work from the last 2 days?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Tom

    Rob,
That was exactly what I was after. However, I'm still having trouble getting the virtual copies imported. The master file was in my trash, I restored it to the original hard drive folder. Before I got your message I re- imported it to LR but of course LR came up with a new name since I was importing from and saving it to the same folder in LR. And of course no copies. This may have been a mistake, but before starting the procedure you described, I re-named the master file (it seemed that the import from backup would re-create it so I didn't want  a conflict).
Then I did what you said and used the 'Import From Another Catalog' feature. I found the virtual copies in the backup and checked them. But when the import completed, the it gave me file names  xxx/Copy1, xxx/Copy2 but there was no image or history or metadata. When I tried to find the folder containing the files, it said it couldn't be found. So I missed something in the settings. When I tried again, there was a warning saying the file(s) exists in the catalog and its settings differ. I went ahead anyway and the message I got was "No Photos in previous import"
Here's what the import from backup shows:
A box with catalog contents and all the folders and files within them, that you can check.
A New Photos section, which gives 2 file handling choices: a)add new photos to the catalog without moving them or b) don't import new photos
A Changed existing photos section with 2 replace options: a) nothing or b) Metadata and develop setting only. If you choose this you can check a box to preserve old settings as a virtual copy.
Not sure what to do. I changed the master file back to its original name, but that didn't make a difference. Suggestions? Thanks, Tom

  • How to remain existing catalog?

I would like to rename one of catalogs. How do I do it. I can't find any info in the help section.
Also, I wanted to export one of my folders to a new catalog to hopefully increase the speed of my most active catalog. I highlighted on the folder which I wanted transferred to a new folder and then clicked on "file/export as catalog ". The result was the transfer of the entire catalog, not just the folder selected, into a new folder.
How do I delete all the images of the ONE folder from the original catalog and then all of the images except the one folder which I wished transferred in the new catalog?
As you can tell, I'm really confused and am afraid that I might delete my images for good if I begin to try different methods to accomplish what I want done.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Help! I renamed an existing file in Reader (Mobile) to begin with "." and it disappeared. Unable to search for it. How can I recover it? [iOS]

I was attempting to organize my files in Reader (on iPad) and I tried renaming an existing file to begin with "." in an attempt to put it at the top of my list, so that I could easily find it. It completely diappeared and if I search for it, it doesn't appear. Help!!!

    Hi,
A file or folder name starting with '.' ("dot" or "period") is considered hidden on most operating systems.  By naming a file starting with '.', you accidentally hid the file and made it inaccessible to all iOS apps.
I'd highly recommend using '_' ("underscore") in the future.
We have already made the change to the new Acrobat DC for iOS app (version 15.0.x) so that it disallows the rename operation with '.' as the first character.  (I assume that you are using Adobe Reader for iOS on iOS 7 or older iOS version.)
To recover your hidden file, you need to use a Windows or Mac desktop/laptop computer, install a File Manager app (e.g. iExplorer free demo version, iFunBox), connect your iPad, browse the file system on your iPad, and rename the file back to something else (so that it becomes "visible" again).
The exact steps vary depending on the File Manager app you choose.  You may be able to find How-To videos on the software manufacturer's web site or YouTube.
Don't worry.  Your hidden file is not permanently lost.  You just need to recover it.  Good luck!

  • How to import complete catalog into another existing catalog

    Hi,
    Lightroom 2.2
    Win XP SP2
    3GB RAM
I have LR 2.2 installed with about 10000 images on my computer at home. I've been on holiday at my parents' and have downloaded & installed an evaluation version of LR 2.2 on their computer on which I created a new catalog. In the meantime I've imported and processed about 350 images on their computer.
Before going home I'd like to export the catalog with all photos, metadata, keywords, etc. onto a jump drive. Then, when I get home, I'd like to import all of these images & data into my existing catalog.
I've researched this a bit, and it seems to be a straight-forward operation if only the images and a certain subset of the metadata is to be imported. However, I'd like _everything_ to be imported. Anybody have experience doing this?
    Thanks,
    Jens

This will work perfectly. Just select all the images you want to transfer and under the file menu, select export as catalog. Be sure to check the option to export the negative files. I'd export this catalog onto the computer its on, and then copy the exported catalog to your jump drive - depending on the size of your originals and preview, the catalog might be quite large.
When you get home, I'd transfer the catalog from your jump drive onto your computer. Then start LR and under the File menu select import from catalog. It will ask where you want to put the negative (original) files, and then it will import them without a hitch. I've done this several times with never a problam.

  • Rename presentation layer catalog

    Hi,
I have renamed the presentation layer catalog in RPD. When I am seeing the dashboard all the reports are getting displayed but when I see the individual reports I am getting :"Either you do not have permission to use the subject area X within Answers, or the subject area does not exist" on the left side of the report. Can anyone tell me how can we rename the presentation layer catalog with individual reports not showing the above statement?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Option 1 :
use the rename wizard ( tols-> utility-> rename wizard) to change the name of presentation catalog
    option 2 :
go to answers of that report->go to advance tab
    under
Enter the name of the Subject Area : write the new subject area

    CREATE TABLE test_table (

alter table doesn't allow to change the organization of a table.
So the logical answer to your question is
    You can not
    and your question
    redundant.
    As most other questions here.
So the answer should have been
    - create a new table
    - insert all rows
    - drop the old table
    - rename the new table
Oracle is not about rocket science.
Oracle is about reading documentation and using brains.
If you do that, maybe, one day, you will be a bigboy.
If you keep asking redundant questions you will remain a littleboy.

  • How do I Rename Mac Hard Drive with Home Folder Only?

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro with an SSD which has OSX Snow Leopard and my Applications, and the other hard drive has my Home Folder. I replaced the optical drive with the SSD.
The other hard drive has the standard name of 'Macintosh HD'. I need to change it to something without spaces in order to get some developer software to work (i.e., it can't have spaces in the workspace name, and now that my Home folder is on a drive that doesn't have OSX, it refers to it as '/Volumes/Macintosh HD/.../...'
I ran into a disaster by simply changing the 'Macintosh HD' name to 'MacintoshHD' - It prevented me from logging in and I had to use the OSX Install disk to use the command line to rename the hard drive back to 'Macintosh HD'. My guess is because my account was referencing a home folder location that no longer existed.
My question is how can I rename my hard drive with my Home Folder? Can I change the hard drive name, and then immediately change my Account to reference the new hard drive name (and thus the new location of my home folder), and then reboot? Will this work if I do this in this order? Or is there another way to handle this entirely?
I'm very hesitant to try this again as I don't want to have to go back and use the OSX install disk - my SSD took the place of the optical drive and I have to go and take it out, put it back in...etc.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards
    Chicago29

I don't have a setup to test this, but you might try the following:
Create a second "normal" admin account with its home folder on the boot drive, then log out of your regular account and log into the new one. From there you could rename the large hard drive, then go to System Preferences>Accounts, select the first account, then right-click>Advanced options to change its home directory path to match the new HD name. That way you're not changing the home folder path "in mid-air."
It's probably a good idea to keep a tiny "self-contained" admin account on the boot drive anyway, so you don't get locked out in the event of future trouble accessing the large disk.

  • Can we rename the existing z-program in SAP-abap

Can we rename the existing z-program in SAP-abap. If yes, than how it can be done. But actually we don't want to copy the code from the existing z-program to the new one which will be created. We just want to make rename the existing z-program in SAP-abap. Please suggest, how it can be?

    Hi Amit,
In SE38 Open the program with old name. Press the RENAME button. In the Target program field provide the new name of program name. This new name for program should not exist in your system. Click on the Rename button. It will give a pop-up where it ask if you want to rename any includes in that program. I assume you dont have any includes in the program. So press the Rename button again without selecting the "Include" check box. Now it will ask for the Transport request. Provide your Transport request number. The program will be renamed.

  • Lightroom 3 ~ Move photos from one catalog to another, existing catalog? Not "export as new catalog"

After consulting the interwebs and the Adobe site and a book about Lightroom 3, I remain confused about how to quickly and easily get photos from one existing catalog to a different catalog, since LR doesn't allow one (for its own arcane reasons, I assume) to have more than one catalog open at once.
Say I've got a Quick Collection of stuff I previously imported into "Catalog X" when it really belongs in "Catalog Y." What is the best way to get those photos into Catalog Y? Exporting this Quick Collection as a new catalog; closing down Catalog X; bringing up Catalog Y; running an import dialogue to import that Quick Collection... well, that seems pretty ridiculous. I assume I'm missing something obvious. Anyone know what the command is?
Also, if anyone can direct me to the Lightroom 3 discussions, as the search function here seems pretty rudimentary (e.g. put "lightroom 3" in the search box and it will bring up dozens of hits for "lightroom 4.3"), that'd be awesome... thanks...

    etcetera23 wrote:
it's less confusing for me if i can just dump a whole folder full of stuff onto a drive and know that LR will look for it in that location, and not throw ?'s at me.
You can do exactly that. When the drive is plugged or on a network you have access to there will be no "?".
For offline drives "?" just do not mean anything other than plug it when you want them gone.
the lrcat could live on Dropbox or iCloud.
Yes, it could. But then I would not set Dropbox for continuous updates, as this might slow LR down. Just a triggered update once LR gets closed.
so - cornelia, when you travel, how do you handle bringing images to work on with you? for example, suppose you have 500 images you want to work on. LR believes that these images, along with many others, live in the folder BigHardDrive/prettypictures/Sep2012/ . are you working directly on those previews you mentioned, instead of looking at the originals while you're Developing, etc?
For Developing I need to have the image online, no way around that. Same for print and export. I have the images with me, preferably on my internal laptop drive, or on a USB-3.0-external disk (1-2 TB big).
For rating and other metadata adding the previews are sufficient.
When I travel on holidays to take new pictures I create a brand-new travel catalog on a small laptop and import every day the new shoot into it. I organize per day and import from all cameras into the same folder. I make a 2nd copy on a plugged USB-external drive, and I leave the camera storage card uncleared until the end of the journey. So I have 3 versions of the images.
In the evenings I have the new images completely available on the small laptop and develop them in the travel catalog. Usually I succeed only partially, as the quantity is too big, so I continue later on.
Back home I import the travel catalog into my master catalog on my big laptop, and the images onto its internal hard disk. I prefer this for speed during further development. The backup copies go on 2 different NAS drives, unnoticed by LR. Only then would I format my camera storage cards - 3 versions at any time is my motto.
Then the travel catalog has ended its life for me.
When I am done with my main editing I move the images from my internal hard disk to a 3rd NAS drive by dragging-dropping from within LR, into what I call my "LiveArchives": my master catalog will point to them 'forever'. The other 2 versions on the other NAS drives stay as they are, because I want them for being able to replenish my LiveArchives in case of failure. So LR does not know these safety-versions.
When I travel e.g. to my relatives to show images, I make sure that my master catalog has rendered all previews in the size and quality I want (standard previews 1680px high quality). Then I unplug my big laptop and go for the visit.
When I show the images, there are of course the "?", because I have no access to my NAS-drives.
I need to use the Survey-mode (N) with 1 image at a time in order not to see the black message "images is offline or missing", which would show in normal loupe view (E).
Or I show slideshows, which I have usually prepared as slideshow-collections before with rendered previews.
The biggest challenge for such slideshows is to decide how little to include to entertain your audience well - 400-600 images max, less is more.
Very nice about these visits is that I am able to quickly find almost any image my host might remember ("you know that funny face of cousin X, must have been at the birthday party of uncle Y, but I don't remember if it was Year 2003 or 2004 or possibly 2005?"). My success on this depends of course on my efforts of having added the relevant metadata. For this it is worth while to ask the others how they would search, what bits&pieces they remember - this gives you a valuable clue on how to keyword or what to put into titles/captions. Indispensable if you want to leave a legacy of images to the next generation.
If I had to close a catalog and open another one every now and then, I would not achieve that.
Same need, but very different requirements if you want to sell your images as stock.
thanks for all the suggestions. again, i am a lowly user indeed, and the professional who set me up on this, and taught me some methodologies for organizing, apparently didn't do the greatest job of it.
Well I would probably not consider him as a "professional"... but you also find on this forum some questions from poeple who claim to advise clients, where I think if they would only stop trying that...
I can just tell what works for me and why.
To advise others I need to understand their real needs - mostly there are several ways how to accomodate that - what will work for the poster is for him/her to decide after trial. Thinking in real needs rather than preconceived technical routes.
My own workflow has considerably evolved thanks to 3 years of reading on this forum.
