How do I rename events in Photos?

Once I upload photos to my device on the iPad 2 with the camera connection kit, it gives me events with names like 2012-01-06 . I would like to know a simple way to change the name of the event from the iPad, because I don't have a computer I could sync it to.
Thanks!

You can't rename them on the iPad, you can only chose the names of events for photos prior to syncing them from a computer.

  • How to label moments / events in Photos

So - in iPhoto, events could be split, named, and have meaningful titles added to them. How do you achieve this in the new photos app?
    Thanks!

The new Photos application hasn't been released. If you are beta testing 10.10.3, the Developers forum would be a better place to post.

  • How can I rename events?

When I split events, in the "old" iPhoto, I could rename the events as soon as I split them (all in the same screen). Now I have to go back to the main Events screen in order to do it, and that means I have to go hunt for the two events (cause they don't end up anywhere near each other). I have a rather large library of photos, and it was SOOOO much easier to rename the new events when they were all in the same screen after splitting them.
Also, the "Split" icon used to be in the bottom and now there is no icon, you have to go to the top under Events and click "Split Event" or "Create Event". Then see the problem above - you can't rename the events in that window.
It is MUCH slower than previous versions of iPhoto when I try to do anything. Of course, it does look like they FINALLY fixed Faces........
The changes are NOT impressing me!

Be sure to tell Apple about this via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. We need to get everyone reporting these "oversights" (being somewhat gracious here) so they'll know that it is a serious issue.

  • How to burn an "event's" photo contents to a dvd

Have an event with lots of photos.
I'd like to burn the photo contents of that event to a dvd.
    Best way?
    Thx,
    Steve

Select the photos and use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option. Select JPEG as the format, Quality as Maximum or High, Size as full size and check the two boxes to include the keywords and places. Export them to a folder on the Desktop and burn the folder onto a DVD or CD disk. This will just put the current version of the photos on the disk.
If you use the Share ➙ Burn menu option you'll burn a mini library to the disk that can be used by iPhoto at a later date to view and copy the photos back into a library.

  • How do I remove selected events in photo?

How do I remove events in photo that were transfered from my Iphoto on Imac.

Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Uncheck/deselect all of the events that you want to remove
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

I was asking because I was importing photos from my Canon 40D camera. Some photos imported are marker as such by a green checkmark, but others, are imported but are not checked. So when I connect the camera again, the iPad photo app imports them again. When I connect annoteer Canon camera (the S5is), everything import normal.
I use the iPad on vacation only as a backup for the cameras. Later I will import the photos on my iMac.
    Any suggestions?

  • How do I rename photos within events?

I know how to give an event a title but I'm looking for an easy way to rename all the photos within the event so that they, too, have a title corresponding to the event title but each with it's own number added to the end. This helps me for when I create a New Album and drag a copy of an individual photo into the album to identify which event the original photo came from. For example:
    Event Title: 2013.03.01 Drew's 11th Bday
Photo Title for each photo within the event to say: 2013.03.01 Drew's 11th Bday (1); 2013.03.01 Drew's 11th Bday (2) and so on...
As it is now, each photo just has the image number given to it by the program, so that when I drag a copy into a New Album all I see is the image number with no details to help me.
    Can anyone offer suggestions?

The only way to rename the actual file is to export the photo out of the iPhoto Library via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the option  File Name ➙ Use Title.

  • How do i change name on photo event

how do i find the place to rename event names in iphoto

Maybe this question is better in the iPhoto forum.
Just click the events name, and while it is highlighted, just type in a new name.

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • How do I rename a photo in the iphoto folder?

OK, so I know that you can change the name of a photo while in iphoto by simply pressing the "i" button at the bottom left, but that doesn't change the actual name of the file.
And I know that I can do that by going to Share-Export-Use Title and then put it in the same file that the original picture is in.
My question is....if you do that, then you have two of the same pictures in the same folder (one with the name you gave it and one with a name the computer gave it...some IMG_0812.JPG name), so after I've done this, can I delete the original picture with the numbered name so that I only have the picture with the name I gave it to reduce clutter?
Anyone? Anyone? I ask this question because I'm an organized freak and hate when I need to go and attach a photo I need to know when I took the photo (the month and date) and then all I see are numbers for the names.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How do I rename a photo in the iphoto folder?
    You don't.
And I know that I can do that by going to Share-Export-Use Title and then put it in the same file that the original picture is in.
That depends on how you "put" the renamed export into the "same file." You can Import it into your iPhoto library. If you use the Finder or a Save dialog to save directly into the iPhoto Library folder then this photo will not be recognized by the database.
...can I delete the original picture with the numbered name so that I only have the picture with the name I gave it to reduce clutter?
If you imported the renamed Export properly, and now see both versions of the photo in the library (within the iPhoto application), then yes, you can place the first version in the iPhoto Trash, then Empty iPhoto Trash. Absolutely do not do any of this from within the Finder.
I'm an organized freak and hate when I need to go and attach a photo I need to know when I took the photo (the month and date) and then all I see are numbers for the names.
Don't root around inside the iPhoto Library folder to find your photos for attachments or uploading.
Why: iPhoto is a database application, not a file browser. You aren't supposed to go inside the iPhoto Library folder at all. See this from the iPhoto Help, under "About using the iPhoto Library":
"IMPORTANT: There is also an "iPhoto Library" folder located in the Pictures folder in your home folder, outside the iPhoto application. If you move, delete, rename, or otherwise touch files or folders within this folder, you may be unable to see your pictures in the iPhoto application.
"The files within this folder should only be manipulated by a customer care representative."
To access your photos, use iPhoto. They are perfectly organized and easy to find, with all of iPhoto's tools at your service. No need to remember the date you took the picture. When you need to upload or attach your photos, select them in iPhoto and do a Share > Export to a Desktop folder. Attach or upload from that folder, then trash it when you are finished.
If you absolutely want to rename your photos it's best to do this before importing into iPhoto. You can use Image Capture (look in your Applications folder) to upload from your camera to a Desktop folder. Use the Finder to preview and rename the files to your liking. Name the folder the way you want the Film Roll to be named in iPhoto. Import the folder into iPhoto, and then delete the one on your Desktop.
But do learn to keep out of the iPhoto Library folder when you are in the Finder. Tampering inside that folder causes much of the damage that I see people coming here to try to repair. Once your photos are inside the iPhoto library, it's best to use iPhoto to do what you want with them.
    Regards.

In iPhoto '11: Select the photo in the "Faces" stack, open the "Info" panel, click on the face name in the "faces" brick and then on the name below the face to edit the name.

  • Iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  When I deleted some, I found that the event still shows up with a blank frame.  Can I move some photos to an external hard drive but leave the pointer in iphoto?

iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  I would really like to move tsome of the older photos to an external hard drive. (They are backed up in Time Machine, but I like the immediacy of having them available.)  So question 1 -  is it possible to split the iphoto library so that the directory tree points to an external drive in some cases?  And if that doesn't work--I am willing to export and delete some of these photos.  However, an earlier delete left me with events that have a name in the event folder, but no photos.  Question 2 -- How do I properly delete photos so that all references disappear?
    example:

Warning: Time Machine is not an Archiving application. It keeps rolling back ups. That means if you delete something from the source Mac it will eventually be also deleted from Time Machine. How long that takes depends on the amount of disk space TM has. So, remember, backing up in Time Machine is not the same as Archiving.
For the blank thumbnails: This can happen if you try delete too many photos at one go. Experienced users suggest you should delete in batches of 100 or so.
Yes you can split the Library, where some of the Masters are stored locally and some on an external disk, but really, you don't want to do that. iPhoto's file management tools are limited at best, and if the path to the files changes then you could find yourself repairing the links to the files - all of them, one by one.
Better: Have your entire Library on an External Drive.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you want to have a smaller library on your internal disk:
Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
