How do I repair damaged or incomplete apps., How do I repair damaged or incomplete apps.

After 10.7.2 upgrade on my 2009 Macbook Pro, the following apps in my applications folder are "jacked up". Dashboard, Image Capture, Time Machine each have the circle with the line through it. When clicked I get the "You can't open the application *<previously listed>* because it may be damaged or incomplete. Further, When I open utilities folder Disk utility, Console, Network utility, and Migration assistant have the circle with the slash. What on earth is going on?

another option if lion did not properly install from apps store.. on boot up hold down option key .. if there is a recovery partition listed, boot from this by clicking on it. There will be an option to reinstall lion. youmay have to sign in with apple id. If you need to go back to 10.6 first boot from origional install disk and use disk ulity to completely erase the the lion partition first before restoring the drive from your time machine backup.

When I try to open iphono on my macbook pro it says "Can't open the applicaiton because it may be damaged or incompete". How do I repair this?

    1. Back up your iPhoto Library - you should always have a back up anyway.
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    2. Reinstall
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

I am having the exact same problem.  MacForums has been helping me, and I called Apple.  After trying everyone's suggestions, and Apple's, no success.
My App Store app still says "incomplete or damaged."  There is even a circle with a line through it on the icon.  Apple said reinstall my Snow Leopard upgrade disc (not my original Leopard disc) and then run the Combo Update (like your suggestion).  Did not work.  I also updated the software from "Software Update".  Rebooted.
I think this started after I replaced my hard drive with a SSD and moved the hard drive to where the DVD was.  I wonder if the person above who had the same problem also installed a SSD?
Anyway, anymore ideas?  Even Apple is stumped.
(In answer to the other post above, my Quicktime works fine.)

  • Recently did an update, and a restart, now iphoto gives me this error message when I try to open it You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete' how can I 'repair' or replace missing files?? Thanks!!

I have an imac with snow leopard and really wish there was a how to database in the computer for this !!! I still love this computer tho.  Thanks in advance for any help!!

iphoto its pictures are still on your computer under the pictures folder.. it will be one file that says iphoto library. Its a separate file from the actual program.
If you still have the disks that came with your unit they have the ilife applications on them. put the disk in your drive that says mac os x applications dvd. it will auto mount and there should be a folder called bundled software open this and there should be a .pkg file to reinstall the ilife suite which includes imovie iphoto iweb idvd and garageband .  After installing don't forget before runnig the program run software updates to download the any fixes
if you r unit has disks labeled disk one and disk 2.. you need to boot off of disk one and choose install bundled software.
I believe there is a KB article through apple.com/support

  • Put old I  life on new computer now I photo dosn't work it says cant open because it may be damaged or incomplete so all my pictures can not be accesed how do I get back to I photo or take what I installed off with out losing all my pictures?

I got a new Mac and was trying to burn from I movie to get it to a disk but new I mac dose not have I DVD . So I had my old I Life 11 disc with I DVD on it and I installed it, when I did this it did something to my I photo I can not open it at all it has a message that reads ,you can't open the application IPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete . Now I can not get or see any of my photos how do I reverse what I did? can I take that I Life back out and how? with out losing all my pictures? and how do you burn to DVDs now without IDVD?

    Diane,
Your photos are in the iPhoto Library. Almost certainly that is intact, so don't worry.
Go to your Home folder and open the folder called Pictures. What you want is in there, iPhoto Library. Don't do anything there, this is just to reassure yourself.
So it is a matter of getting the iPhoto app to work. Apps are in the Applications folder. Find it and trash it.
    Next download iPhoto:

  • I can't run my dvd app as it says that its damaged / incomplete??

I've just bought a USB Superdrive for my Macbook Pro with Retina Display, and when i put a dvd in, nothing happens. I went through the settings and found that when a dvd is put in, it will ignore it, so i changed it to open the DVD application, however it had a circle with a line through it. When i tried to open the app alone, it told me it couldn't be opened as it was either damaged or incomplete. Is there a way i can re-install it?
    Thanks!

Reinstall OS X to fix the problem:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
