How do I replace my HDD in a Pavilion dv7-1113eo

The old WD2500BEVS HDD is totally dead except for the HP-RECOVERY partition. A have a new Seagate Momentus 5400.6 that I want to install instead.
I have tried formatting NTFS in one partition. I have tried formatting NTFS in two partitions and copy the old HP_RECOVERY to the new partition. All with no luck. The HP simply cannot detect at drive to install Windows Vista DVD to.
I use a Mac with Windows7 installed to partition and format the drive via a USB external drive.
How do I partition and format the new drive so I can install Vista from a DVD?
Should it have Vista installed before installing it? How do I do that?
How do move the RECOVERY partion to the new drive and let HP perform a Factory Install?
Thanks

oh, and the main question is "why install windows on a mac at all"
Cheers

  • How to clone my HDD on my Pavilion dv7

I would like to clone my Pavilion dv7 HDD.  It has a WD 1T HDD.  I purchased another WD 1T HDD from bestbuy and a StarTech HDD Duplicator.  It fails during inital Cloning.  Called StarTech and they said I need to find out from HP if there was a HPA (Hidden Protected Area) on my drive.  Can anyone tell me if there is a HPA on my HP HDD?
I really want to have a full backup of my drive just in case.  My lap top is two years old and I use it a lot.

Hello themanafreak.  I understand your notebook is getting warm during use.
First, you should ensure that the cooling system of the notebook is free of dust and debris but cleaning the notebook as per these instructions.
Also, another good step to take is to ensure that you have the latest version of the BIOS installed.  I can locate the latest BIOS for you if you provide me with your product number.  This document can show you where the product number is located. Finally, I do not know of a way to increase the fan's speed itself but you can set the fan to "always be on" by doing the following.
Reboot your computer and press F10 until the BIOS loads.Navigate to the System Configuration section.Ensure that "Fan Always On" is set to enabled.Navigate to the Exit section and save your changes.
    Have a great day!

  • How to Replace the arrow key on Pavilion dv7

So, the left arrow key on the laptops keyboard popped out. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv7-6195us.
I'm living in Croatia, Europe, but I have found this site , and I want to order the key.
But the problem is I don't see my laptop model, specified above. Can you guys give me the exact link which key should I buy?
And if you know any better site for ordering the keyboard keys, please let me know.
    Regards,

    Hi,
You should buy a new keyboard. I don't think that you can replace a key on a laptop keyboard (it won't last too long). I have a manual with all the part numbers so I guess that you will need the same keyboard as in Slovenia, because I can't find a dedicated keyboard for Croatia. The Czech rep and Slovakia use the same keyboard as well.
The part number for a black Slovenia keyboard is: 639396-BA1
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf
It looks like the laptop is from the US so the part number for the original keyboard is: 639396-001
I guess that you will have to stick with the US keyboard.

  • How to fix "unmountable_boot_volume" blue screen error on Pavilion dv7 2185 dx notebook

I turned on the laptop and it would only show the blue screen for a second and then cut off. I tried F7, F8, F9, F10, F11 and nothing seems to work. I tried starting it in the last good sector. I tried fixing it and nothing seems to work.
The blue screen also says - disable memory option (caching/shadowing).
I bought this latptop with the original Vista OS but I later received the Window 7 upgrade through HP. This laptop did not come with recovery CDs.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem? Please help me

  • What is the maximum HDD size for Pavilion DV7-3105ea and can I add a 2nd HDD.

    Hi,
Please could someone advise me as to the maximum HDD size that can be installed in a Pavilion DV7-3105ea.
Additionally is it possible to add a second HDD.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    jB

There is no theoretical limit the only limit is what is sold on the market. Any correctly sized SATA laptop drive will work. They do now make 1TB drives that will fit and yes there is a secondary hard drive bay so theoretically you could have 2TB of storage. You are going to need 1 or 2 drives like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152291
The drive has to be 9.5 mm in height some 1TB laptop drives are too thick.
You also likely need a second hard drive caddy/connector like this:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=222&zenid=2a83d0d222d80c6...
And here is a link to the Manual showing how to get to the hard drive bay:
    Drive Manual
Check your system to see if a secondary drive caddy/connector is there but it likely is not and you need the part linked above. Good luck.

  • Upgrade the two Hdds of HP Pavilion dv7-3190ev

I want to upgrade the two HDDs of 500GB in my HP Pavilion dv7-3190ev.  What the maximum size of GBs that i can replace them , without any problem with power supply or any other problem in operation?...

    Hi,
At this stage, 1TB is a good number for laptop HDD's. You may also need to update the BIOS. My dv7 actually has 2 HDD's (2 x 1TB).
    Regards.

  • Trying to replace the Keyboard for HP Pavilion DV7-3180us. Need part number & compatible parts.

I have a HP Pavilion DV7-3180us laptop.  I have to replace the Keyboard because I have about 7 missing keys.  I have been looking for a good replacement but I want to ensure that I am getting the lowest price and the correct part.   I don't have a lot to spend on it but it looks cheaper or about the same price, to buy the whole keyboard rather than the seperate keys.  Is this keyboard compatible with other keyboards?  This would give me more options to find one in stock and a reasonable price.  Also, need a new AC Adapter charger.  I have seen it listed with 3 different watts 65w, 90w, & 120w.  Is this accurate?  I find the parts listed under my computer manufacturer number but I am skeptical that it is correct.  I have seen some reviews where people say that the keyboard replacement listed for DV7-3180us did not fit.  Anyone with any help to make this easier I would very much appreciate.  Thanks.

    Hi:
My advice is to read chapter 3 of the dv7 service manual below, and cross reference the part numbers or only buy the parts you need with the HP part numbers.

  • Can I replace the HDD in my Pavilion Dv7t-2000?

Ok so I bought my laptop a little over a year ago with a 320gb HDD. Now I know that's a good bit of space but I've nearly maxed it out a few time so I want to upgrade it.  I already have the new hard drive, 750gb and have it set up but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the old hard drive out.  I easily found where it is but I can't figure out how to lift it out.  Can I just push the data cable off and then it can rotate up?  If asked I can post a picture of it but for now I just want to know if any one has any guesses.

This is the official HP Services Media Library for your dv7-2000 Intel system.
Select the "Primary hard disk drive ( CSR) " at the left-handed side menu, it should pop up both video and text to guide you to remove the hard drive.
However, I am not sure the Operating System can support the hard drive size upto 750GB or not.
    Anyway, good luck.

  • How to download a windows installation disc for pavilion dv7-6b78us

After F11, try to restore system, my screen asking for Windows installation discs. I don't have. How could I download one. cant find it from HP support yet.

    Hi:
You cannot download recovery disks. They must be purchased from HP.
You can read the info at the link below on how to do that.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07143&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
You can however, download and make your own plain Windows 7 installation DVD if you can read the 25 character Windows 7 product key on the bottom of your PC.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • How to add a 2nd hard drive to HP Pavilion DV7!

How to add a 2nd hard drive to HP Pavilion DV7-3165DX, product # WA794UA or WA794UAR.
    (1) Order HDD, hard drive, hardware kit. HDD hardware kit includes mounting rails, static shield, screws, rubber isolators, and SATA to motherboard cable. Check your model & Product # for compatibility.
         HP Parts HDD hardware kit 517639-001 for DV7-3165DX product# WA794UA and WA794UAR.
    (2) Consult Drives - Windows 7 PDF, table of contents, 7 Replacing a drive in the secondary hard drive bay. This will show you how to install a 2nd HDD in a HP DV7.
          Drives - Windows 7 PDF
    (3) In Windows 7 select Computer, Select the HDD installed, Format (if not already formatted).
    (4) If HDD does not show up in Windows 7 under Computer, go to Start (Menu), Search Programs and Files, enter "Computer Management", select Storage, Disk Management (Local), look for the Bay 2 HDD (should show up as Disc 1, Bay 1 HDD should show as Disc 0), Format the 2nd HDD (The one you just installed).
Update: I have the 2nd HDD (WD 1TB) installed, Windows now recognises it after completing the steps I mentioned in step 4, Format with default allocation NTFS 931.51GB free, 118MB used for formatting. Format with default allocation exFAT 931.51GB free, 1MB used for formatting. I selected NTFS format to reduce file fragmenting.

When i added my 2nd HDD I was ready to get it ordered and shipped, so it would arrive before I arrived home. I also was not sure if it would be offered anywhere else and be 100% compatible. The quality of the factory HP part is good. Since then I found a cheeper source. Newmodeus DV7-3xxx Hard Drive Caddy $27.95 +tax +shipping. Not sure if the quality is the same. If this helps you, post your results and kudos.

  • Pavilion DV7-6030EW HDD Cable Secondary

    Hi guys!
I have a problem with finding part number of cable for secondary HDD to my Pavilion DV7-6030ew. I've been googling for a while with no clear results. I bought SSD drive to my NB but now I can't plug it with HDD simultaneously. That cable should by circa 10cm long to reach the secondary HDD brackett. Any ideas?

Yes the best place to get it is newmodeus.com. I have been buying hard drive caddies/cables from them for over ten (10) years and when I have suggested newmodeus here, if I hear back it from the Forum User they are all happy I made the referral:
