How do I replace my superdrive in my late 2007 macbook pro 15 inch?

My macbook pro doesn't read or burn CD's, doesn't burn DVD's. It's a 5 year old computer and I'm sure it's time to replace the superdrive in it. Is there a step by step procedure in doing this that I can do myself? I went into an apple store and was told the optical drive needs to be replaced. I'm assuming superdrive and optical drive are the same thing?....

After you visit either PowerBookMedic.com or IFixIt.com to purchase a replacement that will surely surpass the original in terms of speed and reliability in burning, amble over to their DIY section where you will find either pictorial or video procedures.
Yes, superdrive == optical drive.

  • Are there genuine replacements available for battery in late 2008 macbook pro?

are there genuine replacement batteries available for a late 2008 macbook pro?

Probably your only hope, based on your description, is a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Note that you can contact Apple and ship your MBP to them for evaluation and possible repair.  That may be easier than a trip to the Apple store.
    Ciao.

  • How do I replace the main SATA HD in my macbook pro 9,2 with an SSD?

Can anyone direct me to photo directions for replacing the main HD in my macbookpro? Do I need a caddy to install a 2.5 SSD? I am not trying to replace the superdrive, so those caddies are not what I am looking for. CAn I just install the SSD in the same space left for the main SATA drive without using any adapter?

You can install the SSD in the same bay as your current HDD. You don't need a caddy.
Here's a link on iFixit.com with pictures of how to replace the HDD on a Macbook Pro. Same instructions apply when replacing the HDD with an SSD. I recently replaced a 320GB HDD in my early-2011 13" MBP with an SSD. Very easy to do.

  • Late 2007 MacBook Pro is struggling to run, many apps such as iTunes are freezing.  I am thinking it is time to do a full system restore to factory, then data restore but do not know how.

Mac is running latest OSX Mavericks software.... But lately, my Mac is crashing repeatedly when I attempt to use iTunes or iBooks, both also the latest releases.  Syncing with either iTunes or iBooks is nearly impossible.  No disk repair or verification errors.  I am thinking that there is some rogue software glitch that has me.  I am thinking that I need to do a factory reset followed by a time machine data recovery.  I have never done this, does anyone know how?  Other ideas, that are not so dramatic?

That link is great... obviously found some issues!  Thank You.
I am thinking I might try using the "Support" links next to the fails next?

  • How do I get usb superdrive to work with new macbook pro. superdrive rejects cd ?

Just purchased new system. (never had an apple before) so I am all at sea. followed the instructions to uodate the system. whenI inserted a cd with program to be installes foe a Mac, it was ejected. inserted a cd with 'jpeg files only on it it too was rejected, with no message. Am I missing anything?

I suggest you return the Apple Superdrive and buy any other brand external DVD drive that connects by USB port.
Any brand will work with your Mac, cost less and work better.

  • What can i upgrade to and how? late 2007 macbook pro

I am running tiger 10.4.11 can i go straight to mountain lion or do i need to install all 4 in between leopard snow leopard lion and then mountain lion i have a 13" late 2007 macbook pro thank you

Yes. Snow Leopard requires at least 1GB of RAM; the Mac App Store will check compatibility before allowing Mountain Lion to be purchased.

  • How come Power Nap doesn't work on late 2011 MacBook Pros?

I have a late MacBook Pro, recently bought Mountian Lion hoping I would get Power Nap, but unfortunatly not, could someone be able to explain why Power Nap is only for MacBook Pro Retina and MacBook Air please?
    Much appreciated.

Because they have the 'official' Apple flash storage. Other flash storage devices on stock 2011 MBPs - such as SSDs - don't have the necessary firmware that Apple-sanctioned flash storage devices have.
It was a bummer for me, too. I've a SSD and was hoping to use Power Nap on my late 2011. But I have a Crucial m4, not an Apple device.

  • How can I optimize the performance of my late 2008 macbook pro

I recenly moved out in the sticks and the best I can do for I.P. is satelite 10 mpbs and it seems so slow.

Pasting into a blank project is not a nice option because it requires reconfiguring all of the buttons. They all reset to "Continue" when I do that. I would probably need to re-enter the Advanced Actions as well. There's no reason to think that would speed up the application.
You can see the content in the link up top: http://www.anacore.com/MediaStationSalesTool/. There are mostly slides with video and slides with 1280x720 images. Click the grey buttons to navigate and use the bottom right buttons to return home. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

  • Replacement hard drive for late 2008 Macbook Pro

I need to replace my drive in a late 2008 Macbook Pro 15".  I can access the battery and what looks like the hard drive from the underside, if this helps.  Would this be a good replacement choice?
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279
Finding exact specs for the drive has been tricky, or maybe I just need to have the physical size verified.  What I know/have found is:
5400rpm       (would a 7200rpm improve performance, or am I limited by hardware?)
SATA II        (does this matter tese days?)
    2.5" drive   (needs verification)
open drive?  (do I need this or not?)
Any other options or advice?  I'd like to spend a small amount since this is an older computer and won't be around a whole lot longer anyway.  Thanks in advance!

The link you posted above is for a WD drive,....dont get it.   WD drives (some) have SMS sensor coflicts with Mac, and the consumer grade western digital HD are the worst you can buy.
Same as used by Apple below, best option, cheapest price.

I will need to clone the current drive before it fails; is there an article in this forum on that?
Easy, 3 clicks and sit back and let Superduper CLONE your HD.....about 40 mins average.
Superduper is free and most of the pros use it (or carbon copy cloner)

  • I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to Mavericks OS.  The screen died and it's not worth replacing.  How do I remove the hard drive and use a drive sled to access info I need?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to the Mavericks OS.  The screen died and I took it into an Apple store and was told replacing the screen and the hardware to repair everything would cost almost as much as buying a new laptop or a cheaper model.  I was told that I can use a drive sled to access data I need on my hard drive. How do I remove my hard drive and use a drive sled to get to the information I need?  What makes matters more complicated is I need to update my iPhone and my iTunes/App store purchases.  How can I accomplish this?
My wife has a late 2008 Macbook Pro as well, which I am assuming I need to run my hard drive.  Is there a way to just access just my hard drive without interfering with hers?
I know this is lengthy.  Thanks to whoever looks at this and offers advice/instruction.

the device you need is an External enclosure for a 2.5" (laptop form factor) SATA drive.
A USB-interface enclosure will be slow, but is adequate for this task and for re-purposing as a backup drive later.  A firewire-interface drive would be faster, but is harder to find, more expensive, and faster than needed for this purpose.
The drive will mount as an "extra" drive on your wife's Macbook, and you can drag and drop whatever you wish. You could create a separate Account for yourself on her computer, and use Migration Assistant or just copy your stuff over to the new account. Then it would not interfere with her files.

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.
