How do i reset iTunes incremental backup?

I used iTunes Backup to incrementally backup my iTunes library. But when I check the DVDs, neither iTunes nor the system recognize the DVDs; they don't mount. For whatever reason they're all coasters. The Apple tech guys think it might be media incompatibility.
Cool. I'll start over. I test an other brand of DVD; they seem to work. I'm ready to go. But since I've been using the incremental backup option iTunes now thinks that everything is backed up.
How do I reset the iTunes backup application?
Quad 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Go into Edit > Preferences, and on the Devices make sure that 'Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically' is not ticked - if it is ticked then untick it and see if the 'open iTunes ..' becomes unprotected.

How do u reset my restore backup password?

    Hello Rissey,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The encrypted backup password stays unless you want to restore the device as new.
    iOS: Troubleshooting encrypted backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
You need the backup password to disable backup encryption or to restore from an encrypted backup.
You can keep trying to restore the device from backup until you remember the password. If you're having trouble, try:
    Leaving the password field blank
    Your Apple ID password
Your computer account password, if you have one
Email passwords you may have used
    Your Wi-Fi network password
Website passwords you may have used
A password for hard-disk encryption software, if you use it
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • HT204406 How can I reset iTunes Match to my original version, before it was corrupted by iMatch?

How can I reset iTunes Match to my original version, before it was corrupted by iTunes Match? I have a extensive library I developed over years and it has been totally destroyed by iTunes Match and I have not been able to rectify it, no matter what.

Hallo Jim, thanks for the response.
I have a library of around 9000 songs, about 40 playlists and all albums sorted etc. It was originally kept on a Windows 7 based system. After linking the entire library on iTunes Matc (which took forever), all was fine for a while, then suddenly double playlists start apearing, songs disapeard form playlists and I started to loose all my settings!
In a last attempt to solve my problems, I purchased a Mac to use at home with all the other Apple devices. (Appletv, iPads etc) Unfortunatelly despite numerous attempts I have not been able to copy the library over to the MAC, as I keep on loosing half of the data. I tried iTunes Match, but this made things even worse.
Reading several forums and tutorials and trying everything, simply helped me to recover an older version of the Library by copieng a pervious version and replacing the current .itl file. (on the Windows based system)
So, I now have a fairly updated and complete iTunes Library on my Windows based computer at work, but all my other devices and MAC at home have skeleton versions of the original Library.
I have disabled iTune Match on all sytems as well as Genius , as this seams to be escalating the problems by creating multiple versions of my existing playlists, but none that are complete.
If you have advice for me, or can refer me to a detailed and accurate tutorial, I will be very grateful.
    Thank you,
    Hennie

  • How to restore from an incremental backup when new datafiles are added

    1) Source - We have a base backup and then take differential (LEVEL 1) backups every day. Due to business needs, new datafiles keep added daily in the database. So you will see an incremental backup having new datafiles that got created after the LEVEL 0 backup.
    2) Destination - We want to restore this database in the destination host "continiously".
    a) I first restored from the BASE FULL - LEVEL 0 . This was successful (restored and recovered, but did not OPEN the database)
    b) But restoring a LEVEL 1 now on top of the already restored LEVEL 0 makes the restore start all over again if there are NEW DATAFILES added after the LEVEL 0 backup in the source database.
This is not a problem when no new datafiles are added/modified between the "BASE" and "LEVEL 1" backup.
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?
    -Thanks
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?The recovery process after the restore should add the newly created datafiles on the destination host.
Can you check by querying v$datafile in mount mode and post the output?
    Regards,
    Tycho

  • ITUNES  Incremental Backup to DVD

When doing an incremental backup, I thought you can use your original backup DVD RW and it will add to it. When I tell ITUNES to do this using the smart playlist ITUNES tell me to insert a blank disk. Does it not append to the original backup DVD RW?
      Windows XP Pro

    Hi, Mark.
The incremental back-up continues from where you left off but doesn't change the fact that once a burning session ends - whether on a DVD-R or a DVD-RW - the disc is closed and iTunes cannot burn anything else to that disc.
In the case of a DVD-RW you can erase the disc (with Windows Explorer) and start over again but that would mean you'd have to do a complete - not incremental - back-up on the now empty disc.

  • ITunes incremental backup

    Hi,
I have used the iTunes backup to disc feature to backup my entire library. My whole music library is now secured on 17 DVD. From now, I hope to rely on the incremental backup feature to backup any added songs since this first backup.
Here is my question; does someone know where iTunes is actually storing information about the incremental backup, i.e. which songs have already been backed up and which are not?
I'm asking this question because I had reinstalled an OS. And I do not want to lose my ability to perform incremental backup. Is it store within the library files themself or is it store in some other files?
    Thanks!

    hi!
    thanks for inputs.
PT wrote: "I use an external drive to do backups of my library..."
my library is actually standing on an external drive and is around 90Go. buying another external drive is really not the good solution for me. so, I want to have a periodic backup on DVD.
Mike wrote: "This way all I need to do is crate a new PL of the tunes added since the last b/u and burn only that PL."
that's a really good idea. in fact, you just made me realize the existence of the "Date added" field. this option is a good alternative to the incremental features. ...or maybe its actually the way that the iTunes incremental features is actually working.
tough, as you, I'm expecting the iTunes incremental features to be within the library files. I was just seeking for a confirmation of this and avoid having to burn the first 17DVD of already made with the backup feature.

  • How do I make an incremental backup of my PE11 catalog?

I performaned a backup on 12/6/2013,  The backup folder name is "13-1206 PE 11 Backup".  It is located on an external 1TB drive.
Today I added a number of files to the catalog.  Now I am trying to do an incremental backup.
My 1st step is to ogen the organizer and choose  File > Backup
2nd is to select Continue to not search for disconnected files,  (these have been deleted)
3rd is to chose incremental and click [NEXT],  the calculating total media window runs
4th In the Destination settings Window I enter 13-1206 PE in the Name box  (this is the character limit)
    5th In the Backup Path I browse to G:\13-1206 PE 11 Backup\
6th in Previous Bachup file box I browse to G:\13-1206 PE 11 Backup and open Backup.tly
I get a message that says "You may not specify the location of the previous backup as the new backup location
    Where am I going wrong??

Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder for December 9
    Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disc or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another  full backup and delete any earlier backups.

  • How do I force Itunes to backup from specific backup folder?

Dear all, Thank you for reading.
I have searched high and low for an answer to my question but no dice. Please excuse me if some of you have answered this question numerous times.
On 3/5/13 I was up to my neck in inpatience with the email function on my Iphone. It wasnt't receiving emails as my Ipad was so I decided to backup the phone and restore it hoping that would fix the problem. I plugged my iphone 4S in and waited for it to complete backup and sync then I restored the phone. Somewhere right before the phone finished restoring from the previous back up, Itunes informed me I could not save the back up and returned the phone to me as a regular new phone out of the box with factory settings. I tried again to restore from that old back up but somehow it seems that when the phone was restored to factory settings, it saved those settings and erased my old. The only other back up file showing up on itunes is a back up from 6 months ago. This is completely heartbreaking.
Through my research I found the folder containing the backup folders and found a folder marked as a backup from several days before the failed restore. I want to try to back up from this folder but Itunes is not recognizing it. Is there anyway I can force itunes to back up from this folder? I have tried uninstalling itunes and installing it back but it still only recognizes the back up from 6 months ago. Please if anyone knows the answer please inform me! Ive been walking around with this faint feeling of pain as if I lost a whole bunch of money and it almost is as there was so much research, pictures from around the world ive taken, voice memos etc that was a chronicle of my time and like the saying goes "time is money".
    Best regards
    Danny

If were talking about iTunes Store purchases then...
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.
As given in my previous post there is a way to prepare an iTunes library for moving between systems such that it won't break the links between the library and the media. It sounds as if your library wasn't in quite the right shape to be moved successfully. Options are to go back and do it again, or you could repair what you have with my script FindTracks. For details on how it works see this thread.

  • Any updates on resetting itunes computer backup password?

Are there any updates available on how to go about resetting the itunes backup password? I never set it to begin with so I have not idea what it is

I am running LR in 2 PCs. a Sony VAIO laptop with Intel solo processor, 2 GB RAM. and a desktop with XP SP2 with 2 GB RAM. all the pics in a NAS device and a DB replicated in both PCs.
No issues with Vista, other than most of the drivers for my peripherals are late. the driver for the EPSON 2200 was just released 2 weeks ago, the driver for the 32 bits CF PCMCIA reader is not ready so I used a workaround, etc. It will probably take one year before all the drivers and applications work well with Vista. LR works perfect for me on both OS and I am managing 10K pics so far.
One tip: LR was rather slow on Vista... until I discovered that Norton Firewall was sucking up 30% of CPU power!. I turned Norton Firewall off ad Visa firewall on and LR is back running as fast as in the XP machine (where I also have Norton)... I guess Norton will release some fixes soon :-) So check out if the firewall (and the side bar) are consuming processing speed on your Vista machine.
LR needs improvements and I am sure those improvements will come with time. But it works with Vista and I am super happy with LR today as I improved the speed of my workflow at least 5x versus Photoshop CS, as I mostly do just WB, exposure, metadata and cropping... when one works on stock photography and events photos, if you do more than that it is not worth it... and probably one needs to learn how to take better pics, not how to fix the pics with PS magic :-)

  • HT1382 How do you restore iTunes v10 backup (on DVDs) onto iTunes v11?

On Windows XP, I backed up my iTunes v10.1 library to DVDs, then did a fresh install of WinXP and the current iTunes v11.1.  I authorized the new iTunes and inserted disc 1 of my iTunes backup, but I get no dialog to restore (tried the last disc in the backup set as well), nor can I find any restore options in the menus.  I also have a full system backup from old WinXP system, if needed.  Any help would be appreciated.  One of the reasons I instigated this is because I could not upgrade IOS v4.3 on my 4th gen iPod Touch because I couldn't upgrade iTunes on my WinXP system (would get server not found error).

You should delete the current iTunes folder in <User's Music> before restoring the backup into that folder. There is a hidden preference file that controls folder structure that might otherwise be wrong, and the new library would have created some stub folders for cached artwork which would be redundant.
if iTunes won't update then tearing out all Apple components, rebooting, and reinstalling usually works. If there are still problems there is an MSI cleanup tool that sometimes helps.
Going forward see this backup tip.

  • How to reset iTunes Match

    Hi everyone,
Just a new thread to share with you how I did reset iTunes Match, this can be useful in some cases, like mine was.
This allow you to sync again your entire iTunes library with iTunes Match like if it was the very first time you activate iTunes Match.
    So, here it is :
    1. Close iTunes
    2. Rename your iTunes folder into "iTunes2" instead of "iTunes"
    3. Open iTunes, it will create a brand new "iTunes" folder with a brand new iTunes library (.itl file). Your localiTunes library should be empty.
    4. Activate iTunes Match, let sync. It will show you all your previously synced tracks available to download.
    5. Delete all these tracks from iCloud (select all > delete > yes when asked)
    6. Wait a few minutes to half an hour
    7. Update / Sync iTunes Match again, it should finally show you that 0 music is synced with iTunes Match, which is what we wanted ! If still not "0 music", wait more and update iTunes Match again.
    8. Close iTunes
    9. Delete the new "iTunes" folder
    10. Rename your old "iTunes2" folder into "iTunes"
    11. Open iTunes, you should see your iTunes library intact.
    12. Activate iTunes Match, let sync as long as needed (in my case I let sync all night long, it was all done the next morning. I have 8400 tracks).
    13. All done !!!

I have a quick question about this solution.  I have done this, created a new library, but when I enabled iTunes Match it gave me the same problems I have been having.
Quick historical rundown of my situation:  Had match for a year but did not renew.  Decided I wanted to renew about six months later.  Did so, and it jacked up my library like nobodies business.  More than 50% of my library was mislabeled.  Click on a Beatles song, you get P!nk, click on an Adele song, you get Jesus Christ Superstar.  (And don't even get me started on the album covers.  This added another layer of fun.  Click on a Maroon 5 song, a Marilyn Manson song plays while the cover of Bea Arthur on Broadway is displayed.)  Then you would click on a song every now and again and it would disappear and another song from another spot in the library would start playing.  My iTunes was dropping acid is basically what I'm getting at.
So I did some research and finally figured out I should try and nuke it.  Move the library, start a new one, re download purchases, the whole tamale.  This worked....until I turned on Match again.  At this point my library is just purchased music. (The CD stuff is sitting elsewhere waiting to be added manually.  I'm not taking any chances here.) I fire up Match, purchased songs disappear (despite me just having them there and playing them just moment before) and it's like my iTunes fell off the wagon and is getting high in the back room again.  Am I missing something?  I haven't tried the wait and see option.  (Nuking the library, downloading purchases, then patiently waiting a half and hour or so staring at my computer  questioning my life choices, THEN turning on Match.)  Would that help?  (Truth be told I'm doing that now, waiting, so chances are I'll have my answer to THAT particular question before you fine folks can chime in.  But don't let that stop you, as I'm sure there are others who may be suffering from drug addled iTunes as well that may need the answer just as much as I do.)
Anyway, sorry for the Dickensian length.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
