How do I reset my iPhone 4(s) without the passcode?

The Slide to Unlock pad isn't working and I can't get on, so I want to restore my entire phone, keeping in mind that I cannot unlock it.
People tell me to hold the home button and "recovery mode" will come up (whilst connected to my PC), but it isn't coming onto my because I have Siri. Help please?
I am looking for a way to use PC version of iTunes, and like... An option to restore the whole iPhone. (I can NOT use recovery mode.)

Recently I've been having problems with my roommates watching me enter my password which forced me to change it periodically.
Only now I can't remember what I changed it to most recently and restoring it to factory settings isn't really an option considering the volume of the content on the device.
I've been without access to my phone for the past week and it's getting almost aggravating having to call and talk to some lady about the issue I'm having, having her sound very empathetic and saying they could "assist me in resolving this today", only to have her say that I'd need to pay $30 just to have her tell me a few words.
I don't have $30 right now and I think it's beyond stupid that they're 'unable to help' me because of this.
In the Backups section of the Apple site I read:
" If you protect your iPhone or iPod touch with a passcode, you will be prompted to enter the passcode when you connect to iTunes. Once you successfully enter the passcode, iTunes will recognize that device as authorized and you will not need your passcode to back up or sync (Which I've done). When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode.) iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups. "
I've just tried restoring from a backup I created last week but my password is still enabled and I'm still unable to remember what I changed it to.
I'm not sure if I misunderstood the bolded section but I was under the impression that restoring it from iOS 4 or later would remove/reset my current password and allow me to set a new one. That hasn't been the case.
I'm not really sure where to go from here, so any and all help is appreciated.

Settings, general, reset, erase all contenet and settings, then you will restore from icloud.

You can wipe the device without updating:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
I would be remiss not to mention that iOS 7.0.6 patches a security flaw.

If you forgot your iPhone passcode you can bypass the lock screen completely and reset the passcode by using iPhone recovery mode.
