How do I reset my ipod from my computer because it is locked for 42 years !?

My ipod says it is locked for 42 years. I can't reset it on my actual ipod because it's locked and I don't know how to do it via my computer. Technology isn't my forte ! I need simple instructions and apple is exactly helping with the situation because it seems no one else has has this issue.

Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
   1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
   2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
              * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
  3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
  5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
  6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • How do I delete an Ipod from my computer

I need to delete an existing ipod from my computer so that I may install a new ipod on my computer so as to use sync my existing library.  Can anyone help?

No need to.  Simply connect the new iPod and start syncing it as you did the old one.  There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account.

how do I transfer my ipod data from one computer to another

You just need to home share between both computers. Then select all the songs and click import on to the new computer. If you have a playlist, then you will need to either recreate the playlist on to the new computer or you can copy the itunes library.itl, the .itl file might have a different name but that is the file that has all of your library playlists. I am not sure if this will fix your problem but that is what I did and it worked for me hope that helps.

    5. How to Recover Forgotten iPhone Restrictions Passcode | The iPhone and iPad
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the
Back Up option. If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary
              to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore or have forgotten your restrictions passcode, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.
If the above doesn't work or you see the screen image showing you need to connect to iTunes:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Note: If you see the screen pictured below,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • HT1420 How can I deauthorise an ipod from a computer that I no longer have?

I have bought my 3 kids ipod touches for christmas about 5 years ago and they lost them. So i went to Apple and had them replaced and now I can not authorize the new ones because of the old ones.

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I feel like I lost my iPod, or someone stole it. I don't want to reset the iPod from my computer, there is some important stuff on there that is personal. But, my mom insists it is in the house. Can apple help located it in any way?

I know that you can't track an iPod if the battery is dead, I already tried. The attempt was futile. And I am losing my laptop in 3 days, I need to find it before then. Someone, please help. And don't just say no, cause that is stupid. But please, someone has to help me. I've pretty much given up hope. I've looked practically everywhere for it.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

I have an iPod touch which has reached it's limit on the number of computers it can be authorised to. Unfortunately two of the computers are broken beyond repair. How do I unauthorise a device when I cant access the computer?

an iDevice does not count against the five computer limit - only computers do.
you can use the deauthorize all option, then reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.

my daughter locked herself from her ipod with a passcode she forgot ?  how do we reset the ipod?

    From another post by Philly_phan:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • HT2731 my oldest daughter recently bought a new ipod touch and gave her old one to her brother.  I need to know how to unlink the old ipod from her account without losing all the music and games on it.  He would like to have his own account.

My oldest daughter recently bought a new ipod touch and gave her old one to her brother.  How do I unlink his ipod from her account and set up his own without losing the music and apps already on it?

Connect it to his iTunes library and set it up as a new device.  You should be prompted to Erase and Sync the iPod if his iTunes library is separate from hers.
Or head to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content and Settings.
