How do I resize large batches of photos to 640x480 and 97KB?

Greetings, All,
I need to learn  how to resize large batches of photos in my iPhoto library, and limit them to 640x480, and a file size of just 97KB.  Can't seem to figure out how to do it in iPhoto, and am thinking about giving Aperture a try, though the reviews of that app are very mixed, to say the least.  Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.  Thanks, very much, and God Bless!
Every Good Wish,
Doc

First the photos need ot be to be a 4:3 ratio - this is the standard ratio for point and shoot cameras - then select the photos in iPhoto and export using a custo size setting with a maximum dimension of 640 - you will have to experiment with the quality setting to assure a file size of no greater that 97KB

How can I send a group of photos, export them, zip them ( or condense them) and then send a folder to another person?
    Instead of sending 15 emails?

1 - select the photos in iPhoto and click "e-mail"
Or 2 - select the photos and export them to a folder (file menu Export) and right click (control click) on the folder and select compress [folder name] and then attach that folder to an e-mail

  • How do I delete large numbers of photos from library and hard drive without clicking on each one individually?

For instance by dragging across them like you would do to move a block of type. Or any other way. I'm editing about 5,000 images.

The Short answer is the Same Way you select multiple files on the computer system of your choice. Windows would be to click on the first image then hold down the Shift key and select the last image or if they don't run concurrently select the first, hold down the Ctrl key and click the individual files. Once that is don't hit the Delete key and select whether to delete from the just the catalog or Remove from Disk.
On Mac it is the same except the hold down key for selecting non concurrent images and there really isn't a Delete key on a Mac. IIRC you hold down the shift or command key and hit the Backspace key which is labeled Delete.

  • How do I delete entire batch of photos, except those in an album?

I'm in the midst of taking large batches of photos. For example, I import a batch of 500 images into iPhoto from my camera. From that batch, I only want to keep 10 photos which are randomly located thruout the batch. I then want to delete the remaining 490.
I select the 10 photos I want to keep and place them into an album. Then I'm stumped! If I trash the whole batch, I will also be trashing those images I just selected to keep in the album.
How do I select and delete only those 490 images which I do not want to keep? Surely there is a better way to do this short of painstakingly deselecting the 10 keepers by their file number.
    Thanks for any help.

You can do this with a Smart Album that has two conditions.
    File -> New Smart Album
Set it to Match All the conditions
    Then
Event -> Contains -> The Name of the Event
    +
Album -> is not -> Any
This will find all the photos in that Event that are not in an Album
Then in the Smart Album Select All and go SHift-Command-Delete to move them to the trash.

  • Memory consumption issues (when doing large batches of photos)

I have a user who reports my plugin consumes memory until Lr/System is no longer operable, when doing large batches of photos.
I have this type of problem too from time to time, but not always, and in the most recent case, *not* for the same operation my client is complaining about.
Begs the question: is there a way to control whether excessive memory is used, or force it to be released, when doing an operation upon large batches of photos.
Note: the operation is already concluding catalog transactions every 1000 photos (exits with-write function, and re-enters). My client reports Lr/System slowdown at about 4000 photos. He is running Lr3, Windows OS - system details not yet known.
    Rob

    Hey Rob
Have you already tried John R. Ellis idea of reducing the transaction size? I remember from another project we had to limit the transaction size on a SQLite based database due to memory problems.
Maybe you are facing a different problem - not sure how efficient LUAs garbage collection is and your code causes some kind of memory leaks somewhere.

  • When ordering large batch of photos - "transferring" seemed slow. I hit cancel. Did I lose my order? When I try to "buy photos" again it says "connecting" but doesn't seem to connect...

When I tried to order large batch of photos in iPhoto - it seemed to get stuck halfway through. I hit "cancel". When I tried to "buy" photos again... it never seemed to connect. Did I lose my order? Is it half-uploaded somewhere and I need to "resume" upload? Or do I need to start all over again with the order?

You might want to download something called an undelete utility. These can find files and recover them even after they appear to have been lost. There are some undelete utility programs that are free. Look at tucows.com
Also, it appears that you have POSSIBLY overwritten the actual files, which you moved manually, with I don't know what, which you moved in PSE's folder location view.
Next, in the future ... NEVER (that's: don't even think about it) move your photos in Windows. NEVER. NEVER. Not ever. Not once. This always (that's ALWAYS, as in 100% of the time) causes problems and usually makes things difficult to fix.
Lastly ... make regular backups! I must say this in the forums about seventy bazillion times a month. Make regular backups! Regular depends on how often you take photographs and edit them. Since my photographic activity usually happens on the weekends, I make backups every Sunday night. You may need a different schedule, depending on your activity level. MAKE REGULAR BACKUPS!

You don't need iTunes for that. Simply connect the iPhone to the PC where it will be recognized as a camera. You can then select the photos you wish to transfer, transfer them, and delete them.

In the Photos.app you can select all photos in a "Moment" at once, by pressing "Select" to the right of the "Moment" name. Then press the Trash icon.

Can I batch delete photos from iPad and if so how?

I would add that if you don't want to delete the photos from your computer and want them off your iPad, then (1) create a duplicate folder of the photos to be deleted on your computer (select the folder, then cmd-D), (2) rename the duplicate to something else (thus retaining your computer's photos under a different name), and (3) opening the original folder--the one that was synced to the iPad originally -- and drag its contents to trash. Don't drag the FOLDER to trash---drag its CONTENTS to trash. Now resync this empty folder to your iPad. The photos on the iPad will go away, but you still have them on your computer. I know this is clunky but it works. It sure your be nice to allow you to delete individual photos from a synced folder on the iPad! (and iPhone)

  • How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro?

How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro while maintaining page size and annotation/highlight interactivity? I've tried to use the crop tool in Acrobat Pro (9) and the page does resize, but the highlights and annotations go all over the place. I specifically need to scale the page content smaller (83%) but maintain page size and annotation/highlight to content connection and interactivity.

An old trick (not recommended) would be to print to a new PDF with the page size selected but a scaling of the content. Only print the document, not the markup, to a new PDF. Close that PDF when done and reopen the old one (or maybe a copy of the old one for safety) and use Document Replace pages and select the new document to replace your current pages. You will then have to go back through the markup to locate it all correctly. There may be a more elegant way, but this may be the fastest.

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • How do I delete large amounts of photos from my ipad?

    a

Are you using iPhoto on your iPad? Then deleting photos will depend on the album they are in and how they have been added to the iPad.
See this document for IOS 6 and earlier:   iPhoto for iOS (iPad): Delete photos from iPhoto
If you also have a Mac, you can delete quickly large amounts of photos from your camera roll by connecting your iPad to your computer using USB and importing the photos into Image Capture, iPhoto, or Aperture. Then set the option to delete the photos after importing.
Photos you synced to your iPad can only be deleted by syncing again.
If you are using IOS 7 you can delete larger amounts of photos from your Camera Roll in the "Moments" view:
n the Photos.app you can select all photos in a "Moment" at once, by pressing "Select" to the right of the "Moment" name. Then press the Trash icon.

  • How to Convert a Large Batch of m4a to mp3

The other day, I wanted to burn a CD with MP3 files, using iTunes, so that I could listen to music on my MP3 player in my car, but when I tried to burn a particular playlist, about 50% of the files would not burn because they were in the M4A format. (i.e. files I purchased and downloaded from the iTunes store).
I needed to convert these files in a batch, because I have about 64GB of music, (having ripped my previous CD collection onto my hard drive) and I have better things to do, than converting each one individually, like driving around in my car, listening to music.
Here’s the basic method that I finally devised (see below for more detailed instructions):
Display the “Song” view in iTunes and sort by Kind (i.e. file type)
Select all the AAC Audio files (m4a)
Right Click and select “Create MP3 Version”
Delete the AAC Audio files (m4a) & empty the trash (m4a files will be deleted from your hard drive)
The AAC Audio files will now show up as being available to download from iTunes (a cloud icon with a down arrow), but you can hide these files by selecting “View” à “Hide Music in the Cloud”.
Now you can burn a CD without being concerned about the file format.
There are a few things that you have to check/set in order to make this method work:
First, you need to set the view, so you can see the cloud status and the song file type:
    Open iTunes and select “Songs”
From the top menu, select “View” à  “Show View Options” or Cmd + J
In the View window, ensure “iCloud Download” is selected in the “Music” section and that “Kind” is selected in the “File” section.  (you may have to click on the down arrow to expand these areas in the View window.)
Select “Sort by: Kind” at the top of the View window or click the “Kind” column heading in the Song List.
Second, you will have to set the conversion type to MP3:
    Open iTunes Preferences (cmd + , )
Under “General Preferences” under “When a CD is inserted:” click the “Import Settings” button.
Under “Import Using”, select “MP3 Encoder”
    Additional Notes:
Removing the iCloud Songs (downloadable) in iTunes:
You can also select all the “iCloud” files/tunes and delete them.  You will get an error message:
“Are you sure you want to hide these items in iCloud?  These items will be hidden from your iTunes in the Cloud purchases.”
If, at some later date, you want your AAC/M4A files back, you can re-display them so they can be downloaded.
    Retrieving the Hidden iCloud Songs:
    Open iTunes Store
Click on your iTunes account and select “account”
    Logon to your account
Under the “iTunes in the Cloud” section, IF you have hidden purchases, you will see “Hidden Purchases”, select “Manage”
Click the “Unhide” button or select “Unhide All” at the bottom
Log out of your account and return to your library and the Songs List.  You can now sort your list by the clicking on the “Cloud” heading icon to see all of your files that can be re-downloaded.
Click on the Cloud Download icon and the AAC Audio File (.m4a) file will be copied to your hard drive.

1 - select the photos in iPhoto and click "e-mail"
Or 2 - select the photos and export them to a folder (file menu Export) and right click (control click) on the folder and select compress [folder name] and then attach that folder to an e-mail

  • How do I transfer large number of photos to my PC or a CD?

I have several hundred photos that I need to burn to multiple CDs. How can I transfer these pics to my PC to do this? Please Help. Thanks!

When you plug your iPad into your computer do you see a popup window to import/view photos? (I'm on a PC)
If you don't see that, double click on 'my computer' and then navigate to your device and the DCIM folder. See if the photos you want are located in those folders. If so, simply drag and drop from the iPad onto your computer then use your burning software to make your CD's.
