How do I resolve an MS Windows iTunes update issue with Apple Mobile Device"?
I am receiving the following error message when updating iTunes to v. 11.1.4:
Service "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start service.
How do I resolve the problem?
I resolved this myself by uninstalling ALL Apple programs and reinstalling the iTunes software. No files were lost and account sync worked as before.

Unable to connect to ITunes message reads Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start services
Try removing and reinstalling Aple Mobile Device Service.
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS
If the issue continues after restarting AMDS, then you'll need to remove and reinstall AMDS and iTunes.
Completely uninstall AMDS, iTunes, and all Apple software. Click the appropriate links below for steps:
Windows XP
Windows Vista or Windows 7
Restart the computer.
Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. Installing iTunes will also install AMDS.
Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and connect the device. It should be recognized properly in Windows.
If that doesn't do it, take a look at the security software on your computer. Use this as a guide -> iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues -
Trying to re-install iTunes and the message "Apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." But I don't know what to do? Please can someone help, I'm not the most technologically advanced person.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

TS1567 Itunes wont download because Apple Mobile Device cannot be used due to error 1053
i bought an ipod touch 4th generation for my friend. She could not download Itunes beacause of the Apple mobile device not being able to activate due to an ''error 1053''... That error is something about not having the correct amdinistator privileges. I tried to run the download as the administrator but i needed the administrator password she said that she cant remember the password, actually she said that there was never a password. Is there maybe a way to dowload the Apple Mobile Device again so that she can download Itunes?
Its because your mobile device isnt started. Heres how to restart it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

Iphone wont sync with itunes i dont have apple mobile device
i dont have apple mobile device on my computer so that means my iphone wont sync to my itunes i tryed downloading the new itunes and everything but apple mobile device still did not download why? i need HELP!!!!!
I had the same problem. iTunes would not recognize my wife's phone as a device. My phone was just fine. So here is how I fixed her problem after exhausting all the apple support tips. First thing I did was go to apple.com and saved the newest iTunes software to the desk top (do not install yet). Then I went into control pannel to uninstall software. Uninstall the following....Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple software update, Bonjour, and then finally uninstall iTunes. Then reboot your system, once reboot is complete go to your desktop and install the newest iTunes that you saved earlier. This worked like a charm...let me know if it helps

Ever since the new upgrade of iTunes came out I can no longer open iTunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times to no avail. I keep getting the Apple Mobile Device Service warning that it timed out. I go into Services and I can't start the mobile device there either. I have followed every suggestion online and still can't get it to work.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
