Well, go ahead and try every port, make sure to clean out the port with a q-tip, to make sure no dust is blocking the ports.
Then enter DFU, if iTunes doesnt recoginze it when your in DFU, that means you charging input is damadged.

Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

Just note that if yo are getting a 3G iPod make sure that your get a 3G. A 2G and 3G look the same on the outside except for the model number on the back

It really depends on your own wants/needs. When the price of the refurbished touch dropped down to $199, I went ahead and purchased it, and so far, I don't regret it or want the 2nd generation (which I have seen and played with).
The main differences with the 2nd generation include a built-in Nike+ receiver (Nike+ is pretty much an iPod-integrated pedometer that works with just the Nano so far), external volume controls, and an internal speaker for "casual listening" (meaning that it doesn't really have that great of volume/audio quality, but the headphones are just as good as any other iPod).
I don't think at this stage we can determine which will have a longer, overall life expectancy. After all, the 2nd generations have only been around since the 9th of this month, and the 1st generations are roughly a year old at this point. Not really a fair comparison.
Regarding issues you might experience... several users on this forum have reported Wi Fi issues with the 2nd generation, but, keep in mind that this is generally a support forum, so most of what you see on here will be issues looking for resolution. I haven't had any issues with the 1st generation that I haven't been able to solve by a simple reset.

It is a purchased video and not a rented video, right? If you have a 4G iPod rentals can't be transfered to the computer.

If the older file wasn't yours (if someone emailed it to you,or burned it on a disc, or whatever), then I am almost willing to bet you a beverage in the city of your choice that it's not a complete InDesign file. That is, maybe it was zipped and renamed, or the beginning or end of the file was chopped off during download, or something like that. The only reason I'm not actually making the bet is that there is a remote chance that I'd lose, and maybe you're in Adelaide or Khabarovsk or somewhere where the cost of airfare to me would make that bet a very expensive bet for me to to lose. The script that Jongware posted will tell you what version of InDesign made the file to begin with. Additionally, if someone did something like rename YourFile.PDF to YourFIle.INDD, it'll report that it's Not An InDesign File. Because while SpectrumPCS is kinda right and that message can be generated when attempting to open a CS5 file in CS3 or whatever, it also spits out the same message when you just try to open an Autocad file, or a Windows system file, or a PDF, or any file that InDesign actually cannot open at all.

The built in Apps can't be deleted, but they can be moved to an unused screen. You could create a folder of all unused Apps and move it.
