How do I restore a backed up music library from another drive

I have had to move many thousands of music tracks from an old MacPro to a new Mac Mini. I transfered the whole music folder to a NAS before I did this and while the MacMini seems to have setup an iTunes library with some of the music a lot is not appearing. I have bought some more tracks and backed up CDs since this move onto the new libaray but now I want to restore all the missing tracks which are sitting on the NAS. How do I do this without ending up with hundreds of multiple copies of the tracks taht are on the Mini??? The Organise Library tool might copy the tracks across but it'll almost certainly make duplicates of exisiting tracks...
I have iTunes Sweeper but I don't think its capable of this. Is there an App that will?

3. It'll probably be named just as 'iTunes library.xxx' (can't remember the file ending now). Now, back up the backed up library (you can never be too sure) and when done, change its name to be identical to your current, pathetically small library.
4. Move the old library to the folder where the new one is. The system will ask whether you want to replace the the existing library with the same name, and of course you will want to.
5. Start iTunes anew and you should have your old library back.

I had backed up my iTunes library a while ago (more than a couple years) on CDs as Apple "demanded" at the time. Now I find that I need to restore my library to iTunes on the computer, and lo and behold, restoration doesn't work in the same manner anymore. Apparently, the process used to be quite simple; you inserted the discs, iTunes would ask if you wanted to restore the backup to the library and voila, the library was restored. I'm not exaggerating when I write that I have been looking for a solution for hours and have yet to find any instructions to remedy this problem. Any help (specific instructions) would be greatly appreciated.

How can I move my iPod iTunes Music Folder from C: drive to a New Drive?

Running out of space on my PC's C: drive, so I tried moving all the folder to my new E: drive ie: (E:\My Music 2\iTunes).
ALSO set iTunes (Edit/Preferences/Advanced/iTunes Music Folder location to E:\My Music 2\iTunes - but nothing seems to help!)
All of the files couldn't find the source files, unless I pointed to them one by one.
Can't move them all back because they are about 7GB+, and I now only have about 5.5 GB on my C: drive.
And when I just went to open iTunes again, all my libraries don't even show.
I'm afraid to plug in my ipod for synching until I get this straight, for fear of messing that up too.

In point #2 do you mean move the entire Program File folder of iTunes or just the "My Documents" iTunes library folder?
I have a full laptop, a big iPod and an external HD, I am trying to figure out how to store my library on the HD, but access it as if it were on the laptop.
I moved my iTunes library to the HD and then in iTunes I used the "add folder to library" function, but it brought all of the song files back onto the laptop.
How do you iPod gurus configure your setup with comp, HD and iPod? I need some guidance, my methods are not working.

I tried to install iTunes (11) on a new computer with Windows 8. I keep the iTunes library on an external drive. I tried to move the media files over to the newly installed iTunes within the hard drive program files, but it doesn't seem to work. The relevant threads in the forum are a bit over my head (I am brand new to Windows 8, having leaped over from XP). Is there some simple way to straighten out the paths on iTunes so that it will properly play songs from the external drive, show my old songlists, etc?

iTunes can be set to use the library on the external drive, and save new content.
To have iTunes open the alternate library on the drive use this option:
Steps to create or choose a different iTunes Library file
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you are using the Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of the following screens:

I presume that you did not not delete your iTunes library from within iTunes. Can you recover from trash? Also why did you manually delete your time machine backup? Time machine manages your hard drive space and removes older backups when more space is required.
If you have iTunes Match, open iTunes and turn on match.
If you see the tracks listed and you see the " ! ", delete all tracks but don't delete from cloud. Highlight tracks and download. If you see the tracks with download icon, highlight tracks and download.

Backing up iphoto library from hard drive to external

When backing up my iphoto library from my mac to an external hard drive I always seem to have to copy the enitre library. The way I go about it is I open a Finder window from my mac and then open a finder window for the external hard drive. Then I click and drag the iphoto library from my mac to the hard drive window.
Is there a way to just copy the most recent events?

The iPhoto Library is a package file so the computer treats it as one single file. It has no way to tell that "X" images are different between the library on your computer and the one on your external as they are all part of one large file.
What you are looking for is called an "incremental backup". You have a system for doing just this built into your computer, called Time Machine. Read more about Time Machine here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
-- Note: Time Machine will (unless you tell it otherwise), backup everything on your computer, not just your iPhoto Library (which is generally a good idea anyways).

While trying to clean up duplicate music files in my iTunes library, I mistakenly deleted several songs that I need to restore. How can this be accomplished? The songs still reside on the PC but need to be resynced to iTunes someway.

Unless you have a recent backup of your library that you can restore, iTunes has no information about the files you've deleted, so you'll need to use Windows' search functions to locate them. This is one of many reasons why you should set these options in Edit > Preferences > Advanced:
and if necessary use iTunes' File > Library > Organize Library... function to consolidate your media so that everything is stored in a standard, predictable folder structure under iTunes\iTunes Media.

Thanks but I already did read all of the help notes, which aren't very helpful for this. I did find out the problem- Apple.....they evidently changed one of the major upsides to their old software- being able to back up your entire library onto dvd's- so you can longer do that or restore from the dvds created from older versions of itunes. I suspect greed is at play in that Apple now wants you to pay $24.95 per year to use a "cloud" service where they back it up for you. I can buy a lifetime supply of back up dvds for one year's worth of cloud. So I am now looking into other music software as I am Appled-out. There is no reason for them to take away the back up portion of the software other than to sell you thrir cloud service. As we have already given them a ton of money for 5 Ipods and a bunch of music, I think we have contributed enough. Time to look to solutions outside of the Apple money tree. It was tele tech. I couldn't open my Page Numbers etc. Frist tech chat idiot - following dumping few things in bin, asked me yo upgrade to Yosemite. But the problem still persists. This morning I was asked to do it via telephone and like yesterday, after wasting 20 min, I was put to this apparent Tech Queen ( my foot!). She eventually decided to reinstall Yosemite asked me to connect my external drive while I connected to her. She was moving cursor asking me to move files and delete and I followed her like a dummy. It took 3/4 hours and she called me 3 times once the lengthy process was completed. I suspected from the beginng for the fact that why should be asking me to click all my backup from the very beginning! Eventually she said I deleted... Or someone else or may be my children ! It was a blatant lie. I run my small business from home and I was simply staying in front of the Mac whole day! Children were at school. Then she said I must have used another computer! I only have laptop and the iPad. I will talk to their manager first thing in the morning. In the mean time please let me know as to how can I transfer photos, music etc back to my laptop from my Iphone and IPad .? I am will connect to laptop as I am worried the new BLANK iPhoto may supersede iphone/iPad stuff? Will it? Please let me know. I am not a very tech savvy person.
