I had a power failure during a down load of images, now I have a message when trying to reopen Lightroom 5 that the preview cache is corrupted.
How do I get into Lightroom? to restore or change the settings?
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

If you forgot its password the iPod has to be restored. Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the Pod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector)release the Home button.

How do I change the preview cache disk?
I keep seeing statements such as "there is nothing to stop
you from locating the preview cache on another disk". Um.. there is a problem.
I find no option to do it anywhere. In catalog settings it only "Shows" the location and does not allow changing it. Am I missing something? I have looked and looked and the process is described nowhere. It is very frustrating because I can find these things on my own quite readily and in LR its totally buried if its possible at all.

It's not possible to change the location of the library preview cache because it must be in the same folder as the catalog. However, changing the Camera Raw preview cache (used by Develop module) location is done through Preferences. The following screen shot shows you where to make the change. -

Restore after sync is missing messages
In order to desimlock my iPhone 4, my operator instructed me to use iTunes to perform a restore of the iPhone (choosing the option to backup before actually performing the restore). Before requesting the restore, I had synced my iPhone once over Wifi to iCloud, then changed the settings in iTunes to "Back up to this computer" and synced again. I deactivated "Synce with this iPhone of Wi-Fi" and connected my phone to the USB cable and synced a third time, just to be obssessive.
In spite of all this, after performing the restore procedure (during which I also requested a backup when prompted), my phone appears to have none of the many SMSs and iMessages sent over the five-hour period preceding the restore, whereas these syncs all took place within the final 30 minutes before the restore. For now, I have found no additional data missing. This is however worrisome to me, as I would expect a restore following a syncronization to restore the latest data, down to the minute when then the most recent sync began.
Any similar experiences or explanations for this or how I might prevent it happening again?

PattersonPhotos in your iPhone's camera roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Although photos in the camera roll are included with your iPhone's backup, so is quite a bit of other data, so it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for these photos.
With XP, you can use the camera and scanner wizard.
Did you restore your 3G with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup? If not and these photos are still available in the camera roll on the 3G, you can import the photos.
If you restored your 3G as a new iPhone - the photos are no longer available in the camera roll, you can try using a 3rd party utility like this one to see if all photos are available with the backup for your 3G.

After a harddish crash I can't open the Catalog. I get a message that the program can't read from the preview cache. Can I restore the preview cache sommehow? Can I resotre the preview cache from a backup?

Collection add() produces cache corruption

I have an Application object with a serviceProviders collection, and a ServiceProvider object with an application reference. I have tried both direct and indirect lists.
When working with UOW clones of both objects, when I try to add the ServiceProvider object to the Application object's serviceProvider collection, and then call printRegisteredObjects() and validateCache() on the UOW, I get a cache corrupt message. Should this be normal?

I have several old albums where JPG's were apparently corrupted on an old striped RAID.
Aperture still shows the previews (quite large, thankfully) for these old images.
But when Aperture tries to refresh the preview, the previews mimic the corrupt masters. To stop the bleeding, so to speak, I renamed my Master directory so Aperture doesn't update previews for these corrupt JPGs. However, I'd really like to save these previews, even if not at full resolution. Some folders
How can I retrieve Aperture Previews and Thumbnails for these items?
My process so far:
1) Show package contents on Aperture Library.
2) Navigate to Previews
- some directories are here, some are missing
- for those that are here, back up elsewhere and mission accomplished
- for those that are missing, try to recover the thumbnails at least...
3) Navigate to Thumbnails
- Lots more directories here. Likely the ones I'm looking for. (but they have strange hash names, so it's hard to say)
- BUT, they only show large "AP.Thumbnails" files, no separate image file
The big answer I'm looking for... How to recover images missing from Preview directory and/or AP.Thumbnails files? (short of taking screenshots)It would be nice to know your Aperture and OS version, there have been changes over the years.

If you open the library in Aperture you can drag the preview images out of the browser and place them in a folder on your HD. If you cannot open the library then you will have to resort to going into the library package and rooting around. There was a big change with the library layout from Aperture 2 to 3 so knowing the version would really help here.
