How do i restore an ios 6 backup on ios 8 device

My good old iphone 4S running ios6 have stopped working. I have served my for long and worked flawlessly but now its gone.
Lucky for me, I did an itunes backup yesterday. At the same time I tried to upgrade to IOS 7.1, but itunes didn't let me go to ios 7.1 - only ios 8 was available.
As iphone 4s by many is judged "slower" or unstable, I did not want to do this upgrade. Anyway - this morning it stopped working.
So what I want to do, is buy a new iphone 6 and restore my backup from iphone 4s (ios6) on the new phone.
Any experience with this procedure or am I loosing all my data since I don't have a backup done with ios7
Cheers

Restoring from a backup restores your data. It does not change the version of iOS that is running on your iPad. Apple does not support downgrading the iOS so once you update you cannot go back to an earlier version. Doesn't matter what you do your ipad will run iOS 8.
Iif you are having problems with iOS 8 I suggest that you start a new question that has a title that provides the problem. Then in the body of the question describe the problem, provide all details about what you might have tried to correct the problem, what happened when you made the attempts and what, if any, error messages you received.

You need to go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.
Once done you will be back as though it is a new iPhone and you can setup from the iCloud backup.

I just came here today to ask the same question.
I have an iPod Gen2 with version 4.2.1 iOS, and iTunes 11.0.2.26
My iPod Touch was running sluggish so I backed up and selected the "Encrypt local backup" to "back up account passwords used on my iPod".
I selected a password for this backup and restored my iPod Touch.
When I went to restore from backup, that encrypted backup is not available on the drop down list.
However, if I go to the top of ITunes and click "Edit", "Preferences" "Device", it shows the back up with the pad lock on it.
I thought I was being smart backing up with encryption to back up account passwords, but now I have lost everything.
So many people have the issue where it asks for a password when they never told iTunes to do an encrypted backup and here we are with an encrypted backup, and we know the password, but we don't get the option to restore from it.

How can I restore a previous backup in iCloud storage for my iPad?

Restoring an iCloud backup requires you to first erase your iPad.  If you have any newer data that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the iPad and when given the option, choose Restore from iPad backup.

  • I found my appdata how do I restore the missing backup I found. I really need my sms

Please help, I lost a backup and found another one a little more recent and I need to get back some sms texts. how do I restore from the backup in the appdata?

If you have Windows 7, copy the backup to this location:
    %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Then relaunch iTunes and the backup should be listed in iTunes>Preferences>Devices.  Confirm that it is, then disable automatic syncing by going to Preferences>Devices and checking "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone, right-click on its name in iTunes and select Restore from Backup, choosing the newer backup to restore from.

  • How do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?

how do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?
I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life"  i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???
    Help
    Karen

I had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud.  I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop.  I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud.  Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook.  The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself.  I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
    I feel empowered!!
    Have i missed anything??

  • How do I restore from older backups on iCloud

How do I restore from older backups on iCloud?

Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings (which will erase the phone), then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup.  Sign into your iCloud account, agree to the terms and conditions and you will then be asked what backup you want to restore from.  (Apple states that it maintains your three most recent backups.)

  • HT4859 I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device.

I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device, and then signed in on the Cloud with the same Apple ID I used to create the Cloud on my old iPhone.  Can i still access my CLoud backup for apps, photos, etc.?

You'll have to start over by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go back through the setup screens again and this time choose Restore from iCloud backup (see image below).  Note: your iCloud account and iCloud data will still be in your account and will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.  You also may want to connect your device to your charger as restoring from backup can take some time to complete.

How do I restore info from iCloud onto my new device?

You would have to update your device first, before you can restore your iPad from your backup. Resolution: set it up as anew device, then update your device to the latest version "Settings > General > Updates", then reset your device again "Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings" and then after the iPad restarts again, choose to restore your device from your backup.

  • How do I restore to a backup that is saved to my computer but doesn't show up in iTunes?

I have an iPod touch 5, and i tried to reset it to factory settings to see if that would help charge my battery (it didn't help, I needed a new cord). I tried to backup my ipod, but the cord disconnected in the middle. When I clicked the button to reset my ipod it was supposed backup, then reset. iTunes wasn't updated when i did that. I updated iTunes after resetting my iPod, but the backup didn't show up to restore it to. I found it in my computer's hard drive and I want to know how, if i can, restore to that backup?

  • IPhone app (shapewriter) is corrupted. App's no longer in the Store. How can I restore from my backup?

An iPhone app that I love has become corrupted. This app is no longer available in the Store. Can I restore the app from my phone backup? How? Anything to watch out for?
Shapewriter was purchased by Nuance. As most Dragon users will tell you, Nuance treats its customers badly; apparently it does the same to companies it buys. Soon after they bought Shapewriter, they took it down from the store. Rumor has it that they just bought it as a weapon in some patent battle. Sad: it's a really cool app.

No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or conbtinue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    iCloud: Erase your device
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

I have an older backup (from before iOS8 update I think) on my PC.  I would like to restore that backup.  The restore routine in iTunes only shows the most recent backup, but I found some older ones in the C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder, one that matches the list of backups shown under Preferences | Devices.  How do I make that backup available to the restore routine?

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC?

HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES IPHONE BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC? THE REASON IS BECAUSE I HAVE TEXTFREE TEXT MESSAGES THAT I NEED FOR MY ATTORNEY AND WHEN I RESTORE IT FROM MY MACBOOK IT DOESNT INSTALL THE TEXTFREE BECAUSE I HAD DELETED ALL MY APPS IN ITUNES FROM IT. I HAVE ALL THE APPS ON MY DESKTOP MAC BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT ONLY THE BACKUPS FROM THE MACBOOK AND IMPORT TO MY MAC DESKTOP. THE DESKTOP MAC IS THE ONE THAT HAS ALL OF MY LATEST BACKUPS. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER. THANKYOU

Easy. Copy it from the old Mac to the new one.
There are a variety of techniques including Setup Assistant (as soon as you get your new MacBook Air, it will ask you if you want to transfer information from another computer), Migration Assistant (if you elect to transfer information later), enabling file sharing between the two computers, or copying your music to a flash drive or other storage device followed by importing it to iTunes.
iTunes: How to move your music from one computer to another
Once your music library and everything else you want to transfer from the MacBook Pro resides on the new MBA, sync your iPod to the MBA. Sync the iPhone too when you get it, and they will both have identical iTunes music libraries.

  • How do I restore OD from backup, when current OD is corrupt?

    Hi everyone!
Let me first say I am a newbie.
I was given the task of maintaining a 10.5.8 server and its replica. The problem I faced right away was not being able to add/remove users in Workgroup Manager (buttons are grayed out).
The 'LDAP Server' (Open Directory -> Overview) on the master is stopped, but runs on the replica, if this is relevant.
After reading some articles on this forum and elsewhere I realised the OD is corrupt and needs restoring from a backup. There IS a healthy backup at hand, which I managed to restore onto a test machine, freshly loaded with 10.5.8 (Server Admin -> ServerName -> Open Directory -> Archive -> Restore from:)
However, when I try and do the same on the OD master, it doesn't work. I enter the backup file's password correctly, it displays the 'Restoring' progress bar for a few seconds and then nothing changes - no change in the list of users in Workgroup Manager, buttons still grayed out and the LDAP Server still not running.
Here is the Configuration Log (Server Admin -> ServerName -> Open Directory -> Configuration Log), I've changed the domain name to 'MYDOMAIN' :

Thank you in advance for your replies!

There must be more to it than that. Simply dragging images from the iPhoto application window does not move (or remove) files. The only way I can reproduce what you've described is to command-drag files or folders directly from the iPhoto Library folder using the Finder. Anyway, if your photo database wasn't corrupted at first, then dragging files directly back into the iPhoto Library folder would have done it for sure.
To rebuild your photo database, start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys. Don't release them until you're prompted to confirm the intent to rebuild. Click "Yes", then click "Save".
Check iPhoto Help to see how to safely import/export pictures, and how to backup your iPhoto Library.
