How do I restore data from my iphone 4 to my iphone 5 that was initially set up as new iphone?

You can use iCloud or you can Restore From Back Up using iTunes. Your iPhone 4 data can now be placed in iCloud or you can Sync your iPhone 4 to iTunes. Once Sync is in iTunes, connect iPhone 5 to iTunes if it does not ask if you want to Restore from Back Up, right click PC or Control click Mac the iPhone 5 name in left column of iTunes. In the drop down menu select Restore From Back Up, in the menu in the center of iTunes select the back up you want on your iPhone 5.

You cannot. However, you can solve this problem by setting the iPhone as a new device and upgrading iOS in Settings -> Software Update.
After upgrading iOS, open Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings. Finally, Setup Assistant will let you restore the backup.

You mean an iCloud backup?  If so, first make sure your phone is running the same or higher version of iOS as the device that backed up was running.  If it isn't, you'll have to update it first in order to restore the backup.
Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.

  • How do I transfer data from one iPhone to another?

How do I transfer data from one iPhone to another?

If your old device is an Apple using iOS 5 or later, and you have an iCloud account, you can transfer all your saved messages, email accounts, photos, notes, and other personal settings to your new iPhone.
    Here's how...
Connect your old Apple device to WiFi and to a power source.
Back it up to iCloud by going to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and toggling iCloud Backup on. The time it takes to ba ckup depends on how much data you have and on the speed of your internet connection.
iCloud backs up your device once a day. If it needs backing up before you transfer to your new iPhone 5, tap Back Up Now in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. Do not start transferring before the backup is finished.
Turn on your new iPhone and complete the setup by selecting your language and country, and choose whether to enable Location Services. When prompted, choose your WiFi network.
When prompted to set up, choose Restore from iCloud Backup, tap Next, and enter your Apple ID and password.
Select the backup of your old device and tap Restore. Wait until the device has finished restoring from the backup.
When the restore process is complete, your iPhone will restart and be ready to use.
Connect your iPhone 5 to iTunes to sync data not contained in the backup (such as music, videos, apps, and so on). You can choose the data that are synced by clicking the syncing tabs in iTunes.

  • How can I restore data from iCloud

My iPad locked up last night and I had to restore to factory settings to make it operable.  During the process it asked me if I wanted to restore my data and it told me that the latest and only backup was from a few minutes before that time which was AFTER all my stuff got wiped out.  I was able to resync some apps and all my music from iTunes, but I lost a ton of pictures and other files that I thought were SUPPOSED to be safe on iCloud.
So I start reading about restoring data from iCloud and apparently Apple only does this on a NEW device.  What a load of crap!
Does anyone have any idea how I can get my data from the stupid iCloud to my stupid iPad?

The "Apple data" such as contacts, calendars, notes, etc. are not backed up to an iCloud backup, since they reside in the special databases on iCloud.  If you delete some data from a device (e.g. one contact), it is deleted from that device, from iCloud's database and thus from all other devices connected to that iCloud account.
Hence performing a restore from an iCloud backup will not help.
However, if that data was ever on a computer (assuming the computer also synced data from iCloud) and if you consistently perform backups using something like Time Machine on a mac or any number of backup programs on Windows, then you should be able to restore the data from that backup.  For example, on a mac, invoke the contacts app then choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine icon on the main toolbar.  That will allow you to go back in time and choose an older backup to restore.
If you have an iTunes backup on the computer, I'm not really sure that also includes the Apple data stored on iCloud.  It should have the local data.  For example, Contacts can be under "iCloud" or "On My Mac" (or whatever computer you use).  An iTunes restore should restore the data on your computer.
The whole idea regarding an iCloud backup is that if your device ever fails and must be replaced or reset, the backup will restore all the data as it was at the time of the last backup.   The restore will return all the device's settings such as iCloud login, on/off states of data to connect to (like contacts).  Once that's done, the device will connect to iCloud and download the current data.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

How do i restore iphone 5 data from an icloud backup??

If you have a computer with iTunes, plug it in and view it in iTunes. Go to Summary and click Restore iPhone. Later, you will have the option to set up your iPhone from the backup you have in iCloud.
If you do not have a computer with iTunes, go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Content and Settings. When you re-set up your iPhone, you will have the option to set it up from your iCloud backup.

  • Restoring data from old iphone

Hi! I had a 3g 16 gb iphone that was destroyed. My insurance payed for a new one, but when I connected it, itunes asked me if I wanted to merge the data stored from my old phone into it or if I wanted to treat it as a new one. I chose the merging option, but then it said that, because it had version 2.0 in it, I had to first update and that then I would have the option to put the information from my old iphone into it. I did update, and now I can´t see how I can make the old data merge into my new phone.
Thanks in advance for your help

Try restoring your new iPhone with iTunes from your previous iPhone's backup.
Restoring your iPhone with iTunes will completely erase your iPhone first followed by the firmware being re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from an available backup, which is the default selection. If there is more than one iPhone backup available, you can select from the available backups. This must be followed by a sync to transfer your selected iTunes content including 3rd party apps, and any photos selected to be transferred from your computer to your iPhone.

  • How to delete user data from damaged iPhone?

    Hi,
I have a damaged iPhone 3GS that I'm selling for parts on ebay. The device's is currently stuck on "update mode", basically I was updating to iOS 6.1 a while back and in the middle of the process, the phone returned an "hardware error" message and now it's allways stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen.
No matter what resets I try to do or restores, it wll allways return the "hardware error" message and then to the apple screen and finally to the "connect to itunes" screen.
So, I decided to sell it for parts since I've bought another (newer) iPhone, but I wanted to make sure that all my user data (accounts, text messages, phone numbers, etc.) was deleted just in case the lucky buyer manages to get it fixed. How can I do this?
Will the "clear phone data"option on iCloud do the trick, or do I need to do something more?
I also know that have to remove the iPhone from my iCloud account, is this correct?
What are procedures can you guys recomend for this?
    Thanks

I have a "new" piece of information about this issue that might help clarify the problem a bit.
I plugged it in today to do a final check on it's maladies and this is what happened:
    1.Device starts charging
2.Device show the "connect to iTunes" screen (the one with the USB and itunes icon)
    3.I connect it to iTunes
4.iTunes says something like: "This iPhone's software is damaged. A factory reset is required to restore the OS. Your device will be reset to factory settings and all your data will be deleted. After the reset is completed, you will have the possibility to restore your information on the device"
    5. I click "Restore iPhone"
    6. It starts checking for software, extracting software, etc.
7.I get the apple screen with the loading bar
    8. On iTunes the process stops on the "restoring firmware" step. It gets stuck there for a couple of hours and then eventualy it returns an hardware error
    9. The loading bar on the apple screen gets full, but the iPhone never manages to leave "restore iPhone" mode.
From all the iTunes messages and procedures that I'm doing, I take it that the iPhone's memory is in fact already wiped clean, am I assuming it right? That's why he won't boot and is stuck on recovery mode?
Can I also assume that any data I had there cannot be recovered unless I restored it from my laptop/iCloud?
And finally and just out of morbid curiosity, anyone has an idea about what is wrong with the iPhone? I never managed to figure out what happened or if it's something "fixable".
    Thanks for the help!

  • HT1386 How do I move data from my iPhone 4 to my iPhone 4s?

I backed my iPhone 4 to iTunes.  Then plugged in my 4s.  It wouldn't take the data etc from the 4 due to needing to update to iOS 6.  I had to add it as a new device.  Now I have two iPhones, a 4 and a 4s on my iTunes and can find no way to make the 4s as the 4 was.
How do I sync the data?
    thanks

Ok, I've managed to do this tonight for my new 4s so hopefully ill manage to explain it to you.
I take it you uploaded ios6 onto your 4s when you set it up as 'new'?
If so, now go into settings on the 4s and chose to 'erase all content and settings'.
When you now go back through the set up process on the 4s, it eventually gets to a screen asking if you want to restore from back up.
When you plug it back into iTunes this time, it already has ios6 now and fingers crossed will just work! Select the back up version you want to restore from and off it should go.
    Hope that helps
