How do I restore data to a new mac with windows boot camp partition?

Hi
I have a new iMac and an old MBP, I'd like to copy all of the data of my old MBP to the iMac.Would doing that affect the windows boot camp partition?
and how do I do it?
right now im backing everything up on my MBP using super duper
both the MBP and the iMac are running on Lion

I am assuming the Boot Camp partition is on the old MBP and that the SuperDuper clone is on an external drive and is bootable. The Super Duper clone does not include the Boot Camp Partition.
To get the Mac Data moved you can use Migration Assistant and if you want to transfer the Boot Camp partition you would need Winclone to move/copy it to a newly created Boot Camp partition on the iMac. The SD Clone ( and a Winclone backup) is your insurance policy if some kind of difficulty arises.

  • How do I migrate data to a new Mac?

    A) what is the correct sequence to migrate all my data to a new Mac?
    B) does the migration create an exact duplicate of what is in my "home" folder? Including paths to external hard drives that have movies, photos, etc on them? Such as an external iTunes library?
    C) what cables do I need for the data transfer? USB? Ethernet?
    Thanks

There are many methods to transfer to a new Mac. OS X can migrate just about anything into the new or current operating system. (A)
    * If you have an External Hard Drive (Time Machine setup) and backed up everything, OS X can restore the current files onto the new Mac. All it requires is your current credentials stored on the system. (B)
    * If you are migrating without an External Hard Drive and you are using a USB Cable, it will detect your computer and perform the transfer automatically after plugged in and following the tutorials (C)
(If you are using Windows and copying the files, you can use a USB transfer cable or copy/paste to the EHD. It's not recommended to use Windows Backup as it will be encrypted)
If you have purchased iPhoto or Aperture, you can tell it to scan your computer and EHD for the photos and videos already stored and it will copy them onto their own location folder after following simple settings.
On a restore, iTunes will import your library of music, videos, and applications and have it ready to sync with your device.
You can also perform a restore of your music, videos and applications (but not photos sadly) via iPhone or iPod or iPad after following two steps:
    * Store / Authorize Account (with device plugged in)
    * Right click iPhone / Transfer purchases from iPhone
    * Device will quote then sync automatically

  • How best to restore iPhoto library to new Mac mini

So I have a brand new Mac Mini and my iPhoto library from my old iMac is backed both on Time Machine and via CCC on different external HDs. I want to transfer my iPhoto library(>200 GB) to the new Mini. Is there any reason to restore from Time Machine versus CCC? Are there advantages to using one versus the other?  I would like to keep my events, albums, etc. if possible. I made the CCC backup just to have an extra backup.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim

You can use the one you prefer because it's the same. With Carbon Copy Cloner, you just need to go to the folder of the external disk with the library and copy the library to Pictures folder, and with Time Machine, you can use Time Machine UI to restore the iPhoto library

  • How do I remove the old windows boot camp partition which is now useless on my new Macbook pro

I had boot camped windows Vista to my old Macbook Pro 2009.
When I bought a new Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013, I restored from my Time Machine backup. It never put Windows Vista on as there was compatability issues.
I recently tried to partition in Boot Camp to install Windows 8 so that I can use a particular program for work. The "ghost" partition is still there and I can't see an option to make the HD as one again. Boot Camp wants me to format the HD as single and journaled which I understand but if I restore from my backup it puts the "ghost" partition back in. 6 hours of waiting to find that out!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thanks for responding.
Boot Camp shows my HD as a rectangle when I go to the "partition" tab but nearly half of it is white. Is this the free space?
The error message I got was:-
The disk cannot be partitioned because some of the files could not be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp assistant again.
I was only making a small partition, so it couldn't have been too big.
There is no evidence of any Windows installation or a physical partition but it must be there to get that message. Is that correct?
I can't see an option to format my whole HD but even if there was, the problem would reappear when restored from TMachine.
    UPDATE:
just tried to make the white area on my HD into a new partition and then erase it.
I'm trying Boot Camp again to see if that has worked. It just takes about 2 hours to get to the problem stage again!!

  • How to move my DWCS3 sites to new Mac with DWCS5?

What is the procedure for moving my Dreamweaver CS3-generated sites to my new machine, running DW CS5? Is there some sort of import feature for such a thing?
    Thanks-

    Hi,
I had to do this when my CS4 demo was about to run out.
I bought CS5 and before I installed, I loaded DWCS4, clicked Site > Manage Sites... then clicked export.
Loaded up CS5 clicked Site > Manage Sites...and clicked import, and selected my exported site files.
Not sure about CS3 since I am only 2 months old in web design world.
    Hope this helps,

  • Why is Winclone Needed? Can't Disk Utility Restore a Boot Camp Partition?

Hi. Could we just use Disk Utility to create a backup the Boot Camp Partition running Windows 7 64-bit for example and then just use Disk Utility to restore it if you need to replace your Boot Camp partition?
Why is Winclone the tool use to create an image of Boot Camp partition as well as to restore a Boot Camp partition? Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

Thanks for the reply. How about if you opt for the non compressed image, the DVD/CD Master option (Image Format) when you do the New Image in Disk Utility? Would choosing the DVD/CD Master option be cloning it instead of archiving it? If the images created by Disk Utility are not the exact copy or clone then, it won't be bootable I believe but how come when you create an image of a DVD (to back it up for example) and burn that image, it is bootable which mean it copies it exactly (clone it in effect)?
What does WinClone do or copy exactly that Disk Utility can't?

  • How do install windows hard drive (from dead pc) into boot camp partition

My Windows 7 desktop died recently, so I took the opportunity to buy a Mac Mini (latest version as of Feb 2012) as a replacement.  I want to transfer  the Windows 7 installation (from the dead PC) including all applications, accounts, settings, user files, etc to the Boot Camp Partition.   Can someone please provide the steps on how to perform the Win 7 migration to the Mac Mini.

    Just to clarify:
I want to install the Windows 7 installation from dead the PC into the Mac Mini's Boot Camp partition.
I installed the PC's hard drive into an enclosure and connected it to the Mac Mini via the USB port.
What I want to do is the following:
    1) Do a Windows 7 "fresh" install in the Mac Mini Boot Camp partition.
    2) Migrate all the applications installed on the  Windows 7 PC and their associated data.
    3) Migrate all user accounts and data.
Is there a tool that can transfer all applications and user accounts from the Windows 7 Hard Drive to the Boot Camp partition on the Mini?
Based on the documentation the Window Migration tool is Lion OS utility and does not perform a complete migration of all applications installed on the Windows machine.
    thank you.

  • How do I restore data from my iphone 4 to my iphone 5 that was initially set up as new iphone?

How do I restore data from my iphone 4 to my iphone 5 that was initially set up as new iphone?

You can use iCloud or you can Restore From Back Up using iTunes. Your iPhone 4 data can now be placed in iCloud or you can Sync your iPhone 4 to iTunes. Once Sync is in iTunes, connect iPhone 5 to iTunes if it does not ask if you want to Restore from Back Up, right click PC or Control click Mac the iPhone 5 name in left column of iTunes. In the drop down menu select Restore From Back Up, in the menu in the center of iTunes select the back up you want on your iPhone 5.

  • How do you restore iphone as a new phone?

    Hi there,
How do you restore iphone as a new phone? Actually, I know how to restore it but I'm not sure how to get the files back on after... I don't really understand how this will be any different from just restoring from a backup if I'm just going to put the content on later anyways.
Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated!
The reason I'm asking about this is because my battery life on my 4S is soooo bad!
    Brandon

Ah. So, the reason it'll help to use as new device is because typically the app data is not the issue. It's a corrupt system file. So using new device takes away any corrupt system files and almost always solves most any issue. However it does cause the pain of having to add everything back. I've done this in cases where restoring from backup just didn't solve my issue. It ***** but is sometimes needed.

  • Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.

Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.?

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • How do I restore data from icloud to iphone

how can i restore data from icloud to iphone

You mean an iCloud backup?  If so, first make sure your phone is running the same or higher version of iOS as the device that backed up was running.  If it isn't, you'll have to update it first in order to restore the backup.
Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.

  • HT1349 I just purchased  new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded Itunes, but when I try to add my Music Library from the back up dvd's I created off my old computer it doesn't automatically start the back up process like it did before. How can I "restore"

I just purchased a new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded new itunes, but when I try to "restore" my music library from the DVDS i made from my old pc it doesn't automatically restore my library as it used to.  How do I restore my music library from DVDS?

Thanks but I already did read all of the help notes, which aren't very helpful for this.  I did find out the problem- Apple.....they evidently changed one of the major upsides to their old software- being able to back up your entire library onto dvd's- so you can longer do that or restore from the dvds created from older versions of itunes.  I suspect greed is at play in that Apple now wants you to pay $24.95 per year to use a "cloud" service where they back it up for you.  I can buy a lifetime supply of back up dvds for one year's worth of cloud.  So I am now looking into other music software as I am Appled-out.  There is no reason for them to take away the back up portion of the software other than to sell you thrir cloud service.  As we have already given them a ton of money for 5 Ipods and a bunch of music, I think we have contributed enough.  Time to look to solutions outside of the Apple money tree.  But thank you for reading and replying.
