How do I restore from a previous backup point in iCloud on an iPhone 4s?

Just got my wife a 4s iPhone. During setting it up, I backed up to iCloud her calendar which wiped out her previous calendar that had been backed up from her iPad. Now the new, blank calendar is on both devices. How do I restore it and get out of the dog house?

Hello Bobby,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with your daughter's iPad.
iCloud stores the three most recent backups.  If you would like to restore from your iCloud backup, follow the steps in the section titled "Restore from an iCloud backup" in the article below:

Restoring previous backup will NOT revert to the older version of iOS.
    Downgrading iOS is not allowed.
    What are your problems?
Maybe if you list them here we can help you to fix them.

It is better to do a full restore.

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C.  I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup.  Why is it doing this.  I did it twice yesterday.....  In addtion, those are the only options I have.  I cannot do anything else unless I choose one of the two.  Zero options.  Phone works fine though.

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?
    In a word, no.
If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

How do I restore to a previous backup?

Restoring to an iCloud backup has to be done in the initial device setup process.  If you have any newer data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  When you're done, go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go through the setup screens on your phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Be sure it is connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • I back up everyday and then my iphone synced before i could restore, how do I restore to a previous backup

I back up everyday so that I can have piece of mind to restore, but my itunes synced and updated the backup to the way my phone was before I had the chance to do anything. How can I restore to a previous backup?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup to put everything on the new computer.

iTunes or iCloud? If it is iTunes, then it has an encryption password on it, and you won't be able to get the backup without the password. If it is iCloud, it would be your Apple ID password.

  • HT201250 How do I restore from Timeline external backup to a different drive?

Good day!  Here's my current architecture
    1 MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2
1 Lacie Rugged External Drive (1T)
    1 G Drive 2T RAID
    1 MyPassport External Drive (2T)
I have been backing up weekly both the MacBook Pro AND the Lacie to the RAID Device.
Lacie Rugged: My Lacie has my iTunes.  Recently there have been issues with communicating with the Lacie.  Genius bar says there is an issue with the drive itself.  I purchased a new Firewire to troubleshoot.  Still shows that the drive accidentally disconnects (e.g. not available) after about a couple of minutes.
So I bought a new drive.
Restore: When I plug in my new MyPassport and access my Timeline backups, I cannot see the Lacie backups to restore.  It seems that Timeline requires the original drive (Lacie) to be plugged in (which is the one I am having issues with).
Question: How do I restore from a backup(Lacie) to my new external drive(MyPassport)?

I imagine you mean Time Machine, not TimeLine. If you do mean Timeline, I have no idea what that is.

  • Restoring from a previous backup

I synced my iphone with itunes and it has replaced all my contacts with my outlook contacts.(I was only trying to sync my outlook calendar)
Is there a way of restoring to a previous backup, ie: I backed up the phone the day before this happened and it was all OK but I cant seem to find out how to restore to that particular bacup date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Hi wjosten,
The purpose of this thread is only what I have been asking for, nothing more, no strings attached: I want to put my iPhone in the settings they were before.
Where can I find on my iMac the copy of my iPhone's backup file. Since I do incremental backups, I probably have access to a previous iPhone backup not showing in my iPhone's preferences.
As for tethering, when you pay 30$ a month for a data plan, there is not fault trying to use more efficiently a 6GB plan used only for 50MB each month. Money is a concern for either party. If a company can make money there no point of being faulty by trying to save some.
    Regards.

  • How do I restore from a previously used backup volume ???

I have just added a 1 Terrabyte (1000 GB) firewire external backup drive for Time Machine's exclusive use - - because my chock-full 250 GB drive was so full that TM was forced to delete previous backups done only a few weeks ago in order to write new backups.
So I have now of course designated the new 1 TB drive for TM and it's working fine.
But....??????..... if I want to search my previous 250 GB drive for something older, how do I get TM to either search both drives (new and old) automatically, or enable me to browse from one volume to another while in the TM app ???
I can't find any explanations of how to seamlessly manage easily and in a user friendly way this ongoing issue of having multiple TM volumes - each covering different periods back in time.
If, in order only to search it, I have to go back to the 250 GB drive and re-designate it, again, as "The" TM drive, then won't an unwanted and unneeded full backup start and potentially erase what I am looking for ? The help files seem to be silent on this issue.
The user interface ought to have a list of current and previously used drives to you can designate which to search before initiating a search and restore operation. does it exist in hiding somewhere ?
Has anyone written a good manual for TM ?

Thanks a lot. I take it that I must resist the temptation to just directly double-click on the old volume from outside the TM app, and then "drag and drop" a found document back to where I want it and that it is vital to always restore from within the TM app.
yes, you should definitely resist that temptation. all TM backups are tagged with "everyone deny everything" ACLs. copying them via drag and drop will keep those ACLs and will cause you all kinds of issues. you should only restore them from TM interface which will remove those ACLs.

  • How Do I Restore from a TM backup?

Ok, heres the situation. I need to erase my hard drive because of problems partitioning my HD for Boot Camp, which I've seen that many people have encountered (APPLE FIX THIS!).
I've got a Time Machine backup and I would like to know how I restore my complete system after erasing the HD.
Do I run the install DVD and using disk utility to erase my HD? After that, do I need to reinstall Leopard first before restoring from Time Machine?
Also, if I need to reinstall Leopard first, does it count as using up a license even if it was previously installed, as I have a family pack for Leopard.
    Thanks

Restoring a system from a Time Machine backup assumes that you did not exclude your System Files and Applications from Time Machine to save space when you set it up. If your TM backup doesn't have the system files you will need to reinstall Leopard and then import the user files from Time Machine. You can check to see what is excluded in your TM backup by going to it's preferences and clicking on the Options button to see what is excluded.
In this case, you might have a much simpler job by just cloning your working system to another drive by using SuperDuper and then cloning it back onto your original drive after you have repaired all the partition damage you have.
Make sure your hard drive uses the same volume name before and after the repair so that TM will recognize the drive and continue to back it up as before.

  • My wives phone will not restore. we have had an apple tech and a verizon tech on this issue. we are trying to restore from a previous backup from iCloud. it is large. but a month now?! Help!

We restored her new iphone 5s from a backup on icloud from her previous iphone 5. it was restoring for two weeks! we called apple and eventually reset and started over. verizon had us do this again a week and a half later. still, now, its been over two and a half weeks and the phone will not restore from her icloud backup. she has alot of our pictures from the recent past holidays and pictures in icloud that we dont want to loose. along with all her itunes purchases.she is starting to get really upset. i know her backup was a fairly big one but if icloud sold her the storage to do the backup. why cant we get her phone to restore from this icloud backup? Is it the device? is that covered under our apple care? or under our phone warranty? Is it the size of the backup? im so lost and want to help her. I, writing this on the support community to see if you guys can help us. i really dont wat to spend another grand on a phone. thank you for your time. thanks for reading. happy holidays to you all..

Essentially it would mean another Internet connection yes, however it's your local network that I am wondering about and whether it could be the problem.
