Restoring previous backup will NOT revert to the older version of iOS.
    Downgrading iOS is not allowed.

  • How do I restore from a previously used backup volume ???

I have just added a 1 Terrabyte (1000 GB) firewire external backup drive for Time Machine's exclusive use - - because my chock-full 250 GB drive was so full that TM was forced to delete previous backups done only a few weeks ago in order to write new backups.
So I have now of course designated the new 1 TB drive for TM and it's working fine.
But....??????..... if I want to search my previous 250 GB drive for something older, how do I get TM to either search both drives (new and old) automatically, or enable me to browse from one volume to another while in the TM app ???
I can't find any explanations of how to seamlessly manage easily and in a user friendly way this ongoing issue of having multiple TM volumes - each covering different periods back in time.
If, in order only to search it, I have to go back to the 250 GB drive and re-designate it, again, as "The" TM drive, then won't an unwanted and unneeded full backup start and potentially erase what I am looking for ? The help files seem to be silent on this issue.
The user interface ought to have a list of current and previously used drives to you can designate which to search before initiating a search and restore operation. does it exist in hiding somewhere ?
Has anyone written a good manual for TM ?

Thanks a lot. I take it that I must resist the temptation to just directly double-click on the old volume from outside the TM app, and then "drag and drop" a found document back to where I want it and that it is vital to always restore from within the TM app.
yes, you should definitely resist that temptation. all TM backups are tagged with "everyone deny everything" ACLs. copying them via drag and drop will keep those ACLs and will cause you all kinds of issues. you should only restore them from TM interface which will remove those ACLs.

  • How do I restore from a previous backup point in iCloud on an iPhone 4s?

Just got my wife a 4s iPhone. During setting it up, I backed up to iCloud her calendar which wiped out her previous calendar that had been backed up from her iPad. Now the new, blank calendar is on both devices. How do I restore it and get out of the dog house?

    Hello Bobby,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with your daughter's iPad.
iCloud stores the three most recent backups.  If you would like to restore from your iCloud backup, follow the steps in the section titled "Restore from an iCloud backup" in the article below:

  • I bought a new phone and backed up my old one, while trying to restore the new phone I backed up the new phone before before restoring it completely.  How do I restore from a previous back up

Is there a way to restore a back up which isn't your last back up?

According to icloud support documentation icloud keeps last three backups. As long as you only backed up new phone once - you should be ok. Erase your new phone by going to settings -general- reset- erase content and settings and start restore over. Wait till you see available backups and carefully pick one you need. Give it plenty of time, restore visibly takes a short time, but it is not real - I d advise to restore overnight.

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C.  I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup.  Why is it doing this.  I did it twice yesterday.....  In addtion, those are the only options I have.  I cannot do anything else unless I choose one of the two.  Zero options.  Phone works fine though.

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?
    In a word, no.
If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

  • I back up everyday and then my iphone synced before i could restore, how do I restore to a previous backup

I back up everyday so that I can have piece of mind to restore, but my itunes synced and updated the backup to the way my phone was before I had the chance to do anything. How can I restore to a previous backup?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup to put everything on the new computer.

  • HT4859 My Apple ID is my AOL email address. Since I set up iCloud & another email address, I only have an Inbox.  I kept getting a IMAP error.  How do I restore to a previous iCloud backup before this happened?

My Apple ID is my AOL email address. Since I set up iCloud & another email address, I only have an Inbox.  I kept getting a IMAP error.  How do I restore to a previous iCloud backup before this happened?

It may be that the process you used to change the iCloud ID created these issues.  What I would suggest you do is the following:
If you have any photo stream photos on your device that you want to keep, save them to your camera roll by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.
Go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into your iCloud account and check to confirm that your data is all there.
Assuming your data is on icloud.com, go to Settings>iCloud on your device, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted.  This will only delete the account and your synced data from your device but not from iCloud.  Your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
Go to Settings>iCloud, sign back in with the correct iCloud ID and password and turn your iCloud data syncing preferences back on.  This will sync your iCoud data back to your device and recreate your iCloud email account.
Try your Mail again and see if it works properly now.
