How do I restore Itunes from a backup file?

I recently had my home PC completely crash and had to have a professional repair my system. He created a backup file of everything that was on my computer and I can see that the files exist, but I can't seem to get my itunes back on the desktop or to function at all. What do I do to get it up and running again?

I lost my memos in a crash and need to restore them from a backup file. The Blackberry Desktop Software has the Memos "Dimmed" and the software says "Dimmed entries are read-only data types and cannot be restored". This makes zero sense.

Anyone know why TV shows are not importing back into iTunes from my backup file?

My whole library was backed up on an external hard drive. Something happened to my library on iTouch and everything was gone except for most recent purchases. Also had new computer so downloaded iTunes again and went to import from my backup files. Music imported but most movies, music videos, and all TV shows did not. Also tried dragging files from backup folder to iTunes to copy but still did not work. Anyone know how to fix this??

iTunes: What are the iTunes library files?
If your backup/restore includes the library files then information that isn't stored in tags, such as playlists & playlist membership, ratings, play counts etc. is preserved. Video Kind (Movie/TV Show/Music Video) is a property that isn't always stored in the tag. If you had restored the whole library (database files & media) then there would have been no need to import anything as you would have restored the database complete with all its information about your media.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.

I believe in Notes it has an indication what will be shown, in the upper left corner of the app see if there is a spot where you can indicate on Mac, iCloud, etc...I apologize, I'm not on my Mac at the moment and I'm writing from memory. Most of the iCloud based apps (Calendar, Contacts, etc...) have this setting in the upper left of the app.

How do I stop iTunes from duplicating video files?

For some reason unknown to me, iTunes duplicates the video files when they are added to the library.
For music, when I add these to the library, the files stay on the external drive, and they are listed in the library.
However, I now moved my video files to an extrnal drive, but when I want to add them back into my library, it wants to copy all of them (the full file) from the external drive to my itunes folder. I moved them off of the computer hard drive because they take up too much space. I don't want them here, but I do want them in the library so I can select and sync them.
How do I add these videos to my itunes library, but keep the actual files on the extrnal drive?

Turn off the option "Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" under Edit > Preferences > Advanced.

How to Create new database from cold backup files.

I have an oracle 10g databae on windows 2003 server.
The database is in Archive log mode and backup strategy is Taking cold backup ever night.
Backup steps:
shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location.
Startup.
I have taken a backup at Tuesdaay 1AM and I have archive logs also.
On Wednesday, I want to Create a new database on another server with the available cold backup files and archive logs. I want to recover the database upto 4PM Wednesday. How can I do this.
I am not using control file auto backup or control file backup to trace.
Please help me how can I do this. I am new to oracle database Administration.

The steps :
shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location -- you mean the alternate location for the new databaseare correct (except that I would say "alternate location for the new database").
If you do not have controlfile backups, you cannot either OPEN the database or RECOVER the database until and unless you CREATE the Controlfiles. You have to generate a CREATE CONTROLFILE script using a BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE from the Production serer and create the controlfile on the new server.
BEFORE the Startup, I would use
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL;The "using backup controlfile" tells Oracle to continue attempting Recovery -- ie doing a RollForward -- till the last archivelog made available to it.
For the Recover command, you then keep applying the ArchiveLogs from the Tuesday 1am ColdBackup upto Wednesday 4pm.
Once you have applied the last ArchiveLog, you do an
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;Here are my notes of doing a RollForward "Recovery" from a Cold Backup :

If you are attempting all these steps on a different server from your current Production database, you should be safe.
Once you OPEN the database, you can use CREATE CONTROLFILE or the NID utility to rename the database.
If you are attempting to create the new database on the same server there are many other precautions you have to take and unless you have experience with cloning databases, I would advice you against doing so (only the RMAN DUPLICATE DATABASE command has a safer method of cloning a database).

How can I stop iTunes from numbering ripped files?

How can I stop iTunes 11.2.1 from automatically adding numbering before track titles when I rip files from a CD? I used to be able to do this generations of iTunes ago but later versions don't seem to offer an option to turn this off. All ideas, tips, suggestions and hints welcome.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'm not ripping music but rather audiobook CDs which I then use Audiobook Builder to create audiobooks I can "read" on my iDevice. On the odd occasion iTunes will "recognize" the audiobook CD and offer to import metadata for it ... which is almost always incorrect. Thus, I usually decline the metadata import and enter the appropriate and correct metadata via Get Info. Then, when I import the files from the CD, iTunes automatically numbers each file ahead of the file title. I was previously able to disable this behavior but I can't find any way to do so in iTunes 11.2.1. Some have said TinkerTool used to provide this feature but no longer does. I don't know if TinkerTool has a Mavericks-compatible version - I'll have to check that out. If not, then I'm still trying to find a way to disable automatic track numbering in iTunes when ripping audiobook CDs. Thanks again for your reply ... I 'preciate it.

Trying to restore itunes from straight backup

I'm trying to restore my itunes library after a reinstalling my entire mac.
I've a 10+ year old itunes media library kept on an external HDD, and have always regularly backed up my home folder using a Lacie app called Silverkeeper (this includes all the itunes library files kept in the mac music folder).
I have copied the lot back into Mac HD/ music/itunes.
I can't find the Itunes Library file in the backed-up user/music/itunes folder.
Everything else is there; xml, itdb files, artwork folder, previous itunes libraries etc.
Does OSX not let a 3rd party app copy the main library file? Where could it possibly have gone?
How will I get all the playlists/ settings back? Using my ipod?

Restoring iTunes from a backup hard drive

OK so my hard drive crashed. The good news is that the backup drive has all of my music on it. I got a new hard drive and installed iTunes. But now I do not understand how to get the music and playlists off of my backup drive and on to my new drive?
Is this possible?

Drag all of the content into the open iTunes window and then choose Consolidate Library from the Library section of the File menu. If the backup is a complete iTunes library(not just the music files), you can also open iTunes with the Shift key held down and point it to that folder or a copy of that folder on the hard disk.

The backup does not contain music or apps, it only contains app data. Your music and apps should be in your iTunes library. Syncing your new phone with iTunes should transfer your Music, Apps and other iTunes media to your phone if you have selected to do so on the various tabs of your iTunes sync settings.

I attempted to update my ipod today (finally) and i was surprised to find the update would fail with error 9
in order to get around this, i had to restore my ipod touch, which erased all data such as apps, music, and pictures
the music i had all backed up, and have already replaced on my ipod, however i was smart enough to back up all of the ipod's contents before i did the restore, specifically so i would be able to get the pictures off of the backup, and put them on the freshly updated ipod

How do I restore Contacts from an archived file?

I have found that my Contacts have been corrupted by a program that was designed to find duplicates. Many missing contact listing, text data removed from many more.
I have an archived copy of the data from the program that precedes the problem, and I have Time Machine backups that go back before this occurred.
I cannot find information on how to restore from either the archived contact list file, or how to restore just the contacts from the Time Machine backup

Delete the contacts in Contacts, double click on the archive (.abbu) file.
Or
Open Contacts, enter Time Machine, scroll back to the time when the contacts were fine, restore from there.
