How do I restore mail only...

Looking for some help...
I have recently purchased a new Mac and I am trying to determine how to install all my Mail details messages from time machine backup. I would like to keep all my historical e-mails and respective folders so it would seem I am on my "old" Mac.
I have tried using the "Migration Assistant" to restore my whole operating system/desktop on the new Mac but it could not find the DROBO FS (this is where my Time Machine backups reside) through the process, even though Finder locates it..?  This might be a DROBO issue- but can't put a finger on a definitive reason yet.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try Repairing the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Then try Migration Assistant again.

YEA!  My jurryrig worked!  To all with this problem:
You CAN have podcasts in a regular playlist IF you convert them to a standard MP3 first.  So, yes, a lot of manual labor
The good news: if, like me, it is a track that you listen to frequently (in my case meditations for sleep and relaxation) then the time is worth it.  I will mess with automator later to see if there is anyway to script this!  Then, less work for me and more for my mac.
    Here are the steps:
Select the file from your Podcast folder.
Change all data you need -- "artist," "album" etc...
Make a copy of the cover art for this file by dragging it to the desktop.
Select the Advanced -> Convert ID3 Tags menu item.
Check ID3 tag version, and select "v1.0" from the drop-down menu.
Drag the file to the desktop (this will make a copy of the MP3 on the desktop)
Delete the file from the iTunes list.
Drag the copy of the file you have on the Desktop back into iTunes.
Search for the file in the Library, and add the cover art again to the file.
Now the file is out of the Podcasts folder and works like a regular MP3 file inside iTunes. You can re-add it back to playlists!

  • HT201250 how do I restore mail

How do I restore mail - i seem to have over written it -I have time machine but no instruction about how to restore just one programm

Do you need to restore the application (program), or the data (mailboxes, emails), or the setup (preferences -- account names, mailbox rules, server names, etc.)?
Those are three different things, stored in different places.
If your Mail app is missing from your Dock, see if it's in your Applications folder.  If so, just start it, then right-click its Dock icon and select Keep in Dock.
If something else is missing, please clarify.

  • How can I restore MAIL program in OS X 10.3.9?

My MAIL Program is gone!! Only segment left is listed under Library/Mail/Mailboxes. How can I restore it? Do I reinstall ALL applications that came with my G-4, Mac OSX? Or can I reinstall my updated Panther (OS X 3?) Why isn't there a download for just MAIL for Mac OSX?
If I buy a year membership will that give me Mail?
Right now I use my ISP WebMail, and Eudora. But MAIL is so much better. Any help will be appreciated. THANK YOU.

I just downloaded Pacifist last night.....that program does exactly what you want it to do - extracts individual programs from your OS install discs so that you can reinstall/replace individual applications if need be. It worked like a charm.

  • How do I restore mail from Time Machine after a clean Yosemite install?

I've been having various performance issues with my iMac recently (wifi keeps dropping off, scan functionality on my multifunction printer stopped working, whole system periodically hangs) so decided to do a clean install of Yosemite. I also have a MacBook Air, also running Yosemite, and on which I have no issues with the wifi, printer or system performance.
Before doing the clean install, I made sure I had a current Time Machine backup. The process appears to have worked so far, but I have run into an issue restoring my mail. I think it best if I describe how I have restored my documents and then I can show at what point I run into a problem.
To restore documents, I opened Time Machine, used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install, and then selected the documents I wanted to restore. This was simple and worked perfectly.
To restore my mail, I opened Mail, selected 'Enter Time Machine' from the shortcut menu at the top of the screen and then used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install. This is where I got stuck as command-shift-C is a default shortcut in Mail that shows the colours dialog box. Hence I have been unable to view the correct backup. The backup I want is listed on the right hand side of the screen in Time Machine, but I can't work out how to select it.
I thought changing the shortcut in Mail might work, but I couldn't find a way to do that either since it is not listed in the Keyboard section of System Preferences.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Hey there,
It sounds like you're still having trouble exposing the proper library folder. You can use the following terminal command to do it globally (this will show all hidden files)
Open Terminal from your appliications folder and copy/paste this into it:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE (press return)
**After that last line you'll need to restart the finder so use:
    killall Finder (press return)
Now if you enter Time Machine the correct Library should be visible. To re-hide your hidden files repeat the process above but replace TRUE with FALSE, then use the "killall Finder" again.
I agree with the commenters above, you should restore the Mail library to the desktop and then re-import it to Mail. This is how I was instructed to solve this problem by Mac help, who I chatted with online for quite a while before they figured it out.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I restore Mail messages to Inbox

While working with my ISP on a mail problem I deleted all of the messages from Inbox and Sent.
I maintain regular backups so I have the messages there. They are located at User/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/POP-(me)@pop-server. . . .
How do I restore them to Mail's Inbox and Sent respectively?
    Thanks!
    -Joe

    Kurt,
Your answer put me on the right track but it would not work quite like you said. What I needed to do was import the InBox and the sent folders from the backup copy. This creates an imported mail folder containing the messages from the backup. Then from the Inbox and the Sent folders in the import folder I moved the messages into the main Inbox and sent folders.
On Both of my computers there is no Mail folder in the Home/Library. It definitely is located in the User/Library folder.
Thanks for your help getting me there!

  • How to undelete (restore) mail on iPad mini ?

A question to iPad mini users : How to undelete or restore mail suppressed by mistake on iPad mini ?

Also open Mail, go to Mailboxes, the Account, Trash and tap a mail message then the folder symbol at the bottom, and then choose the Inbox.

  • How to create a mail-only user

In WGM I need to have several users that have access to an e-mail account only, they never should get ftp access (or even terminal SSH, telnet, etc.).
So I solved this (at least I think so) by doing the following settings:
    (1) "Accounts" section, concerned user: "Advanced" tab, "login shell" set to "None".
    (2) "Home" tab, no home directory chosen.
I tried then to login via ftp as such a user, which was refused. But the message was just "login failure" so I'm unsure if I simply misspelled the password (I tried it five times, so not realistic) or whether or not this has worked.
Somewhere else I got the advise to also create a ACL list for the "Sharing" folder - but since this user has no home directory and no shell, I feel that this is not necessary nor makes it sense (I have a lot of users that change sometimes and creating one ACL per user is quite complex).
Can an expert of this forum tell me if it is sufficient what I did to the user's account preventing them to login via ftp, but still are able to send/receive mails ?

Since no one of the discussions could verify this, I called Apple today and asked them. Although I had some concerns about the knowledge of the operator I talk with, he has confirmed that anything was done correctly.
Should Apple or I being wrong, please let me know how to better solve this problem

  • How to wipe ipad mail only.

I want to wipe all the messages on my mail so I can resync.

If you want to wipe them from the iPad only, just delete the account (or turn mail sync off) in Settings - Mail/Contacts/Calendars.
If you want to wipe them from your email server, you should log into your server webmail from a computer and do it there.

  • HELP! How do I restore mail left on server?

Since I archived part of my mail into a separate folder, I no longer see in my main Inbox the content of the mail and I get a message saying "Message has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." the account is active, but I no longer can retrieve the message content.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How do you restore the Mail accounts, files, etc.?

Mail was working fine until an error came up that said the Home folder was full. I cleaned up the drive and have additional free space. I also removed the Envelope file as directed in another post. Mail will will start but it wants me to start over. Last night, I backed up the entire "User" folder on an external hard drive. How do I restore mail?

Mail will will start but it wants me to start over.
Does this mean you are prompted to enter email account information again or you are prompted to import mailboxes when first launching Mail after removing the Envelope Index file?
If the former, did you also remove the Mail.app preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) out of the Preferences folder at Home > Library > Preferences?
