How do I restore my contacts. I hit reset my mistake and unfortunately when I connected my phone to my PC, it backed up Automatically and over wrote the old back up with my contacts. I last backed up on icloud 5 months ago. I need help to restore .

Given the lack of reply I'd say my data is gone, which was my own surmise but I would like confirmation if that is possible?
Is it true that on my 500+ GB HDD that iTunes only keeps the most recent backup of the OS? I'm not sure if I had older backup that I could use that as it would cause other data (ie new messages etc) to be lost but I am genuinely curious. Also, I'm not aware if there is a selective restore - as in can I restore contacts from a backup without restoring the entire OS + state info?
I can't find the public apology from apple for inconveniencing so many of it's users with an update that was almost entirely political (bye bye Google), partially cosmetic (woot new title bar colour) and serious issues that caused data loss for thousands/millions - if someone could direct me to that it would be appreciated as I would love to provide some feedback to that post.
I wrote a more controvesially titled version of this same enquiry called "If Apple were worth $548 billion instead of $547 bn could they afford a software tester" and that thread actually had some useful replies before the thread was deleted by an over zealous forum admin. If the people that love the product so much that they can't bear negative feedback hadn't jumped my thread to troll with their foolish views it might even have gotten somewhere. So here I'm left with a bland post with no replies and still my data is gone. Would love a solution but fear none exists, thus the negativity.

First of all, i asked the hosts to remove your screenshot because you have posted information in that screenshot that you do not want other people to see, so if you post back and see that is gone, I made the request.
For the device not being recognized, try this first. Disconnect the iPad, quit iTunes, reboot your PC and the iPad and then try again. Use another USB port on the computer if you have one free.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

My windows xp computer got a virus and needed to be wiped.
As i store all of my itunes and iphone stuff on an external hardrive i thought this would not cause a problem.
Got a bit confused when i tried to open itunes again from the back-up hardrive as it would not open.
Wrongly assumed that the best option would be to re-download itunes and move my old itunes info across - silly silly thing to do :/
The new download just over-wrote the old one and after trying a few of the suggestions on here to get my old library back - i still cant work out if its possible as it has been over-written.
I don't want to plug my iphone4 into my computer as i have heard that this can wipe your phone completely, so before i do anything, does anyone know what is the best thing to do from here? or how i could posibly recover my old library, playlists, apps, podcasts e.t.c

go iTunes > preferences > advanced and temporarily disable the copy files ... when adding option.

I have bought a new macbook pro retina 13. I am not too familiar with Mac yet. I had an apple account with my iphone 4 which I stopped using a month ago. Now when I was trying to download the apps from that account but I dont know how to do this and I am unable to do so. I would be grateful if anyone can advise me with regards to this?
You cannot download the same Apps that you have on your iPhone. They are two seperate stores.
The store you have on your iPhone is the same for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone and iPod)
The store on your MacBook is only for Macs. -
Need help in restoring back to default Wallpaper
Hi,
My friend did change the IPad Wallpaper and when i try to restore it back to the original wall paper. I don't find it at all. Now how do i restore back to the
default wallpaper.
I did try the below options to restore
1. Reset Home Screen Layout
2. Reset all Settinggs
3. Default by pressing Home Key + Sleep/Wake Button for 10 secs until Apple Logo appears
But none helped to restore it. Need help in restoring back to old wallpaper.

1. Restart the computer holding the Command and R keys
2. In the OS X Utilities window, select Disk Utility and click continue
3. From the sidebar, select your internal disk drive
4. Click the Erase tab near the top of the Disk Utility window
5. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journales) from the pop-up menu
6. Change the name of the disk drive if you want to
7. Click the Erase button near the bottom right of the Disk Utility window
8. In the confirmation dialog that appears, click Erase
9. From the menu bar, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility
10. In the OS X Utilities winddow, select Reinstall OS X and click Continue
11. In the Install OS X window, click Continue
12. Read and licenss agreement and click Agree
13. In the confirmation dialog that appears, click Agree
14. Select your computer's disk drive form the list of available volumes, click Install
The installer will recreate an OS X Recovery HD, and then restart to the newly created OS X Recovery HD, and then continue with the remainder of the isntall process. This second part may take a while so be patient. When it completes, the iMac will restart again into the installed copy of Mac OS X as a new machine. You will be greeted by the full Setup Assistant. -
I have an iPhone 4S and never had a problem with syncing it. But suddenly, when I connected my phone to my mac, it says that its in recovery mode, and I need to restore it in order to sync. I've updated both my phone and my itunes, and it didnt work.Help?

No, it does not. It transfers purchases from the iDevice to the computer. The computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

how do I make it so that the one computer that has the main itunes account on it be used on other computers, when it comes to backing up phones and not deleting data off of phone that isnt on that computer itunes becasse its all on the one main computer. Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. Now if we want to be able to backup and use itunes on our own computers fro our iphones and such, how will all he data that is on our phones not be deleted once its plugged into a new computer? Also, is theere a way to get all the stuff on thw current itunes onto each computer, via differtn account name?
option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. When mousing over text, the cursor flickers constantly (with every letter passed) from arrow to i-beam and back. The problem occurs in both MS Word 2011 and Pages. Any idea of how to solve this annoying problem will be much appreciated. System 10.10.1 on a MacPro (Late 2013)
The mouse is controlled by the OS so don't guess any app other than a mouse driver or OS X itself would be able to cause this sort of flicker issue.
Have you seen the following and is it what you are seeing? Maybe you could make a movie (Quicktime is great for this this to make a screen recording) - but not sure how to attach a movie to these discussions as mine is grayed out and can't be selected (to the right of the insert image). I cannot backup my iphone, it keeps telling me the backup is corrupt and not compatible. All forums have suggested I delete the last backup but that was months ago and I'm afraid if I do that and it still doesn't work, I won't have anything saved. Can anyone help?

the email address assoc. with my iTunes account is no longer valid. can't access it. need to change it in iTunes but can't access account. even my birthdate is incorrect in iTunes...so can't log in. any suggestions on how to log in and edit info???
There is nothing that you can do to get rid of the balance on your own. Contact iTunes Store Support and seek their assistance. I believe that they can reset your balance for you.

when i back up an iphone on itunes does it save my social network passwords and stuff so when i connect another phone and sync it it'll all be there and i won't have to sign into everything again? because, i don't know most of my passwords im just signed in to everything on my phone but i'm getting a new one.

If you encrypt the backup, you can transfer the keychain information to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, you can restore the keychain only to the same iOS device. If you're restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you need to enter these passwords again.

I have an iphone6 16gb and the device storage is showing more than what i have installed in it. A few days ago suddenly i got a popup window of my device storage getting full though i hardly had 4-5 apps and 500mb of photos. I tried restoring the phone and using it again as a new phone, i got my 10gb of storage but it still holds around 900 mb of storage which is not accounted. When i connect my phone to itunes, around 868mb is shown in the others section. I have no backed up data except for the contacts which are there in the icloud account. i dont understand what is that 868 mb of data.
This space is taken up by iOS 8.
