How do I restore my laptop, if something goes wrong?

I just got a new ThinkPad X230, but I didn't buy it itself, my sister got it for me. Now what's troubling me is that she didn't give me any thing other than the charger and the laptop itself. And my sister lives in US(She got the laptop from US only).
I plan on dual booting Windows 8 with ubuntu 12.04, just in case something goes wrong and I mess up the whole system, deleting/corrupting Windows 8, what am I supposed to do then? Can I take the laptop to Lenovo service center and get the Windows 8 back? Or, is there any option of procuring copy of drivers and Windows 8 directly from their service center?

You can make your own recovery media - in the case of Windows 8 it's a USB flash drive - or you can order a media set from support.

It's also possible to make full backups to a USB HDD using the strangely named "Windows 7 File Recovery" tools.

I have a SVE14AE11W VAOI laptop but something is wrong.

So at the beginning of the year my laptop started to break, like the frame of both sides of the laptop and the handle/joint part which connects the screen to the body started to fall of and I haven't even had it for 1 year. It worked till June and suddenly that's when things went wrong. I turned on the laptop and it goes to a light blue screen that says "please wait" so I did, 4 hrs later, still says "please wait". And it has been doing that till now, I don't know what to do!!!!! PLZZZZ HELP
PS. Repairs are like $300 and I had a one year warranty but couldn't fine the receipt till after the a few days and warranty was expired

Apparently the service manual is incorrect because that part number is a PC2-6400 1 GB memory module.
So that means your notebook uses DDR2 memory, not DDR3, which is why the memory you bought won't fit.
Use the free Crucial memory scan tool to confirm what memory is needed for your PC.

I can tell you that 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 memory isn't going to come cheap!

Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try another backup.

And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

From template to DVD - something goes wrong, but where to fix it?!?!

This one really has me stumped, because to test each variation in the workflow could take me to the end of time (which is 2012 apparently!). I do apologise in advance for the forthcoming length but its a bit of a complicated one.
In short, I have shot an HDV project, digitised into FCP as HDV 1080i and used apple pro res 422 (HQ) as the compressor.
All went as per usual, looking good, but then I decide to add a template, bought from a third party supplier (trusted and used before).
Used the template in Motion 3, exported a quick time .mov using pro res 422 (HQ) and added to my sequence. All looked fine, a bit choppy in the canvas but when encoded to .flv it looked good.
Today however, I have burnt to DVD for the first time, and the main HDV footage and project looks fine, but the template aspect looks wrong - it can best be described as flicker, like a very slight field dominance issue.
So, I have spent all of today trying different exports from Motion, different exports from FCP and different settings on compressor - all to no avail - the template designer is even stumped too!
The problem is I don't know at which point of the process I'm getting it wrong, on export from Motion, on export from FCP or in compressor.
Will filters such as de-flicker applied to the clip in FCP have any effect or once its exported from motion thats it - no changes can happen to it.
To add to this nightmare, the original template is 24 fps! I have exported it as 25fps, but I wonder if its even do-able at all with this starting point?
I would also put a clip online, but it looks fine online, its only got the issue on UK TV. The template is flying screens from right to left, with moving text, and they flicker as they move.
So, over to you, well done if you read all the way to the bottom! Thanks.

The first thing I would try is to export the template as Pro Res 422 NOT HQ. The HQ does nothing for HDV footage and may be over processing it. For sure it makes the file larger. Second, is the template an HD template or are you enlarging to fit? Try an export with the field dominance set to none. No easy answer I can see. Trial and error will take time for sure! Good luck,

Can you explain what you mean by you restored your PC? Did you run a Windows System Restore? Usually that won't have any direct effect on Firefox (it won't help, but it won't hurt).
Before proceeding further, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings (including Bookmarks) in case something goes wrong. First. I'll make another post about this but worth mentioning - the dialogue when opening Cortana then having to connect with a MS account is barely usable. The "Next" button is completely black so had to guess that was where to click. When I select
any other window or click outside the dialogue disappears until I hit the Start button, Windows Key or the Cortana/Search button. Makes it near impossible to say copy what is written there when something goes wrong...

Anyway. Domain account, no restrictions that I know of from that side (my home/test domain). Attempt to connect MS account and get below literally not even a second later, it's basically an instant failure with the message:

How do i use the recovery disks and backup and restore my laptop in a new HDD without losing OS lic?

I am running a HP-DV6 6090ee laptop with windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS. This problem started from last evening.
I am getting a "Smart Hard disc error" error message before boot and ater booting windows saying that my HDD is having problems and i need to backup and check the hdd.
After checking i found that i have a corrupted hdd and i am going to replace with a new one.
I need to know the following :

> i dont currently have a OEM HP OS cd. can i use any windows 7 cd??
> at what stage should i use the recovery disk i created from the recovery partition be used? Whats its specific use?
I really appreciate any quick response as my current HDD is running out of life.
