How do I restore my Mac OS 9 to its factory settings?

how do I restore my Mac OS 9 to its factory settings?

Insert the install disk, restart with the C key held down, select the internal drive, choose Erase Disk from the Finder's Special menu, and install an OS onto it. If you are shown an installation screen instead of the Finder straight away, erase it from Drive Setup if not given an explicit option by the installer.

How do i restore my wifi setting back to the factory settings? I have changed it somehow :/ and now my wifi will not connect. My Airport is on and showing full strength but will not connect.

Ok, if other devices are connecting but just not your MacBook then let's start troubleshooting the MacBook to possibly find out why.
Please try each of the following, in order, until hopefully resolved:
Note the following are excerpts from an OS X Daily article.
    * Turn Airport on & off – You can do this via the Airport menu bar or from the Network Preferences. This is the first thing you should try when troubleshooting Mac wireless problems.
    * Make sure Wireless/Airport card software & firmware is up to date – This is usually done just by going to the Software Update menu, if there are any updates available for your Mac or Airport, install them.
    * Delete and recreate connection – Try deleting and recreating/reestablishing the wireless connection, sometimes a setting can be corrupted and this may fix it.
    * Create a new Network Location – Similar to the above suggestion, try creating a new and different wireless network location to see if it resolves the connection problems.
    * Change DHCP auto settings to manual – sometimes there is a problem with the DHCP server, and if you manually set an IP address on the network you can be fine. Remember to set the IP to a high number so it wouldn’t interfere with other DHCP machines. As long as you have the subnet mask, router, and DNS settings configured manually as well, this shouldn’t be a problem.
    * Flush the DNS cache – Launch the Terminal and enter the following command onto one full line within the Terminal: dscacheutil -flushcache
    * Zap the PRAM – Reboot your Mac and hold Command+Option+P+R during restart until you hear another chime, let the Mac boot as usual.
    * Delete Wireless Config files – Delete com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist and com.apple.internetconfig.plist files from ~/Library/Preferences and reboot
    * Trash your home directories SystemConfiguration – Remove all files within ~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and then reboot your Mac.
    * Reset your Mac’s System Management Controller (SMC) – For MacBook and MacBook Pro’s: Shutdown the MacBook/Pro, remove the battery, disconnect the power, hold the Power Key for 15 seconds. Replace the battery, reconnect power, and zap the PRAM and wait for 2 chimes before letting the keys go. Let boot as usual.

  • How do I restore my 2011 MacBook Air to its original settings?

How do I restore my 2011 MacBook Air to its original settings for resale?  When I do the cmd R and go through the process, it begins the restore process for Mountain Lion because I upgraded to Mountain Liion on this machine a few months ago.  And it's asking for my Apple ID.  If I do that upgrade, the buyer will have a version of Mountain Lion that is associated with my Apple ID and that won't work.  Also, isn't there licensing issues in such a case?  I want to restore the MacBook Air to its original factory settings when I purchased it in April of 2011.  At that time it was Lion and not Mountian Lion.  And I don't want any software on this computer to be associated with my Apple ID.
    Thanks for all your help.
    Ron

Press Command, Option and R keys on boot, open Disk Utility, erase your disk and reinstall Lion

    Hi, Mommacat26.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This usually means that a required component is missing.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.

  • How do I restore just Apple Mail (and all its folders & settings) with TM?

    Hi folks,
I was trying to set up an e-mail client on a PC, clicked and unclicked my gmail pop & imap on and off, and when I got home to my Apple MacBook, I had inadvertently reloaded (twice!) every e-mail that I've ever gotten in g-mail to Apple Mail which I use happily at home! No matter what I do, Apple Mail just won't delete the 29,000+ emails. And Mail is hanging, I suspect it just can't handle the massive numbers of e-mails and all the attachments, images, etc.
So I figure I must start from where I was at last Time Machine backup. I want to restore everything about Apple Mail as of my last backup -- all the same folders, saved mail, preferences, etc. How do I restore just Apple Mail but nothing else? Thanks!
    -- Josh

I've never done that, and don't think I've seen any similar posts here. You might want to look in the Mail and Address Book forum at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223
Take a look on your system at +<your home folder>/Library/Mail.+ (List view is probably best for this).
You'll see a number of folders for accounts and mailboxes. There are separate folders for each account, and within them for various mailboxes, plus folders for "on my Mac" mailboxes.
With Mail off, of course, I think you should be able to restore either the entire Mail folder, or selected sub-folders within it, via Finder > Time Machine.
After you do that, you may need to use the +Mail > Mailboxes > Rebuild+ option in Mail.
(Do not use the specialized Mail > Time Machine +Recover your <named> Mailbox+ option there, as it will leave the current contents alone, and restore the messages to a new "restored" mailbox.)
Let us know if this helps or hurts.

  • How do I restore my MacBook Pro running Lion to factory settings? I don't want to keep anything on the hard drive.

I am running Lion and know how to get to my Mac OS X Utilities but I cannot figure out how to do a full factory setting restart like I have done the past with the OS disks. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Use disk utility to format your hard drive then reinstall Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) on to the hard drive.

  • If I restore my iPod 4th generation to its factory settings, will iOS 6 still be installed?

I mistakenly updated my iPod to iOS 6 and I wanted to restore it hoping it would downgrade back to iOS 5. Soo if I restore my iPod 4th genartion, will iOS 6 still be installed?

No, it would not revert to iOS 5. Restoring only means removing your personal settings, apps and other things. it would not downgrade the iOS version.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want to erase the disk, reinstall Mac OS X and your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you have OS X Mountain Lion or Lion:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting.
    2. Open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X.
If your Mac came with DVDs:
    1. Insert the OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X

  • How do I restore my mac to it's Factory settings w/o Disk Utility?

Hello Everybody. I had some trouble with not being able to start my Macbook Pro.
So I decided to just restore it to its default settings. I then erased the disk using the Utility Panel, and then pressed reinstall OS X Lion on the Macintosh HD.
It then dowloaded the needed files and started downloading.
When it was done, it started installing, but is stuck at the very beginning, then it gave me an error message saying it cant complete the installation beacause it can't create the recovery.
Then i started looking for a solution for this, and found that I had to remove my Bootcamp. Now, when I restart the mac and CMD+R, it says fail..
If I start it and hold the Option key down, it only shows my bootcamp and the installer for OS X Lion...
So how do I now restore my Mac to its Factory Settings.
Am quite francly clueless right now.
    Hope you can help!!

Well, I don't know if your model supports full Internet Recovery. You can try the following, but if you get an error it means your computer isn't able to use full Internet Recovery in which case you need to buy Snow Leopard or replacement discs for the computer:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
Install Mavericks, Lion, or Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Download and install an updated EFI Firmware ROM for these computers to use the OS X Internet Recovery feature:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011)
    MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011)
    iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
    iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
    MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)
    Mac mini (Mid 2010)
    MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Mid 2010)
    iMac (21.5-inch and 27-inch, Mid 2010)
    MacBook Air (11-inch and 13-inch, Late 2010)
If your computer is older than these, then you cannot do an Internet Recovery.

  • I am selling my iMac but would like to restore it back to its factory settings! How do i do this?

I am selling my iMac but would like to restore it back to its factory settings! How do i do this?

If you use iTunes to buy music or Apps for an iOS device run iTunes and Deauthorize your computer. Do the same with the Mac App Store program.
If your computer shipped with Lion you'll first want to need to restart the computer with the Recovery Partition (hold command R while you restart the computer) Once you've booted select the option to format the hard drive and then select the option to install the OS.
If your computer shipped with an earlier version of the OS, restart your computer with the system disk. Select Disk Utilities from the menubar options and format the hard drive. Then select the OS install option and install the OS.
