How do I restore old back-ups that was automatically deleted by Time Machine on a recent back-up?

The most important files in my macbook pro are the pictures in my iphoto library. When the photos are using up too much of my hard disk, I decided to transfer it to an external hard-drive (seagate 500GB). I transferred all my photos in my library to the said hard drive via Time Machine. I don't ususally back up my files that often. But today, when I backed-up via time machine, I was not aware that it automatically deleted the oldest back up to accomodate the more recent one. However, the oldest back-up contained the important photos which were already deleted form my macbook. Now I am in panic, as those photos are priceless!! is there a way for me to restore those photos erased by Time Machine?
Please help??? Thank you!
Sheilla

Sorry to tell you but those photos are basically gone. Time machine is not a place to store files you no longer need on your computer because eventually those older backups will be deleted.
About the only way to retrieve them is to use some type of data recovery software or service. But I'm not sure it the software will work with the time machine backup system files.
In the future do not count on time machine for storing older files that you have deleted from the internal hard drive.

  • How do I obtain a corrupted file that was automatically deleted upon me trying to open it after not have been working on it in a while?

Hi, I had typed a paper for a class that is worth half of the class grade a while ago, and today when I went to open it, the file wouldnt open and my macbook pro displayed a message saying that the file was corrupted. However, the problem now is trying to get that file back.  It's not in the trash or anywhere on my computer.  Is there anway possible to get it back???? PLEASE HELP

What kind of document is it and what program were you using that wouldn't open it?
Have you looked under "Recently" opened?
You can do a spotlight search for content within the document to see if it can be located.
Do you have Time Machine running? If so, you can retrieve the last non-corrupt version.
If you provide more information we may be able to help you.

How to remove the old email address that was hacked from my iCloud account when iCloud won't let me?
Pretty much the the email that I used (but didn't verify) to create my iCloud account was hacked and now I can't remove it from my iCloud account due to the iCloud password also being changed by the same person and the fact I had "Find my iPhone" app on my phone also??? I had to change my iTunes email as well but that was far easier so yeah :S.
Please help. I live in NZ, out in the country, so reception is rare and so is getting into the nearest town that has an Apple Store.
    Thanks

If you truly change your existing Apple ID's email address to a new email address, follow these instructions: iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
If you created a whole new Apple Account because you couldn't access the old one after being hacked, you will need to contact the Apple Account Security Team. Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

  • HT201250 Is there a possibility to recover erased files from an external hard drive that was reformatted by the Time Machine?

Is there a possibility to recover erased files from an external hard drive that was reformatted by the Time Machine?

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • HT1766 How do I restore a Photostream album that was deleted and probably not backed up?

I connected my iphone to my computer and for some reason that intiated a system restore before I could back anything up. I thought I might be able to get my photos back, except when I checked, some photo albums were there and others were not. Additionally, when I hook my phone up to my computer, any photostream albums are supposed to save into a folder on my computer except it didn't do that this time.
I just got my phone back from France and I really need these photos! Some help would be appreciated!

  • How do I restore my PS CS6 actions pallet from my Mac time machine?

Because of a corruption in my old computer I am unable to do a full time machine restore to my Mac computer which is running OSX. They had to wipe the computer, and I have to re-download all the software from providers website. I can drag preference files, photos, and documents in from time machine. Now that I've downloaded Photoshop CS6 again. How do I go about restoring my previous actions pallet?
    Thanks for you help!

Sure it does, on my generic USB Logitech keyboard it is the one with the windows symbol on it.
Additionally if you are using a wireless Logitech keyboard, it might not work because it may not be paired with the computer at startup. In that case, you may have to use a USB keyboard to invoke startup commands.

  • Accessing back-ups on external hard-drive with Time Machine.

    Hi guys,
I hope someone can help me with this problem. I am a novice at this so please be patient and forgive my ignorance.
I backed up the internal hard-drive of my '06 iMac onto an external Iomega 500GB hard-drive using Time Machine.
A couple of weeks later the internal hard-drive of my iMac fried and I got the " grey screen of death ".
Now I have the external hard-drive connected to my '06 MacBook.
There is 300GB of data on the external hard-drive. There is only 50GB of space available on my MacBook.
I would like to access my iPhoto on the external hard-drive but when I click on the iPhoto icon in Time Machine, I get "error code 10657 ".
I am NOT trying to do a full restore of the back-up onto the MacBook because :
    1. There is not enough space available on the MacBook and
    2. I will do a full restore when I have bought and installed a new bigger hard-drive into the iMac.
So, I guess my question is this : Is it possible for me to access my iPhoto on the external hard-drive using my MacBook without doing a complete transfer and if so, how ?
    Thanking you in advance,
    Sean.

If this is a network device, you can't back it up with Time Machine. If it's directly attached, and in Mac OS format, delete it from the exclusion list in the Time Machine preference pane.

  • How to full restore OS X state to a specific date from Time Machine backup?

Hello! Could someone please advice how to restore the state of my iMac to a specific date?
    NOT to the latest backup?

The only way I found to make a full restoration of OS X to specific date from a TM backup is to launch OS X in recovery mode (Cmd+R during startup) and then choose "Recover from Time Machine". Full restoration took approx 2 hours.
Dislike it very much. During my being a Windows user I could roll back in a matter of minutes with system utilities

  • If I filled the system hard drive, and I'll delete anything on it, it's off and on the external drive, or can I safely clean the system hard drive and all that was done in the Time Machine in the same place, on an external hard drive and will remain ?

    Please help

Time Machine does delete "old" backups, eventually.  "Eventually" is controlled by whether or not you have used all of the space on the TM drive.  If you have "more free space" on the TM drive, then nothing should be deleted yet.
If youd elete files from a system drive, and continue on the same TM set, TM does NOT scour all old records to purge missing files ... else the "time" part of "Time Machine" makes no sense.

  • Time Machine freezes after clicking "back up now"

Whenever I click "back up now" to start a Time Machine backup, the top of finder "rainbow wheels" and freezes for good.  The only way to get out of it is to restart the computer (relaunching finder does not fix it).
OK, so why not let time machine just back up on its own?  It doesn't do that, either - when the time for the "next backup" arrives, time machine simply pushes the time back by one hour (if it was scheduled for 1:00 PM and the time arrives, Time Machine just re-schedules it for 2:00 PM).  It does this forever - it won't back up!
The hard drive is a brand new 1 TB that is completely error free.  I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.3.
Is this a known problem?  Any suggestions on getting around this?
    Thanks!

Wow, thanks for the help everyone!
Just in case anyone else has this issue, I solved it by re-installing Mavericks (not re-imaging/erasing) over my existing installation.  I'm guessing it was a bug with finder that was causing it.  Time Machine is now backing up without a problem.

  • How can I be sure that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interogate the back ups i can't identify individual music or picture files?

How can I confirm that the back up to my time capsule has backed everything up as when I enter time capsule and interrogate the backs ups I can't identify individual photo or music files?

You cannot browse a Time Machine backup with the Finder. To restore individual music files or any other files normally available in the Finder, open your Music folder then "Enter Time Machine" using the Time Machine icon.
Restoring individual photographs is slightly more cumbersome. Apple recommends restoring the entire iPhoto Library, but if you want to locate an individual photograph you could use Time Machine to restore the old Libary. Restore it to an alternate location to avoid overwriting your existing one. Open iPhoto while holding an Option key, open the restored Library, find the photo you need and export it, close iPhoto, re-open it with your usual Library, and import the photo.
Time Machine depends upon a number of sound engineering principles for reliable operation, one of which is "faith"
Your files will remain intact until your Time Machine backup device becomes inoperative.
