1. have your time machine drive mounted on your mac.
2. in the finder, go to /Library/Preferences and find a file named com.apple.mail.plist and select it
3. in the Time Machine Menu in the Menu Bar, go to Enter Time Machine
4. Time Machine will open and navigate to the corresponding spot in your backup(s)

how do i restore my iCloud settings after my daughter has accidentally deleted them while setting up a new phone to the account?

Hello Emily,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you need to sign out of your previous Apple ID on your device, but do not know the password, then you will need to reset the password on that account. Since you do not have access to the email with that Apple ID, you will either have to reset the password using the security questions or contact Apple ID account security.
If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support
Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support
Take care,

My toolbars are mostly empty. What happened? How do I restore the original settings?

* If, on Windows, in Firefox 3.6 the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down or press F10, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
* Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click on it to make that permanent. See [[Menu bar is missing]]).
* Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
* If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to one of the toolbars.
* If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button

• How can I restore Parental Control Settings from Time Machine Backup?

I was trying to adjust one of the parental controlled accounts for my child. I disabled parental controls, rebooted, and re-enabled it. Now all the settings that I had setup before are gone. How can I restore Parental Control Settings from Time Machine Backup?

Hi ...
I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.
Hope this helps.
BTW - I found this out by reading the 'blue box' selection on this page: http://pondini.org/TM/E2.html
(Thanks goes to Pondini!)

• HT201250 Hi, how do I restore my email from Time Machine, I use Apple Mail, I can't see a folder marked "email" Thanks

Hi, How do i restore my email when it has been backed up in a time capsule, I can see files for photos, documents etc etc, but nothing that says email. i use Mavericks and Apple Mail
Thanks - fist time using this so forgive me if I havent given enough info

The simpliest way to restore Apple Mail emails is to make sure that Apple Mail is the active application running on your OS X Desktop. Then click the Time Machine icon on the OS X menu bar, and then, select the "Enter Time Machine" option. Time Machine should open with a number of Apple Mail windows with copies of your email messages over time.

• How do you restore previous backup from iTunes to iPhone?

How do you restore previous backup from iTunes to iPhone? I did something wrong as now nothing is on my phone but several questions such as language, etc. They keep repeating. When I turn phone completely off, the same thing happens when I turn it on. It is very frustrating now to have no phone service or anything at all on my phone.

It sounds as if the phone is waiting to be activated. Did you update software or something like that on the phone? You can either try to finish the Setup routine, or you can connect the device to iTunes on the computer and then after selecting the iPhone in the device pane, click on the button that says Restore a Backup.

• How do I restore previous versions of a file?

How do I restore previous versions of a file?
please I really need your help

If you've overwritten the previous version of the file, you're probably out of luck. Some applications, like MS Word, create a temporary copy of the file, but they usually delete it once changes are saved to the original file.
You can use version control software such as CVS, SubVersion or ClearCase to keep track of changes to files. You could also store previous versions with some kind of backup scheme, with such tools as Apple's Backup, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper or Retrospect.
OS 10.5 Leopard will include a sort of built-in versioning tool called Time Machine, as well as (reportedly) come with SubVersion pre-installed (OS X currently comes with RCS and CVS).
You might try data recovery software such as DataRescue to see if it has the ability to recover your file.

• TS3999 How can I restore deleted items to my iMac which are still in the calendar in my iCloud?

All the events in the Calendar on my Imac have disappeared but are still shown on the Calendar in Icloud. How can I restore the data to my Imac?

Hello there,
It sounds like you have verified that your canlendar data is stored in http://www.icloud.com and would like to get that info back into your calendar application on your computer. I would start by using the troubleshooting in the following article named:
iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3999
Make sure that your account was successfully created in Calendar (or iCal) on your Mac. After upgrading to iCloud Calendar, you may need to quit and reopen Calendar (or iCal). To confirm that your account is configured correctly in Calendar (or iCal):
Open Calendar (or iCal).
Open Calendar (or iCal) Preferences.
Click Accounts. You should see an account with your iCloud member name in the Apple ID field.
Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on:
Quit Calendar (or iCal).
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then select iCloud.
Deselect the checkbox next to Calendars (or Calendars & Reminders in Mountain Lion and Lion).
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
Replace the checkmark next to Calendars (or Calendars & Reminders in Mountain Lion and Lion).
Close System Preferences.
Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue is resolved.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,
Sterling

• HT5361 I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system. How can I do this by year instead of laboriously doing it one message at a time?

I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system. How can I do so by year rather than slowly removing one message at a time? Many thanks.

Another option is to create a smart mailbox that includes emails with date received before a desired date.
Then, select one message in the Smart Mailbox and cmd-A to select all. Then delete.

• HT4889 How can I restore my email accounts and email settings from time machine without restoring all the applications

I have just restored my Macbook Pro having had some applications corrupting it. I have restored my data and other information, but am struggling to restore my email accounts, signatures, folders and contents. I have been using time machine, but do not know how to restore the right bit. Thanks for your help. P

Open Time Machine, and in Finder navigate to the "V2" folder (shown below) and highlight its contents. Then select the Previous DATE over on the right edge of Time machine to then "Restore" from.

• How do I restore my email and email settings?

I messed up my email preferences while trying to get my outbound mail to send. The Roadrunner tech had me set up a new account (which wiped out most of my inbox) and then couldn't get me fixed. I'd like to restore my email preferences and my email inbox. sent , etc from earlier today before I messed them up. Couldn't figure out how to do that with Time Machine open : couldn't figure out how to navigate to email preferences without the Finder menus, nor how to restore the status of the program earlier in the day. Any pointers? Thanks. Bill

Copy it or drag it to the Desktop so that it's no longer there, making sure Mail is closed when you do this, and then restore the same folder from Time Machine.
This is essentially to make sure that we have the data you have now still there as well as nothing to complicate an overwrite when we bring them back from TM.

• How do I restore previous tabs while keeping a blank homepage?

Locking duplicate thread.
Please continue here: [[/questions/928918]]

Firefox randomly updated itself today and some settings changed. I always restore the tabs I previously used, and whenever I open a new tab it would show a blank page. I don't know how I did that, but now I only ever get the options to "show my windows and tabs from last time" or "show a blank page." So now when I open a new tab, it shows me small images of websites I frequently visit, but I don't want that.
So, how can I both open my previous saved tabs all the time while having a blank page when I open a new tab?

Hello,
I don't think it is possible to open a blank page when restoring your session. You can always open a new tab and then restore your previous session using the "Restore Previous Session" on the page "about:home" which you can set as your home page. However, you mentioned you do not want the most visited sites to be shown on the new tab page, so to solve that you need to click the 9-panel box button in the top right-hand corner of your screen after opening a new tab, once you click that you will never see the most visited sites unless you press that button again.
Hope this helps.
Scott
