How do I restore previously backed up data on itunes to my new iphone
I just got a replacement iphone5 from Asurion insurance company bc my original one got wet and wasn't working correctly. I backed all my data up to itunes. When I plug in my new phone itunes registers "two iphones" and it won't let me restore my previously backed up data onto the new phone. Does anyone know how to get around this so I can transfer my backed up music and contacts? thanks!

I began having problems with my iphone 5 after I updated to ios7. It began having several issues e.g. freezing, turning on and off by itself and the home button was not responding.
It is a long story because I had to talk to apple reps etc. to make a long story short; my iphone is now in recovery mode and only works when it is set as a new iphone.
Now my back up data on itunes will not back up into my iphone 5 and my iphone is still in recovery mode.

You will need to restore your phone and when prompted use the backup that you made yesterday.
Before you do so, you may wish to change your wife's iCloud login details, otherwise you may find that you then overwrite her data. She should have her own iCloud account to avoid this. -

The iPad should be backed up by iTunes as part of the update process but just in case....
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

If you're asking how to restore an iCloud backup to your phone, you have to first erase the phone. If you have any newer data on the phone you'll have to save that first. Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.

And my iTunes sign in is also screwed up... It is underneath my friends email (the one with my backed up data on his Mac laptop) HOW DO I CHANGE THIS SO THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD APP's again...I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone. Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

please I really need your helpIf you've overwritten the previous version of the file, you're probably out of luck. Some applications, like MS Word, create a temporary copy of the file, but they usually delete it once changes are saved to the original file.
You can use version control software such as CVS, SubVersion or ClearCase to keep track of changes to files. You could also store previous versions with some kind of backup scheme, with such tools as Apple's Backup, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper or Retrospect.
OS 10.5 Leopard will include a sort of built-in versioning tool called Time Machine, as well as (reportedly) come with SubVersion pre-installed (OS X currently comes with RCS and CVS).
You might try data recovery software such as DataRescue to see if it has the ability to recover your file. -

Setup your new phone, then update to iOS 8.1.3. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings". At the setup screen you'll now be able to select your old phone's backup.
