How do I restore "staff" access privileges?

Safari, mail, software update and backing up my ipad are not behaving properly. I think that's because I screwed up access privileges on some files, trying to allow access to two user logins. I'm trying to restore them, by copying the privileges I see on my Macbook, but I don't see how to include the system-provide "staff" group.
Help would be appreciated.

This is not necessarily a permissions issue, but could also be a corrupt library.
To repair permissions in the iPhoto Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. You'll see the option to check and repair Library permissions.
If that doesn't help, what version of iphoto do you have? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do I restore Read & Write privileges to a hard drive?

I made an error to change it to No Access for the administrator. Now the hard disks are no more on the desktop, and in Disk utility they show as non-selectable documents. How can I restore this? Please don't tell me I've lost my drive!

What happens if you boot from your install DVD and repair your permissions? You could login as 'root' and reset permissions that way.

  • How do I restore permission access to entire iPhoto library

I am having trouble accessing photos within my iPhoto library. I keep just my iPhoto library on a separate partition of my MacBook Pro drive (but not my home folder). I can see thumbnails of the photos within iPhoto but when I try to access the larger photo I see a giant exclamation mark:
I have had this issue before using Lion and was able to restore permissions via the following terminal commands:
sudo chown -R username (press spacebar, drop iPhoto library file into Terminal window, press enter)
sudo chmod -R -N (press spacebar, drop iPhoto library file into Terminal window, press enter)
sudo chmod -R u+rwX (press spacebar, drop iPhoto library file into Terminal window, press enter)
this no longer seems to work under lion. Any suggestions?

  • How do I share iTunes access privileges with another user on my mac?

My wife and I use the same Mac. I recently created a separate user account for her after upgrading to Mountain Lion (so that we can get full functionality out of the new features). I gave her user account full administrator access as well as read & write sharing ability in certain folders... So why can she not purchase content on iTunes? What is the best way to extend the same iTunes account across different users on the same Mac?

I found the answer on the Quicken Support site. Unbelievable!!!!
    Article ID: GEN82981      Updated: 8/11/2011 |
Unable to Share a Data File Between Multiple Users on the Same System
Cause The Quicken Essentials data is a data package that contains multiple files.  Each item in the package has permission set based on the current users profile.  When the Package is moved to a shared folder, the permission in the data package are not changed, therefore cannot be accessed by another user.
You can change the permissions for each individual file within the data package to be accessed by other users.  However, the first user who opens the file after the permissions have been changed, will take ownership of the data package, and it will no longer be accessible by the other party again.
SolutionThis issue is currently a product limitation and is expected to be resolved in a future version of Quicken Essentials for Mac.

  • Dynamic Access Privilege to Workbooks

    Hi,
How to grant / revoke the access privileges to Folders(Awm) while opening the work books in OracleBI Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18 .
    Detail
1.I have created a two work books namely orabook1,orabook2 based on two different folders namely folder1 ,folder2 in a user called orauser1.
2.Orauser1 have "select "privileges on both the folders.
3.Now user can open the orabook1 and edit the worksheet to replace the existing folder1 dimensions with folder2 dimensions and their measures .
I want to restrict the user to replace the existing dimensions and their measures with other folder dimensions and measures
How can I restrict the privileges of folder2 from orauser1 while user opens the orabook1(folder1 based workbook) and vice versa.
    Thanks,
    Natarajan.U

    Hi everyone
Before anyone starts throwing comments around that Discoverer is poor because it cannot do this, please tell me for a moment how I can dynamiclly restrict database access in SQL to only those tables that are used within a certain piece of SQL code? Of course the answer is - we cannot.
This is exactly what is being asked for here and is simply not possible. Discoverer is only a front-end to SQL after all and its the database privileges that ultimately control access to the underlying tables. We can't go around granting and revoking those on a query by query basis because how on earth would we ever build a new query or extend an existing one to be able to add a new table?
Good idea, but please don't knock Discoverer on this one.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • ITunes: Podcast "Access Privileges"?

After listening to many podcasts over the years, they have suddenly stopped working. I can't download episodes anymore; I get that exclamation-point icon in the left-most column.
Clicking on it brings up an error message saying I don't have enough "access privileges for this operation." I've never heard of that before in relation to podcasts, and indeed, the Help files make no mention of it.
I suspect this may be due to my recent upgrade of my Mac: although I'm using the same admin account from the migration, I had to rename its "shortname" (that appears as the title of the Home folder). Could this have something to do with this problem?
In any case, anybody know how to get back the "access privileges" for podcasts?
    Thanks for you help!

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access.

  • My ipod wont sync - I dont have access privileges

Please can someone help me - I have had my ipod for a few years now and never had problems - now it wont sync with my itunes libary to my ipod as I dont have access privileges for some reason - does anyone know how I can regain my access privileges?

In iTunes, head to Edit -> Preferences and then click the Advanced tab when the new window comes up.  What is the location of your iTunes library on your PC under the Media location?
Once you have that information, you'll want to browse out to that folder.  Once you have found it, right->click on it and choose Properties. When the window comes up, make sure you are under the General tab.  Make sure the folder is not set to Read Only.  Then make sure the change is applied to all subfolders and files.

  • Restore from back-up now "The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges...."

My wife bought a new MBA and restored from back-up. Now when she tries to drag a photo from iPhoto into a Pages document, she get's the error "The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupt". Interestingly, there is no problem dragging the photo into the finder.

What versoin of iPhoto and system are you running - 9.4.3 and 10.8 4?  How did you restore from the backup? Are you able to view the photos when you double click on them in iPhoto?  If not what do you see?
If I've guessed the versions correctly Apply the following fix to your library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Options #1 to repair permissions and #4 to rebuild the database.

  • Restore from Time machine: now I "do not have sufficient access privileges"

    Hi,
I recently needed to restore my ageing PowerMac G5 running Leopard from a Time machine backup.
This all seemed to go fine, except that having completed the backup I have the following problem:
My computer has 2 physical HDDs, 1 is partitioned in to 3 virtual disks, the other is for Time Machine so in effect Finder shows 4 disks.
The problem is that since the TM restore I can only open the System disk, all 3 other disks are throwing up:
"The folder "[NAME: eg Time Machine]" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
So how can I regain access to the other disks? I have been attempting to access them using my main Admin account.
Please help, I have huge amounts of important files which I thought I'd protected using TM & can no longer access any of them!!
    Thanks in advance.

The drop down menu is grayed out and I cannot change it from "No Access". Can that be made selectable somehow?

  • I keep getting dialog box saying " The itunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"  I am the only user on this computer and only one library! how do i change access privileges please?

hi I keep getting the dialog box " The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"
How do i  amend this  as i only have one account and one library. I cannot save new work or delete duplicate files

A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them!

I have a company Ipad that belonged to a deceased employee. no access to his icloud or appleID. how can I restore it for use with a new apple ID?
The apple ID was his personal account and can no longer gain access. Im sure I can get purchase recipts from the accounting department if needed. I tried to put the Ipad in restore mode and used itunes to "recover" the ipad but it still wont let me in because he registered the device with the "lost iphone" feature or whatever that is.

The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. is preventing my iPhone from syncing. How do I fix it? I have changed permissions until blue in the face. What is going on? Why is this so hard? I just want to sync my phone.
A little background. My iTunes library is in a shared folder. My Aperture library is on a .DMG in the shared folder with "ignore permissions on this volume" checked. I have added myself with read and write privileges to everything that I can find. What gives? Thanks in advance.

PC, windows7, iphone4, updated iphone (5.0.1) and itunes (10.5.2.11) software. Started getting "iphone cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" message.
Solution I found that worked: Uncheck "Sync photos from Iphone" in Itunes / Devices / Photos tab.
