How do I restore the cloned drive ....

Good Morning,
I was wondering if you can help me. I made a copy of my hd with super duper on an external hd . Now how can I restore the drive to the macbook drive?
Thanks in advance.

If you
made the clone with SuperDuper, start up your Mac
from the clone by holding the "option" key on startup
and select the clone. Then start SuperDuper and clone
the external back to the internal.
You can use the Smart Update option if you bought and
registered your copy, which will save a ton of time
when cloning and restoring.
~I have a backup of a mac (10.4.9) made with superduper
~I attached this backup with firewire to another mac (10.3.9)
~I restarted this mac with the option key held down
but....there was no dialog box to "select the clone"
~Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks.......
Mark

• HT1820 how do you restore the hard drive with install cd after zeroing out all files? when i try to boot install disk or from usb a kernel panic screen appears telling me to restart my computer.

everytime i try to boot installation a message appears saying 'you need to restart your computer. holddown the power button until power is off then press down power button again'. i read that it was a kernel panic. cant boot into any modes but recovery mode with disk utilities but my wireless internet says no wifi hardware installed and sometimes startup manager. this just started after i erased the hard drive and had it overwritten with zeros. its a macbook pro 7,1. bought it in 2011, i think it was made in 2009. it has 320 gb of empty space right now and nothing ive tried seems to work. please help!!!! there is also no os x installed right now due to me zeroing out the hard drive how do i repair it so it will boot to installation?? i can also enter single user mode but do not have root access?

You are getting a kernel panic because you are trying to boot the computer with a Tiger DVD. That model requires 10.6.3 - Snow Leopard. You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:

• How can I restore the hard drive to an earlier date

I was wondering if there is a way to restore my computer to factory defaults like when I received my iMac, without a disk? I think it needs a good cleaning. It is running very slow and my web browsers keep freezing as well as skype. It doesn't matter which browser I use either.
Please direct me how to if possible.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

• How to restore the Main Drive from Time Machine after replacement

I have a Late 2008 PowerBook Pro. I have a 2TB external drive for Time Machine.
I replaced the main drive with a 1 TB drive and thought that i could restore from the Time Machine. I have another external drive that has an earlier OS on it. It lets me select the time machine drive but doesn't allow me to restore the main drive.
I must be missing something because this is exactly why there is a Time Machine.
Can anybody give me some hints?
Thank you so much
Rudolf

You need to use online recovery to re-install an OS X on the hard drive;
the utilities to correctly format the hard drive may be accessed there.
Ideally, you'd have a working copy (clone) to then be able to re-clone
into a prepared hard drive, for an off-line complete restore to new HDD.
There are details, right now I'm not able to go into them.

• Restore the hard drive to the factory WinXP OS image - T60 1951-A31

I'm trying to restore the hard drive to the factory WinXP OS image on a number of 1951-A31 ThinkPad T60.
Found these instructions in the trouble shooting guide:
1. If possible, save all your files and shut down your operating system.
2. Turn off your computer for at least 5 seconds.
3. Turn on your computer. Watch the display carefully. While the message, “To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button” is displayed, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery workspace opens.
4. Click Restore your system and follow the instructions on the screen.
The problem is that Restore your system does not appear.
I found a thread on Thinkvantage looks promising: No Restore Option
The thread has this:

kamszelei, welcome to the forum,
from a lurker
which version of Think Vantage System Upate do you have installed?
If you have version 3.13.0009 installed please try the following; boot into Windows and run TVSU. It'll update itself, restart, then update itself again. Hopefully the option to recover to factory content will then be available to you.
Please also check the following registry key; HKLM\Software\Lenovo\TVT Common
If the "System Type" key is 1, change it to 0. If it is already set to 0 don't change anything and let us know
Unfortunately my Thinkvantage update system is saying it cannot connect because it is not running
Here are my questions about ThinkVantage:
How do I get Thinkvantage update to run?
How do I find the version number for Thinkvantage
How do I "boot into Windows and run TVSU
My other question is this:
Can I simply buy the backup DVDs with the original XP?
Thanks
(mod edit: fixed broken link)

You need to have a harddrive installed that contains the original system restore partition, many people delete them because they are redundant and use up space and after a while, most of the content is outdated, meaning it will install 4-5yo system and software that you'd only want to replace or update anyway. I prefer to install from a windows setup disc, but you can buy the restore sets, it's a set of 7 or 8 CDrom, not DVD discs. Lenovo sells them I believe, or if you can find someone willing to copy a set and send them to you, it would save you some money. I can tell you that if I had a several of these to do, I'd much rather use a single windows setup disc, preferably one with the latest service pack and updates, so I'm done after a few mins and one disc, opposed to installing many discs, changing from one to the other, then in the end downloading and installing service pack three, then a few dozen hotfixes, it could turn into hours of work on each unit, but if you want them with all the preloaded software, then that is the only way. • How do I replace the hard drive in my Macbook Pro

Okay...
I need more space on my computer, so I want to replace the hard drive. I have no OSX install disk, but my computer is running Lion from the app store download. Can I just back up my data onto my new hard drive, and literally just swap them out? Also, how should I back up my drive? should I use a hard drive enclosure with my future drive, and just use time machine or something? Would time machine back up everything? Would the drive become bootable? Please help!

The best way to do this is buy your new drive. Get the largest you can buy, and don't buy anything from Western Digital, just a recommendation. The Samsung 1TB is pretty sweet. Put that drive in a external encloser (they're inexpensive). Using CarbonCopyCloner, clone your internal drive to your external one. This is the cleanest way to do it.
Then, boot to the cloned drive, just to make sure it works. It's just a test. Shut down. Replace drive (you can find the instructions for your MacBook Pro, by searching the support section of this website, the manual is there).
Start up with new drive. Make sure everything is fine. Use old drive in external enclosure as either a data drive or scratch drive for Photoshop or whatever you do.
I would set up Time Machine going forward with your new drive. You need a drive at least as large, and probably 50% larger than your internal drive.

• Is iTunes 11.1.5 compatible with Mac OSX 10.6.8? If not how can I restore the previous iTunes version?

Problem: Recently when I open iTunes it doesn't work; the little pinwheel just keeps spinning.
I have tried leaving it on, as suggested by another user, for over 12 hours. I didn't work.
I think the new iTunes version, 11.1.5, is not compatible with the operating system; Mac OSX 10.6.8. If this is so, how can I restore the previous iTunes version?

You need to be updated to iTunes 11.2.2.
You might want to consider running the combo updater over your install to refresh your files.
Combo updater: Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update v.1.1 - 1.09 GB
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
After running the combo updater, select Software Updater and update iTunes.
If iTunes fails to open after updating, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes. It will ask you to locate your iTunes Library.
Note: I've seen users with their iTunes Library on an external drive spin like this when the drive was failed to be seen in Disk Utility. Run Repair Drive on the external drive to fix this issue.

Before the recent updates to Firefox, when I would go to another page in the same window and then clickon the back button, Firefox used to bring me back to the same place on the page where I had been, but now it brings me to the top of the page, meaning that I have to laboriously scroll down to the old place. How do I restore the previous feature?

That change was made in Firefox 4, 6 months ago.
Click-hold the unified Back / Forward button
or
right-click it to get the Back / Forward history for that tab.
Or install this extension to get the old "drop-marker" button restored.
How can I remove the hard drive from an iMac g4 before recycling it?

There are take-apart guides online. For example
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/imac_g4/imacg4_takeapart.html
However, you can also consider securely erasing the hard drive instead. You can do this using a Mac OS X installation disc with a version that your iMac G4 can boot from the optical drive. If this is a viable option, please post back (include Mac OS X version on installation disc).

Are the contact details in your contacts app, the phone app uses the contact app to put names against telephone numbers.
