How do i restore windows 7

Windows will not come up when you turn on computer . It reads disk error. Did digonostic on it and it said Hard Disk 1 failed what do i do to fix it so windows comes back on.

Help us to help you by posting the following information.
1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.
 2.  Is your notebook still covered under warranty?  Check your warranty status Here.
That error normally means the hard disk has failed. Try reseating ( disconnecting it and then plugging it back in)  it to see if the error goes away.

  • How can I restore Windows 7 to Bootcamp partition - not reformat the entire hard drive?

    Hello Apple (Mac) Community,
I originally posted this question over on answers.microsoft, but no help was forthcoming. Hope someone can help me with a problem that's (almost) making me nuts! I teach graphics to college students. In brief: I run Windows 7 Pro 64 on a Mac Pro tower, along with Snow Leopard (OSX). Windows is loaded on one partition of a 1TB drive. The other partition is a Mac backup. The Mac OS is on a different drive. Everything was going swimmingly with both OS, until recently. Unfortunately, the drive with Windows showed problems and I determined that the HD was either toast or needed a total reformat. My Mac data was all backed-up. Now I wanted to backup Windows so I can easily get back to the relatively happy point of my Windows 7 experience (drivers loaded, dual monitors all working, etc.). I did some online searching and the recommendation was to create a "system image" of the existing Windows 7 install by attaching an external drive, formatting that to NTFS and selecting "backup to image" in Windows. I did that and also took the opportunity to "create a backup disc" on a DVD. (Windows recommended). Next I rebooted back to Mac OS and completely reformatted the problem 1TB disc to a single partition, zero all data, just to see if it would actually reformat. It all worked! So far, so good. Next I used Bootcamp to create two partitions, one for Windows. I then restarted using the Win7 Pro (64) install disc, reformatted the Bootcamp disk to NTFS (as required) and installed Windows 7. After all that is completed and all working, I next try to use the restore from image function while booted in Windows. I'm instructed to restart from the Win install disc, which I do. Here's where things get difficult. When I try to choose restore from image, at that point the installer asks which drives to I want to exclude... but does not show partitions, only full HDs. I do not want to reformat the entire 1TB drive. I only want Windows on the 120gb Bootcamp partition (which is already formatted for Windows BTW). I spent a lot of time online reading through articles with users having the same frustration.
So here (at long last) is my question: How can I either restore Windows just to a Bootcamp partition... using "Windows System Image" or if that can't be done... can I somehow import all of the settings, etc. from the "image" (image is on external HD) into a fresh Win 7 install? So far the "backup disc" also seems useless. I can't even boot to Windows from it. BTW Apple folks: the only response on the MS side was that some "expert" simply posted links on how to install Windows and restore... not helpful with my particular problem of restoring to a partition.
Any help would be appreciated! Hopefully some help that even a Mac user / new Windows user could understand would be better! Thanks!

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.

Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.

  • How do I restore Windows 7 in Boot Camp after the Lion Update?

I was hoping my Lion update would be as smooth as other users' - unfortunately, it has messed up Boot Camp. The partition is now "Lion Recovery HD". I would like to know:
if the original Boot Camp partition has been erased - i.e. I need to do a full reinstall
how to go about recovering my original partition (I did a backup of the partition prior to the Lion Update)
if my Windows 7 is an upgrade disk, will I need to install Vista first?
    Thank you!

That's my problem. I can't get into windows. I'm stuck in a loop where  when I press F8, it doesn't do anything. What I'm trying to figure out is if there is any way to system restore or refresh my windows partiton with my original install disk?

  • How to Restore Windows 8 if System Crashes

Okay I purchased three HP Pavilions (1 last month two last year) from Best Buy.  They did not come with Windows 8.1 Recovery Disk.  So how can I restore Windows 8.1 if my disk crashes?  How can I get the media and the product key for Win 8.1 for my systems?  Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
Nowadys computers won't come with installation and driver DVD's. Users have to create themselves. You can use HP Recovery Manager to create a set of discs (same for Windows 8.1):
        http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-x2-11/5296226/model/5336701/document/c03481733
    or use the following method:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrSq8AC5iMw
Note: the key is in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:
       http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
When run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8 or 8.1 product key is in there.
    Regards.

  • Restoring windows backup  to macbook pro

How can I restore windows backup on an external drive to my new MacBook Pro?

The only program I know of that can do it on a Mac is WinClone and that is run from the OS X partition while you are booted into OS X.
There may be others, or other ways. I just don't know of any.

  • Restoring Windows XP On My HP Pavilion ze5300

I have an old HP Pavilion ze5300 that was running Win. XP. I wanted to update the operation system so I called myself putting Windows Vista on it. I purchased the copy of Vista new, but used it once before. Unfortunately, this is a no no with Microsoft. Well I would like to put the copy of Windows XP back onto it. Can someone explain how I can restore windows XP back onto my HP Pavilion ze5300 without having to purchase another copy.
When my computer loads now it attempts to load MS Vista, but it asked me for the serial key for the software, when I enter it. I get a message telling me that I've used it once already. And I did. But I assumed for $79 I could use it again. I can't figure out how to restore XP. Please can someone help with this. Once again, I have a HP Pavilion ze5300.
    Thank you

Hello dlbutler922. I understand you'd like to recovery your original operating system, correct?
Did you format the entire hard drive? If the recovery partition is still there you could try performing an HP System Recovery. This document outlines the process. If you're notebook was purchased prior to 2008 let me know and I can try to locate more relevant information.
If you did delete the partition you'd need some form of recovery media. Since you likely don't have one you could try to speak with HP directly. However, they may no longer carry discs for your model if it is older. Give them a call at 1-800-474-6836 if you're in the US/Canada. For other areas you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to locate your contact information.
If your notebook has a sticker with a product on it (and you can read it) you could acquire a Windows XP disc and use that key to install it on your notebook. As long as you're using the key only to install on the notebook it was intended for you should be within the constraints of the license agreement.
I hope this information is helpful; have a great day!

  • After upgrading to Firefox 4 in my Windows XP desktop, how do I restore to Organize Bookmarks... selection, which is no longer visible in the Bookmarks menu or in any other menu?

Typo; should be "how do I restore the Organize Bookmarks... selection". This selection also does not exist when I manually change Firefox to show the new "Firefox" orange menu tab at the upper left corner of the Firefox window.

OK, that works. In addition, just before receiving your response, I discovered that History --> Show All History brings up the identical "Show All Bookmarks" Library popup that includes the export and import Bookmark options (which is what I was looking for all along).
If anyone from the Mozilla-Firefox organization reads this, please update Firefox Help concerning the Bookmark maintenance functions. Help still refers only to pre-Firefox 4 versions, and is no help here with respect to Firefox 4 (which is why I had to post my initial query).

  • Mac OS no longer available after trying to remove Windows on Bootcamp. How can I restore Mac OS without the Mac HDD in options?

Mac OS no longer available after trying to remove Windows on Bootcamp. How can I restore Mac OS without the Mac HDD in options?
So what I did was, I had bought my iMac from a shop and asked them to do bootcamp for me. However, they installed 32 bit instead of 64. My fault, I did not make my self clear about it. So after it has been delivered to my house, I realized that I wanted the 64 bit. I tried to remove windows on bootcamp but honestly, I have not experienced this before. So I failed. I believe, I did something wrong.
So I opened the iMac and it keeps asking me to go to windows. Windows OS also corrupted.
I tried the Option Key but the only option is Windows 7 only. So using a different keyboard, I press option and it only shows Windows HDD and the Mac HDD has gone.
What am I going to do? How can I restore Mac OS without the HDD anymore?

  • How to restore Windows boot after resizing system partition ?

I have an fairly new HP Pavilion 14-n228ca notebook which I intend to use mostly for Linux, but still wish to occasionally run the WIndows 8.1 that it shipped with.
I installed CentOS 6.5 using the dual-boot procedure I have used many times in the past with XP and Vista, viz. resize the main NTFS filesystem, delete the partition and recreate it smaller at the exact same start byte.
Normally (on XP,Vista) Windows boots from GRUB, but here I get an error "file \Boot\BCD - missing or contains errors"
F9 at boot gets me a hardware boot menu, where I have a choice of "OS boot manager", EFI file, or "notebook hard drive". The last gets me GRUB. The first drops me to a repair menu where I can try autorepair, which fails, or a command
    line.
The command line allows me to run diskpart and assign a drive letter to the system partition, at which point I can run chkfs successfully and access files.
If I try "bootrec /rebuildbcd" it finds one valid volume at \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HardDiskVolume4\Windows but then says "system cannot find the file specified"
How can I restore the ability to boot the Windows partition, preferably without messing up the Linux one ?

  • HT1349 I just purchased  new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded Itunes, but when I try to add my Music Library from the back up dvd's I created off my old computer it doesn't automatically start the back up process like it did before. How can I "restore"

I just purchased a new PC with windows 8.1 and downloaded new itunes, but when I try to "restore" my music library from the DVDS i made from my old pc it doesn't automatically restore my library as it used to.  How do I restore my music library from DVDS?

Thanks but I already did read all of the help notes, which aren't very helpful for this.  I did find out the problem- Apple.....they evidently changed one of the major upsides to their old software- being able to back up your entire library onto dvd's- so you can longer do that or restore from the dvds created from older versions of itunes.  I suspect greed is at play in that Apple now wants you to pay $24.95 per year to use a "cloud" service where they back it up for you.  I can buy a lifetime supply of back up dvds for one year's worth of cloud.  So I am now looking into other music software as I am Appled-out.  There is no reason for them to take away the back up portion of the software other than to sell you thrir cloud service.  As we have already given them a ton of money for 5 Ipods and a bunch of music, I think we have contributed enough.  Time to look to solutions outside of the Apple money tree.  But thank you for reading and replying.
