How do I retain playlists and playcounts in iTunes update 11.1.4.62?

I updated my iTunes to the new version 11.1.4.62 and it did not retain my playcounts and playlists I had created. I copied and renamed the iTunes Library folder before I did the download. I also have an XML document in my folder I copied as well. I also want to transfer all of the music I got from Amazon and other similar sites. None of these songs transfered after the new update.
Can I restore my computer to an earlier time or is there another way of transferring all of the songs with retained playcounts, playlists, etc.?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip Brenden. I did this before I attempted to download the new iTunes update. However, none of my play counts or playlists were saved. I also have a problem with none of my music I bought or downloaded from non-iTunes sources show up in iTunes after the new update.
I believe as a last resort, I am going to transfer my music from my iPod onto my computer. Is there a particular software that I can download or purchase that you recommend that will allow me to transfer the music in order for me to keep my playlists and play counts, etc.?
Thanks again for commenting to my original post.

  • How to keep my playlists and ratings in iTunes after reinstalling Windows ?

    Hi,
I would like to know how can I keep my playlists and ratings after reinstalling a fresh copy of windows.
    Thank you in advance,

You need to go to each device and make sure there is a wireless profile configured for the SSID, and then save it as the default wireless connection. This may be easier if you configure each device prior do disabling the SSID.

How do I tranfer playlist and all my music from my Ipod Touch to my pc?

Simply select only the Music that you want to sync to the iPad in iTunes. I assume that you auto sync.
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes if it does not start on its own. Assuming that you do auto sync, let the process complete. Click on your iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Music Tab in the iTunes window on the right side. Click on all of the albums, playlist, artists, - whatever - that you want to sync to the iPad, uncheck the music that you do not want to sync, make sure that the Sync Music heading is selected - and then click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • Saving Playlist and Playcount

Hi, I googled the answer to this one, but got some conflicting help so I'd figure this was the best place for help.
Can anyone give me an idiot proof, step-by-step guide to saving playlists and playcounts. I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 on Windows Vista. My C drive is about to totally crash and is on its last leg. For the sake of my whole computer I am just going to format and start over. But I'm sort of attached to my playlists and would really like to keep my play counts as well. Please let me know what I can do.
    Thanks!

They are stored in a file named iTunesLibrary.itl
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
It also stores the path to the music files. So when you rebuild your system, put the actual music files back in the same places they were before.
If you have been letting itunes manage everything and have been using the itunes defaults, all you need to do is back up the top-level itunes folder. It has the ITL file in it, and the music subfolders.
If you have files scattered around your hard drive, it's more difficult.
You need to consolidate your itunes library.
Don't forget to deauthorize your PC before you reinstall the OS.

I have the same problem.   It's showing old podcasts that are available for download and I already watched and I don't want to see them again and I don't want them listed in my iTunes.  This latest upgrade is a piece of junk so far.   It destroyed my itunes podcast listing on my Windows Machine.   I have no intentions of upgrading to iOS7 or my Mac until I hear that things are fixed.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

connect the Macs with a firewire cable. start the G5 in Target Disk Mode. copy the entire iTunes folder from the G5 to the music folder on the new machine (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
    fire up iTunes.
make sure you point iTunes to the correct media folder location via preferences > advanced

  • IMac G5 - How do all accounts see and play my itunes / music

Hi, This has been frustrating me for a while....
I have 40GB of music on itunes which is on my iMac G5 which plays in my account when I log on the computer.
The rest of my family have 3 accounts on the same computer, all have itunes but non of my tunes show...
How can they listen to my music, this is driving me crazy ?

    *David Smith18* wrote:
Does that mean then that I have 2 lots of data (80GB) or do I delete the original once copied... or can I just drag it there.. I have also seen on here the term "consolidation" should I do this ?
Library consolidation is really a feature for people that have content scattered all over their hard drive instead of within a single media folder (e.g., the iTunes Music folder). Unless you have media files in multiple locations, you do not need to concern yourself with consolidating. NOTE: media files may be contained within a folder structure within your music folder, such as what occurs when you have iTunes organize your music folder, because the music folder is the root folder for accessing media files. Consolidation becomes an issue when you have media files in the folder that iTunes recognizes as your music folder and then files in other folders (e.g., a folder for MP3s downloaded from Amazon).
Other than that, there are essentially four ways in which you can set up a public music library for sharing between user accounts. One thing that you should note is that sharing between accounts is not like sharing over a network; the feature that iTunes supports internally. With network sharing between computers the users accessing your library have read-only privileges. That is, they can navigate your library in various ways and play/watch content, but they cannot alter your library in any way; e.g., if they change a view that change only takes effect locally and not within your library.
With the shared library between accounts there is little you can do to prevent other users from altering the library.
*Set Up a Shared Library with Full Access Privileges*
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Move or copy your iTunes folder from ~/Music to ./Users/Shared
    3. Launch iTunes.
    a. If you copied your iTunes folder just launch into iTunes normally.
    b. If you moved your iTunes folder then hold the option key immediately after launching to invoke the Choose Library window then select the iTunes Library file now located in the Shared folder.
    4. Have each of your family members re-launch iTunes in accordance to 3b.
In this scenario, your family members will have full access privileges to the shared library. They will be able to add or remove playlists, change the status and tags for content, add/delete content, etc. From your standpoint, if you launch iTunes as per 3a because you copied your music library, you will still be accessing a private library, while your family will be accessing a shared library with similar content and structure. If you launch iTunes as per 3b, then you will be accessing the same shared library as your family.
*Set Up a Shared Library with Read-Only Access*
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Create a new iTunes folder in ./Users/Shared.
    3. Copy or move the contents of your iTunes folder to the new iTunes folder except for the iTunes Music folder. Do not move your media files into the Shared folder.
    4. Launch iTunes.
    a. If you copied the contents of your iTunes folder:
    — Launch iTunes normally.
    — Go into iTunes preferences Advanced tab and set the location of your iTunes Music folder to the location of the music folder on your account (e.g., ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music).
    b. If you moved the contents of your iTunes folder:
    — Launch iTunes the immediately hold the option key to invoke the Choose Library dialog and choose the iTunes Library file in the Shared folder.
    — Go into iTunes preferences Advanced tab and set the location of your iTunes Music folder to the location of the music folder on your account (e.g., ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music).
    5. Have each member of you family launch iTunes holding the option key and choose the shared library.
In this scenario, your family members will still have full access to the shared library, the iTunes Library database file, because it is in the Shared folder. They will not have full access privileges to the media files. So while they can change library settings and preferences (e.g., create new playlists, etc.), they cannot modify the media files (e.g., add or remove tracks, change ID3 tags, etc.) because iTunes will be linked to files that are on your account. If other accounts on your computer can access your files it will be as read-only files.
Again, how you transferred and access the library will determine if you retain a private library. If you moved your iTunes library, then you will need to access the same shared library as the rest of your family. If you copied your library, then you can continue to use your private library and not have to deal with any library structure changes that others have performed in the shared library.
*Something New in iTunes 8.0… Maybe*
In the past people had reported that the shared library feature in iTunes did not work across user accounts on the same computer. As I do not share my computer, I had no reason to put this to the test. Not being able to share a library using iTunes sharing feature may have changed, as I went into my emergency administrative account to check on something for you and saw the iTunes library from my primary user account listed under Shared libraries in the source list in iTunes on the second user account.
    As such, try this first:
    1. Go to the Sharing tab iTunes preferences.
    2. Enable “Share my library on my local network” and “Look for shared libraries”.
    3. Have your family members do the same in their user accounts.
    4. Now other user’s libraries should appear under the Shared heading in each of your source lists. +In order for this to (hopefully) work the source and target accounts must be active (do not logout) and connected to your home network.+
    5. By accessing your library in this way they can access your playlists and music, but they cannot in any way alter your library.

  • How do you combine artists and albums in itunes?

I just recently bought an iPod classic and am now using iTunes to edit my prolific library of music so that I can put it on my iPod.  I have much editing to do of songs, artists, albums, etc.  I am finding that some of my songs are broken up from the album they should be on, and yet the name of the album is the same and it still appears separate from the main album.  I also have some artists who are broken up as well, even though they have the same name.  How can I combine artists, albums, etc into one file?  I want all the songs from an album to be under one album and all albums to be under one artist, not two with the same name.  This was very easy to do in Windows Media Player but can't figure out how to combine songs to one album or combine artists to show up once under one file.  HELP!

If you are on a PC and want to sync photos to the iPhone this is how you do it. First, create a folder and place the pictures that you want on the iPhone in that folder. You can copy them, or move them into that folder, whichever. Once you connect the iPhone to iTunes, from the Summary screen, click on the tab for photos. In that section, tell iTunes what folder you want to sync to the phone. It is better to make the folder you want to sync in "My Pictures" that is located in the "My Documents" folder. iTunes automatically looks at the "My Pictures" folder and can sync all photos, or you can choose particular folders. I have a folder called iPhone pictures that is in the My Pictures folder, and I tell iTunes to sync just that particular folder.
    Hope that helps you.
