How do i retreive photo library after upgrading from '09 to '11?

I upgraded my ilife '09 to ilife '11 and seems to be that my old library is missing and all the photos.  I already owned a copy of Filesalvage which found the photos but were they completely unorganized.  How can i get the photos back and organized?

If you've had to recover them with File Salvage then you'll need to make a new Library and start over from scratch.
Wouldn't it be better to restore from your back up?

How do I get iphoto to upgrade photo library after upgrading os from snowleopard to yosemite?

    To add to OT's advice:
You may need to delete your current iPhoto from the Applications folder, if it is a version of iPhoto '11, before the App Store will allow you to download it from the main page.
To locate iPhoto at the AppStore, open the "Featured" tab and enter "iPhoto" into the search field.

  • Can't open my photo library after upgrading to iPhoto 11.  is it possible to load iPhoto 9.0.1 after loading 11?  have followed all other instructions but it still won't let me open iPhoto.

can't open my photo library after upgrading to iphoto 11.  Is it possible to download iphoto 9.0.1 after installing '11.  Have followed all the other instructions and am in a loop which doesn't allow me to access iphoto or my photos.

when iphoto wouldnt open we read the trouble shooting info and it said that we may have needed to download 9.0.1 if we had an older version.  We obviously didn't download it before the upgrade and wondered if it would cause problems or indeed solve the problem if we downloaded it now!
When we try to open iphoto is says:
To open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared
To prepare the library use the iphoto library upgrader available from Apple.
We have downloaded this twice now and it still sends us this message when we try to open iphoto.

  • I can't view my photo library after upgrading to version 9.1.3.. How do I fix?

I recently updated my iphoto to verson 9.1.3. Now when I open up the application, it says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade." It then gives me a option to click upgrade. Once I click it, It says I cant view my current photo library using this version of iphoto. It also says, You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. Then it makes me quit the app even though I have and am using the latest version of Iphoto. How do I fix this please?

That's an indication of a damage library.  Try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.db, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HT204655 How to have a unified Photos Library after migrated from iPhoto and Aperture?

The "HT204655: Get started with Photos for OS X" do not help. If you have previously used iPhoto and Aperture, when you "migrate" the iPhoto, then follow the steps to "migrate" the Aperture library, you end up with 5 files in your Pictures folder: Photos Library (from iPhoto), Photos Library 2(from Aperture), iPhoto Library (Not sure if can be deleted or not - of course no), Aperture Library (for some reason blank), Aperture Library 2 (Created by Photos?).
So, looks like a mess and no easy way to make a clean migration.
I've a hope that exists a solution to have a single Photos Library with the merged iPhoto and Aperture contents, like a real migration.
If I export everything (From iPhoto and Aperture) then import in the Photos in a single Library should work, but will lose all the organization, faces, etc...

You could merge libraries with iPhoto Library Manager, but I never tried this for merging Aperture 3 libraries with iPhoto 8.
Are you planning to keep all your photos in iCloud? Then consider to merge them in iCloud, but it will take a long time.
Are you using iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and have enough iCloud storage for the merged library?
Wait, till your current Photos Library has been completely uploaded to iCloud.
Then quit Photos, and launch it again, while holding down the alt/options key. Select the old iPhoto lIbrary.
When the upgrade of the old library has been finished, make this library the System Photos library (in the Photos Preferences > General).
Enable again iCloud Photo Library (Beta) in the Photos > iCloud preferences.
Now Photos will upload the new library to iCloud as well and create a merged library in iCloud. After this merged library synced with your Mac, you will have a merged Photos library.

  • I can't upload photos to facebook from the photo library after upgrading to iOS 8

AFter updating ios8 i can't upload photos from photo library to fcebook..even i can't upload photos with safari browser...what can i do now??

It is peculiar, that Chrome, Safari, and Skype can access FB, but not the iPhoto uploader.
Do you see any error messages/ diagnostics in the Console Window, when you try to connect to Facebook?
Launch a Console window from Applications > Utilities and clear the Console Window. Then try to upload. Are there any new messages?
And also launch a Terminal and have a look, if "facebook.com" is properly resolved:
    Type
    ping facebook.com
into the window. Do you see any transmissions? What is the IP address used?
    I see:

  • Lost photo library after upgrade to Lion -- please help me find it?

I have just upgraded to Lion, and started setup for iCloud.
I can't find my photo library on my Mac.
I tried upgrading to iPhoto 9.2, but the install didn't work -- got stuck on "searching for photos"
The photos do appear in iPhoto, but not in the library?
My backups on a separate hard disk may be ok, but I thought the library used to have the list of photos.  All I can see is the icon.  I hesitate to open anything, as I don't want to lose all of my photos....
    Please advise.

The photos do appear in iPhoto, but not in the library?
Please explain.  iPhoto displays photos from the iPhoto library - if you have photos in iPhoto then you have an iPhoto library
Are you trying to access your photos? You do not do that directly into the iPhoto library - that has never been a support access method - you use the media browser
What exactly are you trying to do?

  • How do I fix aperture 3 after upgrade from Aperture 2 to 3?

Hello. I have had a good search but can't find the answer.
    1. 2 days ago I made a full time machine of my mac
    2. local mac shop did a clean install from 10.5 to 10.6.8
    3. local mac shop then installed aperture 3
    4. I then tried to update my new 10.6 mac from the time machine (using migration assistant). All went well (the files are accesable), but the files do not exist in itunes, aperture, documents etc when logged in as the user created when installing 10.6.8.
The new OS has a diferent user/profile to the original one (I did not do the clean install of 10.6.8 and aperture 3, the local mac shop did). This meant I had permission problems, so I went into the original user (the one that the time machine had rebuilt) and added the new build user with full read wrire permissions.
How do I now add all my projects and photos from the original profile/user to the new one?
I havea 20 inch imac with 4 gb ram with 700gb hardrive of which 600gb is used and of that, 400gb is photos. I also havea a 4tb external drive I can use to switch things over with if required. That currently had data on it fromthe time machine backup under 10.5.
Any help will be really appreciated. Many thanks.

Do still have the Trial App installer disk image? Then just run the installer again and enter your serial number to unlock the application.
Also have a look, if you have an "Accept Purchases" tab in your App Store Window, and if you see Aperture there. Then click the "Accept" button and download it.
But if neither of these works, contact Apple Support (with proof of purchase) and ask for help - maybe they will provide a new installer. Aperture cannot be just copied - it needs additional files installed in the System Library, and only the installer will do that properly.
For me it worked to restore Aperture from a Time Machine backup using Migration Assitant and including the System Library and the Applications Folder into the migration settings. Then enter again the serial number. But that should only be the last ressort, for this way you will not have a clean install of your system.

  • How do I retrieve SMS messages after upgrade from iphone 4 to iphone 6

I lost my iphone 4 and so upgraded to iphone 6,  8.1.1.  During the process, all my test messages were lost.  Can I retrieve them?

Hello, thank you for your reply. My daughter backed up the 4 to itunes for me and then restored to the 4S from the backup on itunes, but it hasn't taken over my imessages, texts or my notes.
Unfortunately, I am technically challenged, so I don't know why it hasn't done this and now I'm wondering if I try the backup again, will it then go over the new messages that have come in? Ideally, I would like to be able to retrieve the messages from it before I restore the 4 so then my son can then have it.

  • HT4528 How do I restore all my photos? After upgrading my iPhone all photos were gone.

How do I restore all my photos? After upgrading my iPhone, all my photos were gone.

    What photos?
Photos taken with the iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as with any digital camera, most especially before any update or restore.  If you failed to do this, then they are likely gone.  You can try restoring from backup.
Photos synced from your computer should still be on your computer an in you regular backup copy of your computer.

  • Missing files - corrupt library after upgrade to 11.1.4

I updated iTunes to 11.1.4, and after launching, it looked like it was updating my library as it's done in the past.  However, this time, after an hour I realized it had not yet completed, and a dialogue box asking about creating an iTunes U playlist was on the screen.  I tried to do so, but it just kept repeating.  So finally I stopped it, and now I have an file marked iTunes library (damaged) and an incomplete library.  I am missing thousands of songs compared to the last .itl I have in Previous iTunes Libraries.
I thought when iTunes did an upgrade to the library it was supposed to make a backup? If so, and I did the upgrade yesterday, why is the most recent file in Previous iTunes Libraries dated from four months ago?
How can I repair the damaged .itl file, as the one iTunes is using now as, as I mentioned, missing thousands of songs now.
Is there any sort of script or utility I can use to figure out exactly which files are missing from the current .itl in my library?
    Thanks in advance.

No, you need to do the backup as part of regular computer maintenance and before you do any software upgrades.  iTunes moves the old library into the previous library area but perhaps your update failed before it did that.

Yes, there's one on the Dougscripts web site that will crawl through a library.  In yur case it's probably just as easy to drag the whole iTunes media folder to Automatically Add to iTunes.  Anything already in the library it will ignore.  Anything not there it will add.

Locate iPhoto Library (the default location is <~/Documents/Pictures/iPhoto Library>), select it, and choose File > Get Info.

  • How to save my photo library in a web service.

    Hello:
In first place sorry for my poor english...
I would like to know how to secure my photo library in a web service. I have 100gb free with my internet provider and i would like to use it. The problem is that i don´t know wich is the folder that i have to duplicate in the web and where to find it.
I´ve been looking in the apple help services but i only find help for mobile me or time machine.
    Thanks in advance...

If you want to back up your Library to the Web then you need to back up the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.
However, many people complain that it can take days for the upload - and in the event of a problem - download to restore.
