How do I retrieve data from my broken macbook hard drive?

My macbook suddenly crashed and I had to do a forced shutdown. When I tried to turn it back in, a folder with a question mark kept flashing and by computer did not start. I looked up what might have been the cause of this, and I found out it was my hard drive or the cable that connects the drive to the mac. But I brought it to my school since they have tech support and they said that my hard drive is pretty much dead, but it can still be possible to retrieve the data from. I really need help because I need to hand in my Extended essay in about one week and I already had done quite a lot for my essay. Please tell me how to get all my data back, or past it to a new hard drive.

No no, I backed up my computer about 1 month ago but I never thought anything will happen. My mac never crashed before and I just was not expecting anything bad to happen to it, but I agree it was stupid of me to not back it up in daily bases. But thanks a lot for letting me know that I can retrieve my data.

    Can I retreive data from my iPhone 4 hard drive without the sim?

    There is no hard drive in an iPhone, it is all solid state memory. If the phone is working you can always copy content from it. If it is not you will need to restore and activate it, and that requires a SIM card.

  • How do I get data from a pc external hard drive to my mac

    I am about to purchase an Air. I have an external hard drive I have used for years with my PC.  It has countless pictures and music.  How can I get that data from my PC external drive to my new Air and also to the Time Machine?

    Thank you for your reply.  It is a Western Digital external USB 3.0 formatted for PC.  It includes pics, videos, music, documents, power point, etc.  would it still just be a drag and drop?
    Thanks!

  • How do i copy data from a dvd to hard drive?

    I have a dvd of a recent event at my church.  It contains video clips and still photos in slideshow format.  How do I save it to my hard drive and then copy it to a new disc? I looked at this issue on previous posts from 2011 but the links to the solution do not work.

    Depending on the format of the content, you may need something like MPEG Streamclip (free) or Handbrake (free) to convert those videos into a format iMovie can read. Once converted, you can import them into iMovie, edit (if desired) and then export. You'd then need a burn software such as iDVD, Roxio Toast ($$) or Burn (basic, but free) to burn them onto another DVD.
    If you happen to have Roxio Toast, you can avoid all of that as it has the capability to copy video content from one DVD to another - just check their instructions; it's quite easy.

    how do i retrieve data from my external hard drive?

    If your hard drive can be detected and shows up as a drive letter in my computer but you can't access your files,then you can recover your data off it with data recovery software easily.This way is the easiest and the most inexpensive way to recover your data.If you bring it to a computer repair shop that is available for data recovery servise,they will cost you $500-1000 or more.Hmm, a lot of money.
    I managed to recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare Data Recovery.If needed,you can download it and scan your hard drive for free to preview whether your data can be recovered.It will show you thumbnails for recoverable pictures.

    What problem are you encountering?
    Normally you would connect it to your Mac and just drag and drop.

  • How do i retrieve data from a powerbook whose screen lights up but displays nothing? I have a firewire and a second powerbook...

    how can I retrieve data from my old powerbook? It's screen lights up, but displays only pixelated blankness. I have a second powerbook and a firewire cable....

    It would probably be correct to assume that both PowerBook computers are equipped with FireWire. The article below could possibly be of interest to you. With a bit of luck, the old computer will be recognised.

    Otherwise, it may become necessary to open the old PowerBook and remove the hard drive. The drive can then be connected to an appropriate external USB adapter, and read via another Mac.

    Hi,
    I use JRun tags but you can use Oracle tags or just JDBC... First u need to install jdbs connection and set e connection by using JMC (For JRun) named nomad.
    U can also try the link below for JRun tags..
    http://wds.its.uiowa.edu/cache/docs/jrun/html/JRun_Custom_Tag_Library/contents.htm
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*,javax.sql.*,java.text.*,allaire.taglib.*" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="jruntags" prefix="jrun" %>
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-9" %>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title> Test Page </title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-9">
    </head>
    <body>
    <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" LEFTMARGIN=15 TOPMARGIN=20 >
    <jrun:sql datasrc="nomad" id="q1">
    select empno,
         ename
    from emp
    order by ename
    </jrun:sql>
    <center>
    <table border = 0 cellpadding = 3 cellspacing = 1>
         <th>EmployeeNo</th><th>Name</th>
    <jrun:param id="q1" type="QueryTable"/>
    <jrun:foreach group="<%= q1 %>">
                   <tr>
                   <td> <%= q1.get(1) %> </td>
                   <td> <%= q1.get(2) %> </td>

    </jrun:foreach>

  • How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive

    How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one?
    I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

    Do you already have Time Machine making backups onto the 2TB drive? If so, after you get the internal drive replaced, boot up into the recovery partition (hold down ⌘R) and restore the latest Time Machine backup that you have onto the new internal drive.
    I recommend always having two backups. I'd use SuperDuper to make a complete clone of your internal drive onto an external drive in addition to having the Time Machine backup.
    Boot Camp is what is used to make partitions for Windows. How much space to allocate depends on how much space you expect Windows to use up based on how you plan to use it.

    how do i transfer data from my old macbook to a new macbook pro?
    i have an ether net cable will this help?

    I've used Migration Assistant in the past and it's working like a champ. You either want to connect your MBPs using a Firewire cable or have them connected to the same router with Ethernet cabling. Don't attempt a wifi transfer - it could take a whole day.
    Both links provided are good - they both point to various ways to transfer data. I just prefer MA.

    Everything you need to know, right here. Make sure you read through it BEFORE you turn on the new Mac for the first time. This is because the preferred means is using Setup Assistant, which is only available form the first boot.

  • Recovering data from a newly formatted hard drive

    Has anyone had any experience with programs that recover data from a newly formatted hard drive?  There seem to be a lot of programs out there to do this, but, a) do they work, and b) which one worked best for you?

    Ive had so and so success with a freeware utility called "Recuva"
    http://www.recuva.com/
    Its from the makers of CCleaner.
