How do I retrieve Lightroom access after a power outage?

The power went out while I was uploading RAW files from my memory card to Lightroom 5 and now I'm getting an error message that reads "Lightroom encountered an error while reading from it's preview CACHE and needs to quit.  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches." I rebooted the computer twice and I still get this message.  I click out of the message and Lightroom closes out so I can't access anything in Lightroom right now. Help please!

Delete the preview cache (it's a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA)

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 and after a power outage my usb ports on the back of the tower do not recognise the apple usb keyboard upon start up. If I leave the plug out and then insert the keyboard after start up it works fine. The same happens with the front usb ports. How do I fix this issue?

I've lost internet connection after a power outage; how do I restore?

Check with your internet provider for help.  Your modem or router could have been damaged if they did not come on after the outage.  If your modem and router look OK all you should have to do is restart your iMac.

  • How to get Mavericks server that is connected to a UPS to restart automatically after a power outage.

This is driving me crazy. Is there anyone running Mavericks as a mission critical server on Backup Power Supplies that has a way to get the servers to restart automatically after a power outage. The UPS vendors all have software for Windows, but not Macs, and the setting in System Preferences, doesn't work with the UPS's Iv'e tried (2 different APC models (Smart and Back-UPs), one Triplite (Smart) and one CyberPower, (all claiming to be Mac compatible))

APC do apparently still do a command-line daemon (PowerChute Network Shutdown) which monitors over the network the UPS and will cleanly shutdown the Mac. For lower-end UPS devices these are typically connected via a USB cable and the built-in Apple System Preferences let you control the options - if it is a model supported. There is however a big limitation of using a USB connection which is that you can only connect a single computer to a UPS via USB and of course most companies have multiple servers.
It maybe that what is happening even if you use APC's software is the following -
    Power failure detected by UPS
    Signal sent to Mac
    Computer does a clean shutdown
    Power restored
UPS has no way to tell Mac because it is shutdown and Mac does not support 'Wake on LAN' if fully shutdown
The Mac does have an option to 'Startup automatically after a power failure'. However this might only take place if the Mac is not cleanly shutdown, it could be that if the Mac is cleanly shutdown it does not count this as a power failure. If this is correct then there is nothing that can be done as users to resolve this, the only way it could be resolved would be if Apple provided a way for a tool like APCs software to both do a clean shutdown and set a flag as this being due to a power failure so that when the Mac does detect the power being restored it triggers the Mac in to booting.
In the dim and distant past when Macs used ADB to connect keyboards and mice the ADB interface did support an external power-on signal. This does not exist for USB.
Personally I have regarded the APC software (PowerChute Network Shutdown 3.0.1) to be so badly supported and so old as to be too risky to use. It lists 10.7 and 10.8 but not 10.9 and uses Java 1.6 which itself is unsupported. There is a third-party tool you might want to look at called NUT (Network Ups Tools) see http://www.networkupstools.org
NUT is free and lets you do clever things like -
Connect a single computer via serial or USB to the UPS
Act as a 'server' over the network to other computers sharing the UPS
When power failure is detected the NUT 'server' sends a signal to the NUT 'clients' so all of them know that there is a power failure and can do their own clean shutdowns
This gets round only being able to connect a single computer via USB.

  • Lost my MS Outlook files after a power outage.

Need help recovering my MS Outlook settings and folders after a power outage.  MS Outlook a part of the MS Office and Business Software for 2011 Mac.

How do I go about doing that?
You would repeat the same exact process that you used when you originally configured the AirPort router when it was new, just out of the box.
Open Macintosh HD >  Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Continue to follow the guided setup
You can use the same AirPort name, device password, wireless network name and password that you used previously, or change the names and passwords if you wish.

  • HT202157 Apple TV says it is updating date and time after a power outage here.  But nothing happens.  The wheel just keeps spinning.  What do I do to be able to use my apple tv?

Apple TV says it is updating date and time after a power outage. But the wheel just spins and nothing happens..  The software is updated and my wifi router is on and working fine and recognized by the Apple TV.  How do I get Apple TV to work again?

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately "Restart" did not change the situation.  I then used the "Restore" option.  After about 45 minutes of the unit going through the process, Apple TV was up and running again.

  • After several power outages, there is only a white screen, an apple in the center and a time strip after the strip is complete it turns it self off what is this problem

I have a 27in Mac desk top, its about a 2009, after several power outages and the computer pluged up and on now when turn it on it shows a white screen, apple in the center and a time strip toward the bottom when the time strip goes to the end of the cycle it shuts its self off.
The only thing we have tryed which was from a forum which was simular problem was, command-option-p-r, hold them down til the screen was back up, we try several times it did not work, please, please some-one help we use this computer for our job.

Also the trick you used, is known as resetting the PRAM. Not always the best of ideas for Macs older than 4 years.  But I'm glad it worked for you.  There is a battery which will eventually need replacing inside that would actually make that technique stop your Mac from working until replaced.

  • Apple TV I have to re-start after every power outage.  Is this normal?  I have gen 3

After all power outages.  I have to re-set my Apple TV.  Is this normal?   I have had this device for 8 months and its become a pain!

Many thanks guys for the response. there are still problems that i didn;t put here: 1: Storage (USB) is really slow; 2: Config restore is not working (I used to think this is not a problem while i changed my mind after reading some of the search results of the product); 3: Device will get back to work after power outage ONLY if you leave everything to be factory default, as long as you changed ANY setting, you lose your connection after power break. I will return this piece, and go back to D-link. I bought this router for my boss and i can not afford losing my job because of it. Sorry for this decision in Linksys forum, but, it leaves me no choice.

  • Wrt1900ac (I changed the local ip of the router after a power outage)

I changed the local ip of the router after a power outage, which brings me a lot of trouble because I have everything set up based on a class C network (192.168.1.x) and I changed it to a ip Type A (10.xxx), someone happens the same there any solution ?

Hi juanmanuelvazquez. Have you tried to do a hard reset to the unit and reinstall it from scratch?  I suggest that you do so as power interruption normally brings the router back to default settings thereby messing up the network. To do the proper reset, please press down the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds while the device is powered on. Release the button and unplug the device. Reinstall everything from scratch.
    Hope that helps.

  • My printers are missing after a power outage.

This is now the 4th time this has happened, but this time I have at least what I believe to be a cause. After a power outage of about 30 seconds this past thursday all of my printers attached to my imac have disappeared. Not only this, but when attempting to even press cmd p from any program that I could possibly print from slows down the system to a crawl, and eventually crashes. When going through system preferences the printers menu takes about 10 minutes even come up, and when it does, it's empty. When attempting to add a printer back the system once again slows to a halt eventually not responding. I've tried restarting multiple times, making a new user account (which worked for about 3 months the previous incident happened.) The only thing that has fully fixed this problem in the past was to re image the computer.
    Any help would be great.

Try resetting the printing system OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
if that doesn't help you may need to reinstall OS X. Consider getting a UPS if power outages are that common in your area.

  • I am going to have to restore my iTunes to a prior date, how can I retrieve apps purchased after the chosen restore date?

I appear to have "lost" many of the songs, and videos, in my iTunes.  The songs/videos show, but  when I attempt to access them, it says it can't find the file and offers to search.  In the search the song/video shows, but is greyed out.  If I restore I tunes to a prior date, how do I retrieve apps that were purchased after the chosen restore date?
    Thanks,
    Dale

Icloud is made up of many services.  you may choose to use or not use any or all of these services.  One of the many services it provides is that it allows you to redownload past purchases.
"I prefer to keep all of my information on my Mac, and a local backup drive."
As you should.  That is why, if you have lost your comtent, you should redownload that lost content from icloud to your computer and back it up, using the directions I provided to you.
"lso, I don't recall setting up a iCloud account. "
Does not matter at all. You do not need an icloud account.  Forget you ever heard the word icloud.  Perhaps if we stop using that word, you will understand.  Itunes now allows you to download your past purchases again - instead of the one download only rule that has existed orior to now.  You can download your purchases to your computer again.
You seem to be getting hung up on the word icloud, so imply forget you heard it.
Follow the direction in the link I provided to download the songs, etc that you have lost.  Once downloaded, they will once again reside on your computer where you can back them up and sync them to device as you always have.
    nothing at all changes.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I retrieve my contacts after my phone froze?

Today I was unable to access my Messages App, therefore switched phone off, waited a while and turned it back on, only to find it upon turning it back on, all my contacts had beeen deleted. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the iPhone 4S? As I was not expecting this to happen, I have not backed up contacts or other data via iTunes or iCloud. However, upon viewing other responses it would appear iCloud does not store your contact information or any other information for that matter.
How can I retrieve my contact info without it being stored anywhere? Is it best to take to an Apple Outlet??
    Cheers

You should have been syncing your contacts with your computer from the very beginning.  Did you fail to do this?

  • How do I retrieve lightroom database?

Lightroom 3 was shutting down unexpectantly and from an advice at this forum I moved the preferences folder to the desktop (from the library)
the lightroom opened allright but was completely empty, how do I retrieve the database. I couldn´t save catalogues because it always shut down before I could do anything.
Please help, am in dire straits here. need photos that were numbered and processed to work with.

You have to find your most recent catalog. The unexpected shutdown would have prevented LR to write the most recent changes to the catalog but these would be only a few. LR writes changes into the catalog without you having to <save>.
There are two ways to open your most recent catalog:
    a) if you know where your catalog is on the hard drive, open LR - it will come up empty - and go >File >Open catalog. Then navigate to your catalog and click on it.
    b) If you do not know where your catalog is you have to find it - in Mac Finder or Win Explorer.
The catalog is the file with the ending <... .lrcat>. See here where you will find the catalog for different OS: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84313.html
When you have found the .lrcat file just double-click it and LR will open with it.
LR will rebuild the preference file on its own but you might have to set your preferences again in >Edit >Preferences.
It is generally a good idea to know where LR puts the catalog. Go >Edit >Catalog Settings >General tab and this will show you the location - provided that LR has opened with a catalog.
Also, it is a good idea to have a backup catalog. Go  >Edit >Catalog Settings >General tab and at the bottom select <Every time LR exits>. Next time you close LR the backup dialog will come up that lets you choose a backup location.
