How do i retrieve my legacy filevaulted user?

So, here's what happened. I have an early 2008 black macbook. it was running lion. Then, last saturday, I had to force it to turn off and, after that, I wasn't being able to sign into my account again. It entered an infinite loop. I tried everything, but i ended up formatting my macbook hd and performed a clean install of lion. I had it all backed up with time machine on an external hard drive, so i didn't worry much. The problem is, my account was encrypted with legacy filevault. After the fresh intall of lion, i finally got my macbook to work again, but now i can't restore the files from my previous account. I have no other macs and i can't find any sparsebundle files on my time machine backup. What can I do to restore the files from my legacy filevaulted account on my external hard drive? I know the files are there because when i open migration assitant, the user appears, but it can't be transfered because a message appear saying filevaulted users are not transferable. Please help. I have a lot of files from two years of university, and i can't lose them.

• How can I retrieve selected checkboxes by user into a JPA application?

Hello, I'm developing an app in JPA, still learning this, I'm displaying some checkboxes which I save into a List, then I separate the selections and put them into an Array, which I convert into String and that's what I store into MySQL table, this is what I have on the index.xhtml file:
<h:selectManyCheckbox value="#{employee.selectedItems}">
<f:selectItems var="checkList" value="#{employee.checkboxList()}" itemValue="#{checkList.idTechnology}" itemLabel="#{checkList.name}"></f:selectItems>
</h:selectManyCheckbox>
The method checkboxList is in charge of generating the checkboxes and assign a value and name, and the method "selectedItems" is the List<String> that stores the selected checkboxes values, so what I save into the table is something like this: "1,4,6,7" but I don't know how to retrieve the selections and check the checxkboxes according the what the user have on the table:
This is the method that I use to select all the records from the selected user, this fills all the textfields so I can edit the user, but not the checkboxes, and that's what I need to do:
public void seleccionarEmpleado(int id_empleado){
Query q = em.createNamedQuery("Employee.findByIdEmployee");
q.setParameter("IdEmployee", IdEmployee);
List<Empleado> listaEmple = q.getResultList();
for(IdEmployee emple1 : listaEmple){
emp.setIdEmployee(emple1 .getIdEmployeeo());
emp.setName(emple1 .getName());
emp.setLname(emple1 .getLname());
emp.setTel(emple1 .getTel());
emp.setAddress(emple1 .getDir());
emp.setTech(emple1 .getTecha());
Variable Tech is the one who gets the numbers like "2,3,4" etc, but how can I make the checkboxes to be checked according to these numbers? my english is not so good, thanks in advanced, have a nice day!

• How to log into Mountain Lion if the FileVault user can't unlock the drive?

I have a computer that has the FileVault user not able to decrypt the drive. I've read on how to get into the machine and have successfully done so a few times. This has been accomplished by creating a new Admin user, deleting the original user, recreating it as a clean new user. Each time I give the computer back to the owner and he tries to restore from a backup. The problem is, he restores and it creates the same problem.
The most recent time he did this, I could not for the life of me figure out how to create a new user. When I try to log in as the FileVault user I get the "unable to log into filevault user account at this time" error.
The only way I could figure out how to get another admin user created so that I could delete his user was to reinstall the OS. Is that the only way this can be done?

I don't think Verizon will release the username and password to the camera administration to prevent people from doing what you want to do.
Even if you have the username / password, I would imagine there is a hefty equipment charge if you don't return the camera, which will make it cheaper to just buy a camera in retail stores.

I have downloaded IOS7 on my iPhone and all calendar events have disappeared. The general functions of the calendar have changed and are definitely not 'user friendly'. How can I retrieve my calendar events. Will Apple improve the calendar function or revert to the previous system. Even the typing function on IOS 7 is faulty - very slow to respond to the keyboard. I no longer enjoy using my iPhone. Can anyone assist. Thank you

Very strange! All of my calendar events have reappeared. This has happened one week after downloading iOS 7
The calendar however, is not easy to use.
The typing function on the phone has become even slower. Have to wait for each letter to show on screen.

• How does workflow retrieve users under position/job when sending email

Dear All:
This question is after my thread before: 'How does workflow retrieve users under an org. unit when sending email", my further question would be how to get users under a position/job.
I find the evaluation path 'WF_ORGUS' that is delivered by SAP, and I am wondering whether it will cover all my cases: to retrieve users under an org. type including org. unit, position and job.
Thanks in advance!
Haifeng Hu

Hello,
Okay, I misunderstood. You don't get to specify the evaluation path - if you fill in a Position then SAP fetches the users in that position. It works, so I haven't thought about it any further. Any reason you want to know exactly how it is done?

How do i retrieve documents a friend wrote on guest user on my laptop, it was saved then shut down.it has now gone, Please help?

Hey lulucountry22,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to find a document on a guest user. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
OS X Mavericks: About users, administrators, groups, and guests
Files created by a guest are stored in a temporary folder, but this folder and its contents are deleted when the guest logs out.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I want to install Adobe Reader for an attachment that I cannot open. The Keychain comes up with password. I forgot my password how do I retrieve it?

You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

• How can I turn off legacy file vault when it needs additional 170 GB free on a HD that is only 250 GB?

I am trying to migrate to a new Macbook Pro (OSX 10.8.3) and I cannot migrate files over from my prior Macbook Pro (OSX 10.7.5) because of legacy file vault being on. When I try to turn off Legacy Filevault on old computer, it says I need to free up 170 GB of HD space. I only have a 250 GB HD to begin with! I don't see how I can possibly free up that much space. I need help!

Use a external storage drive and copy all your users files there, then Trash > Empty Trash the originals, then reboot and try Filevault again.
Most commonly used backup methods
Note that any +4GB sized files will not transfer to a FAT32/MSDOS external drive many are formatted too.
You first need to change the format of the drive and in doing so, will erase all data on it.

• How do i retrieve file not found music

how do i retrieve file not found music

According to your post, you're using Leopard, so FileVault only encrypts your user folder (unlike Lion). On the mounted external drive, in your user folder, you should see a file called username.sparsebundle, with username being your user name. Double-click that file to open it and it should prompt you for a password. Type in your password and the file will mount as a volume in Finder. You should be able to copy all of your files over.

• Lion Legacy Filevault WHOOPS

The following describes a serious Lion security flaw & asks how to make Apple aware of it...
When Lion mounts a legacy FileVault sparse bundle at user login, the system logs the following to /var/log/secure.log (hostname and actual password changed for security reasons):
Apr 11 19:39:35 hostname authorizationhost[1240]: DEBUGLOG | -[HomeDirMounter mountEncryptedHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] | about to call DIHLFVMount. urlAttribute = /Users/.username/username.sparsebundle, password = password-here-in-plain-text, mountPointParent = /Users, homeDirPath going to the DIHLFVMount call = /Users/username
Lion should not be writing the username and password to disk! This is a serious security problem that renders an encrypted legacy FileVault useless because it makes the password available to anyone that can read the secure.log file.
How does one write a problem ticket to Apple to make them aware of this?

This is really severe!
I have removed the file and pointed symlink to null device - this prevents writing anything to the file (at the cost of losing other security related information from this log file).
In case anybody wanted to do the same here's what you need to paste to the Terminal.app:
f=/var/log/secure.log && sudo rm $f && sudo ln -s /dev/null $f
and type your password.
(not sure, but sudo only works if you have password set and you're on an admin account)

• I recently uploaded 10.8, but I have a number of VALUABLE old files which I can no longer read because "power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I retrieve them?

I recently uploaded 10.8, but I have a number of VALUABLE old files which I can no longer read because "power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I retrieve them"?

Here is a post I assembled for another with a similar problem:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Workarounds:
1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Upgrade to an Intel compatible versions of your software, or find alternatives that will open your data files;
3. Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:
[click on image to enlarge]
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2: Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

• After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external back-up? Following Apple advice for use of Migration Assistant did not work creating similar issues leading to clean install.

After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external hard drive?
Following Apple advice I used Migration Assistant which crashed new system twice which is why I had to clean install Lion in the first place.
Is there a sure way of doing it?
I have only a few programs that I will have to install myself and that should not be a problem.
I just want my data, music and photos back where I can use them.

Time machine backups. I went to migration assistant a few hours ago and limited my selection to "users", no need for applications, settings and other files. Stuff started moving over at a fast pace but has now seemed to stall.
I will let it run overnight as there are lots of songs and photos as well as a few movies.
If that does not work, then I will go into TM and try restore. I have restored some things in the past such a mail files and it has worked well.
The Apple fellow at the store told me to go right into TM, he may have had a point. I'll get it eventually.
