How do I return my iPod?

I've had my 4th Generation 20 GB iPod for about 9 months now and am not at all happy with its dismal battery performance. I go through the day and it only lasts up to 4 hours. I've done apple's 'official' battery test numerous times and at most, it gets 6 hours. My question is, how do I go about sending my iPod back?

Air,
There are several things you can do to assure that the battery play time is at the maximum, completely unrelated to Apple's battery test. However, since you are intent on sending the iPod to Apple, rather than trying something else, I won't interfere.
Your frustration has blinded you to some very good input from another poster. Take a deep breath...
The VERY first thing you must do is to go to the CANADA support page. If you do that, things will work properly - I just tested it.
Despite what another poster offered, the iPods are not repaired in the US.

  • How do I switch my ipod to a new computer without losing all of my songs?

My computer just crashed and I bought a new one downloaded iTunes then plugged in my iPod to sync all of my content to my new comp. and it won't let me do it without erasing all of my content which I neglected to back up. How do I get my iPod's content onto my new computer without it being backed up?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Has anyone returned an iPod for a gift card

Hi everyone. Apple was kind enough to return my 3 week old refurbished iPod video so I could get a new one. Now I am iPodless! I was planning on getting a new iPod right away when I got my Gift Card. Seel, I bought the iPod using a gift card. Now they are saying it will take 2 weeks to get the gift card! This seems a little crazy to me. Has anyone returned an iPod for a gift card who can tell me how long I should expect it to take? Where do they ship the gift card from? I sent my iPod to somewhere in California, and I live in California. I don't see how it could take more than 2 or 3 days. Maybe I am missing something? The return policy says they send the gift card within 2 days of receiving the iPod. I'm sure someone has done this.

    Your post is confusing.
Apple was kind enough to return my 3 week old refurbished iPod video so I could get a new one.
Do you mean they let you return it and get your money back?
Not sure what you mean by a gift card?

  • How do I fix my iPod touch 5 gen after repeated crashes after ios 7.1 update?

I updated to ios 7.1 on my iPod touch 5 gen and it repeatedly cycled through apple restored screen, a black screen and a ding for around 12 hours until I could restore my ipod. I restored my ipod again and it happened again. I restored it a third time and got most of my apps on it. It started repeatedly crashing again only this time including flashing the slide screen. When I could use the slide screen I would try to enter my passcode but it would repeat the crashing behavior all over again. I restored my ipod again but haven't put any extra apps on it. I really need help here otherwise it's nothing more than an expensive paper weight. I can't afford to replace it and I'm not sure it's still under best buy warranty.

It's me again, same problem, new ipod.
I updated my iPod Touch 5 gen, March 19, 2014 and my ipod kept cycling through the apple screen and a black screen, that kept going for 12 hours until I could do a complete restore. I have restored that iPod at least 7 times and it would freeze up around the 25 to 30 g area. Then it would cycle through the apple screen, the black screen, the slide screen and once in awhile it would show the lock screen.
My iPod was still under my best buy protection plan so I returned it. Now the new one I have have to restore 3 times and it cycled through the same screens at the approximate area. So I am now trying from an older back up. If that doesn't work then I will try starting with the apps that I'm trying to install when it crashes. If that doesn't work then I'm returning the ipod and starting with a 3rd one.
I have a system of how I restore apps, first I restore everything but the photo and game apps, then the photo apps, and last the game apps. I install around 150 to 230 or so at a time.
Can anyone help me with this? To me ios 7.1 has killed 2 iPods. The first one worked perfectly before the update.
Please help I'm so very frustrated.

  • HT1349 how can you track you ipod with only serial number ]

    2nd Generation ipod Touch

    Hello, Tommyty,
I am sorry you have lost your iPod.  You don't yet seem to understand that its serial number is not tracked electronically.  Here is my attempt at explaining the same thing that Limnos and stevejobsfan0123 have already told you.
Tommytj wrote: ... HT1349 how can you track you ipod with only serial number ] ...
Only by physically looking at the iPod's serial number.
Tommytj wrote: i need to find my ipod can anyone help me find a way to track my ipd touch with only a serial number using icloud.
    No.
Nobody can help you with that request because iCloud and  "Find My iPod touch" do not work that way.
If you cannot see the iPod, you cannot track its serial number.  Unless someone sees the serial number, nobody can track it.
Regardless of whether you have properly installed and enabled "Find My iPod touch", iCloud does not track your iPod's serial number.  This is true even when you or someone else can see your iPod's serial number.
Regardless of how much you wish iCloud could track your iPod's serial number, it cannot.
"Find My iPod touch" can sometimes track an iPod's location but only under the specific circumstances Limnos has already explained to you.
If "Find My iPod touch" cannot locate your iPod by its location, there is no iCloud way to find it.  In that case, the only way to identify your missing iPod is for you or someone else to physically look at it.
Perhaps you will be successful with one of these alternative possibilities for recovering your iPod:
      • you can physically search and find your misplaced iPod
      • someone may it returned in response to a reward that you offer
      • the police may find it after you have reported it stolen

  • New Computer - How do I transer my IPOD contents?

I've recently bought a new laptop (OS Windows Vista) and downloaded iTunes from the web. My problem is that I do not know how to download all the music and podcasts from my IPOD video to my new laptop. My original iPod account was set up on my old computer. Everything is on iTunes on my old laptop. I need to move everything to my new laptop asap. Please anyone help me! (Also, how can you command the Ipod to override the contents on iTunes at synching?) Thank you!

Connect your iPod to your computer. You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

How do you actavate a Ipod if you you dont know the previous owner?

If you are talking about an iPod 5th generation with iOS 7, there is no way to activate the iPod without knowing the passcode or having the prior owner deactivate their Apple ID associated with the iPod.  If you cannot return the iPod, you have purchase an expensive thin brick.  See: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818

    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police. The plocie will dolittle except if they recover it they can return it to you.
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

how do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?  can they share apps and music etc. I'm not very good at any tech so advise would be much appreciated.

Yes. You can sync an unlimited number of iDvies that you control to one iTunes library/account. If using the same iTunes library on the same comutr just make sure that yu go to the ap. music and other pane for the iPod in iTunes and select sycn selected items. Not the the whole library.  That way each iPod can have it own contents.
