How do I reverse a Firefox update?

I don't like Firefox 8. How can I reverse the update?

Uninstall firefox completely. Using another browser, search "Firefox 3.6". Download. Take care to never update to firefox 8, only to firefox 3.6.21 etc.

If you still need to downgrade to the version you were using before the upgrade, there is a website (linked on the page I just asked you to check out) listing the older versions. You might be successful in reverting back to an older version by installing Firefox from that page.

  • How do I uninstall the Firefox update on my Eee PC 900?

When I installed the Firefox update for my Eee PC 900 Netbook it worked fine until a couple weeks ago when lots of problems started. First, Firefox wouldn't let me open up two windows without Firefox crashing. Also, the bookmarks is not working and so is the screen capture.

Hi, Alex! Did you update Firefox or an extension? Do you remember what the dialog said for your update?
I ask because the Eee PC generally has system-wide updates for Firefox and doesn't use the internal Firefox update mechanism. The version that you're using - 3.0.4 - is quite old. I don't have one here to test, but there are probably tools in the system menu that will let you update, add and remove programs.

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • How do I reverse a recent update to Acrobat 9 Pro?

After a recent update to Acrobat 9 Pro, PDF documents do not diplay properly. The resolution is very poor, and bold fonts are too dark. These documents display properly (and as before the update) in Acrobat 9 Reader. How can I fix this or return to a previous version?

That's it! Page Display/Smooth Text was set to None. I have changed it to Laptop/LCD with all options
checked, and it looks as it should. I have never touched that setting, so I'm wondering if the update
did something to change it. I am also getting dialog boxes re Accessibility settings, which never come
up before. Thanks so much for this simple and very effective fix!

  • How do I reverse an auto update? mainly a java update

On 6/13/12 there were a few "automatic" updates - one of them was
    a JAVA for MAC OS X 10.6 update 9
       (updating Java SE;6 to 1.6.0_33)
Ever since this was installed - I can no longer access a site that
has worked for some time now.  It is a USCG Auxiliary site containing
a database application that is extremely important for me.
Can this be "fixed" or can I UN-INSTALL the update?
    Thanks
    DJ1

In general, you should not avoid installing or 'undoing' this or any other update that improves the security of your Mac. If you do, you leave it vulnerable to publicized security weaknesses that might be exploited by some malware author, in this case several weakness in the security of the Java runtime environment. (See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5319 for more about that.)
As X423424X mentioned, the update has turned Java off in web browsers. Reenable it as he suggests by checking the box in Java Preferences, as shown below:
Note that you have to quit & relaunch the browser for the change to take effect.

  • Firefox update page keeps opening in a new tab every time I open Firefox. How do I stop this?

Every time I open up Firefox, the update checking window opens first, then I get 2 tabs that open. One is my home page, the other is the page that opens after a new version of Firefox is installed. How can I get the Firefox update page to stop opening? I had the same thing happen with the "Download Helper" add-on. The only way I could get it to stop was to disable it. I am running windows 7 and Firefox 9.

  • How do I reverse the update to Safari 4.1?

I have a PowerMac G5 running under Mac OS 10.4.11.
I allowed Software Update to download and install the version 4.1 of Safari Sunday night. Monday night I found that links on a website in 1 of my tabs that open to a new window do NOT return to that tab when closed, instead they return to the rightmost tab. I also found that links in a website in a different tab that open in that tab are NOT marked as read when the original webpage is returned to. Neither of these bugs were happening before the update and both of them make it difficult to navigate the internet. How do I reverse the update until Apple fixes these bugs? (That update didn't corrupt my preferences, did it? They never have before but there is always a 1st time for everything.)
I did try deleting Safari from the Applications Folder and installing Safari version 4.0.5; however, version 4.0.5 wouldn't install since it claimed that a newer version was already installed, even though there was no Safari installed on my computer at the time. (I wasn't about to delete my Preferences and bookmarks. I have no desire to set up Safari from scratch! If necessary I can get my latest offsite backup, which might have a backup of my Preferences Folder, but I don't think I backed up that folder on that 1, but the previous 1 does have it, though that is several months old.)
Any help would be appreciated, though Apple's not posting buggy software would have been the best solution. (Though they don't do as bad as Bill Gates company does!)

Thanks for offering to help, kisuke3.  Unfortunately, neither safe mode nor a new user account solves the problem.
I just received this information from the Chemical Abstracts Service that provides the web-based SciFinder chemical structure and literature search software.  I'm not using OS X Lion, so I'm not sure if the comment about Safari 5.1 being "unable to run Java-based applications" applies under OS 10.6, but it might explain my problem?  I plan to check the links below, and they might help others having difficulty under OS Lion.
"On July 20, 2011, Apple Inc. released new versions of their desktop
operating system, Mac OS X Lion (version 10.7), and their Internet
browser, Safari (version 5.1). Currently, Safari 5.1 is unable to run
Java-based applications like the SciFinder structure drawing editor.
This problem is not restricted to SciFinder.
Customers who have upgraded to Safari 5.1 and wish to draw and search
structures or reactions in SciFinder should either use Firefox or a
previous Safari version until this browser problem is addressed by
    Apple.
Mac OS X Lion is the first Apple OS upgrade to ship without a built-in
Java runtime extension (JRE). SciFinder users who have upgraded to Mac
OS X Lion can download the latest Java JRE from the Apple website at
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421. Users can validate their Java
    installation by checking this website:

  • Mozilla Firefox 5.0 disabled several ad-ons...!!! I want them back. How do I reverse this action Mozilla Firefox 5.0 did? in English

Mozilla Firefox 5.0 disabled several ad-ons when I installed it on my new laptop...!!! I want these ad-ons working. How do I reverse this action Mozilla Firefox 5.0 did to my CPU without warning me?
I've used Mozilla Firefox 4.0 for years on my desktop, and now...problems! Do I need to uninstall the program. Is there a feature to re-enable the disabling that Firefox did without using a Microsoft restore point? Please inform

When Firefox disables an add-on, it usually is because it includes a list of compatible Firefox versions and it hasn't yet been updated for Firefox 5. If it worked on Firefox 4, there is a good chance it will work on Firefox 5, but no guarantee.
You can force Firefox to ''ignore'' add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.
    [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ Add-on Compatibility Reporter :: Add-ons for Firefox]
After you install this add-on and restart Firefox, there will still be a message that "--- is incompatible with Firefox 5.0" but the add-on will be enabled and a Disable button will appear for that entry.

  • HT5660 When updating Adobe Flash Player on my Mac I am told "blocked plug in."  How do I reverse this?

When trying to update Adobe Flash Player on My iMac I get a message that says "blocked Plug-ins."  When going back to previously viewed studies, including youtube, I get the same message.  What changed if the update was never installed?  How can I reverse this situation?  Thanks for any ideas?
    PS - not a techie :-)

Are you actually getting a Java error too, or are you only getting a Flash error?

  • Vpn icon no longer works after automatic firefox update. How do I get connection back?

Weight Watchers Connections icon changes to some other browser page after Firefox updates itself. How do I get settings back?

Firefox 32 and later builds store the passwords in the logins.json file in the profile folder and no longer use the signons.sqlite file.
If you still have the signons.sqlite file that was used in Firefox 31 and older then you could try to recover the passwords saved in that file (you will lose passwords saved in Firefox 32).
You can force Firefox to reimport the passwords from the signons.sqlite file.
    * reset the <b>signon.importedFromSqlite</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page to the default value via the right-click context menu
    * delete the <b>logins.json</b> file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed
When you restart Firefox then you should have the signon.importedFromSqlite pref with the value set to true and you should have the passwords imported in the Password Manager unless there may have been errors.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
