How do I reverse the order of file lists in finder?

When I display a finder page with icons the sort is ascending (A-Z), but when I use the list function it is decending (Z-A).  How do I reverse the list order?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and don't speak for "Apple, Inc."
In Finder icon view, click the Arrange button and select which column you'd like to sort by.
In Finder list view, click the top header of any column to sort by that column. Clicking the same header again reverses the sort order (and the small 'arrow' at the end of the column name reverses direction too).
And using Finder, View, Customize Toolbar the Finder window toolbar can be customized to display icons only, text only or both, as well as adding additional icons to the default toolbar:

  • How can I reverse the order of podcasts so I can listen in cronological order

    How can I reverse the order of podcasts so I can listen in cronological order!

    What I did was create a playlist for the podcasts and keep it sorted in reverse date order, which puts the oldest first. To prevent it from automatically playing the next podcast, I actually mark all podcasts as "skip when shuffling", and then play in shuffle mode. I also make sure all my podcasts have a genre of "podcast"; I discovered that if you use media type, the playlist doesn't update correctly on the iPod classic
    So, what I've got is a playlist of the form: (play count = 0) and (genre = podcast), sorted in reverse date order.

  • How do I reverse the order in which files appear in Icon View option?

    I took a lot of pictures on a trip recently, which I have uploaded to a folder in Finder. When I click on View Options and then Keep Arranged by Date Created, they get rearranged so that the most recent appears at the top, and the first ones taken are at the bottom. How can I reverse this order, so that they appear in chronological order?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    There might be another way.
    There are utilities which can batch-rename files, including options that sort by date, begin all the resulting filenames with a common prefix, and then add a sequential "padded" filename suffix. If you then display the resulting collection of files in alphabetical order (as in Finder's Arrange by Name in icon view), they should be sorted chronologically.
    I haven't tried any of these, but the site for [A Better Finder Rename|http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html], shareware, states:
    "A Better Finder Rename knows how to extract EXIF shooting date and time information from digital camera images and exploit them in creating sequence numbers or adding time and date information to the file name. "
    There may be suitable freeware alternatives -search for *file renamer* in [Version Tracker|http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx>.

  • Using Acrobat 9.5.5, I scanned a catalog in several segments, to merge later. How do I reverse the order of pages of the back side (odd) pages, and can I renumber each set as even numbers only and odd numbers only?

    I scanned a catalog for my archive - double sided pages of course.
    It was easy enough to scan the front pages first (odd numbers, 1-3-5) , in several sets of 30 pages, therefore several separate pdfs.
    Then I scanned the back side (even numbers 2-4-6) pages but in their natural reverse order, rather than manually reordering all 300 pages.
    Now I need to reorder the even pages which are naturally in reverse page number order (300-298-296...)
    and I need to renumber all of the pages as only odd or even numbers - set 1: pages 1-3-5-7... Set 2: 2-4-6-8...
    Then I can merge everything into one pdf.
    How can I reverse the page order?
    How can I renumber pages as only even or only odd numbers?
    Anyone have these solutions?  I don't use much of acrobats features, but it seems to be a pretty basic demand to be included. I can't find any clue in the software menus or online help.

    You can do such ordering with JavaScript. There is a recent post with a JavaScript for dealing with another aspect of page order that might provide what you want. You will have to search the forum for the post that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago as I recall.

  • How to reverse the order of a list (nodes)

    i can't figure out how to reverse the order of the values in a list of nodes. Could anyone help?
    public class IntList
         public IntNode head;
         public IntList()
              head = null;
         public void reverse()
              // I don't know how to write this

    read through the list from the end to the start, putting each element into a new list. then replace the original list with the new one.

  • Reverse the order of stacks list view

    Is there a way to reverse the order when viewing the contents of a stack in list view by date added?
    For example, the downloads stack: the default setting puts the most recently added at the top of the list, meaning I have to scroll up to it, rather than at the bottom, where it'd be right there above the icon to click on.
    Thanks for the help

    I completely agree with Solar Servant,
    The regular stacks view is viewable in this (very practical) direction, so why not the list variety?
    thanks for making a more usable OSX a reality

  • How do I control the order of files as written to the LST file of FileNameGet command with multiple files

    The UseFileCommand is not loading my files in alphabetical order...nor in timestamp order...nor in the order I select them in the FileNameGet dialog box.
    How do I control this?
    It appears that the LST file created is where the problem lies.  The UseFileList variable, it appears, reads from the last entry, and works forward.
    So I need a way to manage this..so that my data is processed according to the timestamp (earliest first) OR filename (alphanumeric sort, ascending)
    Thanks

    Hmm, seems I did a better search this morning...and came across the following....
    Previous sort request
    Maybe an enhancement?
    In my case, the issue is I'm trying to process multtiple data files collected over 6 months of durability testing.  Out of the risk of losing data, our DAQ team has elected to open a new file every hour.  So, I end up with thousands of files.
    I parse through these files, calculating time between various events.  Its CRITICAL that the calculations are in time-order.  The files each 1 Gb in size, so I prefer to utilize the filename (date/time sortable) or original timestamp.
    If processed out of order, the durability data will likley imply something quite wierd (like improvement over time).  Of course, that would be great for a management review...but not so good when warranty starts coming back
    I can write/copy any number of sort routines...I just thought the file order should be intuitive (either forward or reverse...not last, first, middle, etc...
    Anyhow...I'd like to formally request an enhacement in the next ve.  rsion of Diadem; one that provides an additional parameter to be passed...SortField.  Useful options would include FileNameForward, FilenameReverse, TimeForward, TimeReverse, etc...

  • How do I change the order of files in a combined PDF?

    Trying to create a brochure.  I've uploaded and converted some files from word to a pdf.  How can I now change the order of these files ?

    Hi respice1,
    Are you combining multiple files to PDF? If so, you can drag and drop the page thumbnails on the Combine Files tab in the order that you want the files combined.
    After the fact, you would need to use Acrobat to rearrange the pages in a PDF. You can try Acrobat for free for 30 days, if you would like. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • How can I reverse the order of songs in library?

    Whenever I import my albums into iTunes, they are always automatically arranged in reverse order. The only way i've found to change it is to right click on each track and go into Get Info>Info>Track numberof and basically change every track manually. How annoying. There must be an easier way?

    Maybe if I show you Pictures you will understand better. I thought you was talking about a playlist, I see what your talking about now. Put the CD in (Im using an old album CD for this) and you should see something like this

    Now Hit the blank header where its lighted blue and shows an up arrow http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1NyHmLpVlK4Ecwk2TR6jNMI9v0bXi And it should now be pointed down like this http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1yZikneRBsNZ2YZe6HbeJYYVBzSX

    I think you can remove suggestions from the address bar by arrowing down to the unwanted site on the auto-suggest drop-down list and pressing Delete.
    Make sure to arrow to another site or edit the address before pressing Enter or using Go, because that deleted URL will still be the address bar.
    Does that work?

  • How do I reverse the order of a stack?

    I created a smart folder for recent images and it works. It would be awesome if I could have a dock stack with the same thing and keeping the most recent image at the very bottom so I can grab it quickly. The problem is that the dock is in reverse order so the most recent is on the other end.

  • How to reverse the order of an OrderedMap?

    Is there a quick and efficient way to reverse the order of an OrderedMap?
    I'm sorta using an OrderedMap for 'breadcrumbs'. Traversing from a specific page, category by category all the way up to the top.
    For example:
    OrderedMap map = new LinkedMap();
    map.put( "Rabbit", "" );
    map.put( "Mammals", "/animals/mammals/index.jsp" );
    map.put( "Animals", "/animals/index.jsp" );
    Iterating it in my JSP view page, I get this order, which is wrong :
    Home >> Rabbit >> Mammals >> Animals
    Thats why I was wondering how I can reverse the order of the OrderedMap to get this:
    Home >> Animals >> Mammals >> Rabbit
    Thanks for reading.
    Regards,
    Stanley

    What about the following idea:
    you could write two wrapper classes:
    class ReverseOrderedMap implements OrderedMapand
    class ReverseOrderedMapIterator  implements OrderedMapIteratorIn these classes, you just map the methods
    firstKey -> lastKey
    lastKey -> firstKey
    nextKey -> previousKey
    next -> previous
    and so on. In this way, you just provide a "reversed view" on the original map.
    However, I'm not sure where elements added with put are ordered: Is it just in the sequence of addition? If yes, then the wrapped map behaves wrong, if new elements are added, because there is no corresponding "put at the begining" method. In this case, the wrapper should make the reversed map unmodifyable by implementing the put and putAll methods with throwing an exception.
