How do I revert my iTunes library to previous version?

I have had horrible experience with my B/W 40GB clickwheel -- using with Windows XP. Several crashes and each time takes 20+ hours of trying various fixes to get it back up and working. This time I can't get it to restore, no matter what I try. (Only thing that I haven't tried is taking it to a Mac to restore. BTW, if I take it into a Circuit City, do you think they'll let me use the Mac on their floor to restore my iPod? I don't live near an Apple store and don't know anyone who owns one.)
Anyway, I'd like to revert to a previous version of both iTunes and iPod Updater, 6.0.5 and 2006.06.28, respectively, in hopes that that will put me back in business. But I have been unsuccessful because iTunes tells me it can't read my library because it was "created in a later version of iTunes", i.e. 7.0.1 or 7.0.2. Can I revert my library? Do I need to reinstall iTunes 7.0.2 and do something?
How can so many of us be having such horrible problems with iTunes 7.0.x (and Windows in general?) and still no fixes?? If this thing hadn't been such an expensive gadget, I would have chucked it out the window a long time ago and gotten some sleep.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

First, go through this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Restart the computer when you're done.
When you get the system configuration message, click OK, and cancel the utility when it opens.
Open My Computer
Click Tools > Folder Options
Click the view tab
Towards the bottom, select the option to "show hidden files and folders"
Click "apply" and "ok"
Open:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings
Right click on the temp folder and click delete
Empty the recycle bin
Restart the computer
Now, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Uninstall anything that says iPod for Windows
Uninstall anything that says iTunes
Then, open C:\Program Files
Delete the iTunes folder (if it's there)
Open the iPod folder
Delete the bin folder (if it's there)
Now, go to My Music and double-click the iTunes folder. There is a data file that is simply labelled "iTunes Library." Delete it.
Go here to download and install iTunes 6.0.5
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
Go here to download and install the corresponding iPod Updater
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628forwindows.html
When it's done installing it should ask you to restart your computer. Go ahead and do so. Then, try to open iTunes and let it put your library back together. When it has done this, exit iTunes and go back into your system configuration utility. (Click Start > Run and type MSCONFIG) On the general tab, choose the option for "normal startup" and click "apply" and "close" and restart the computer again. This has your Windows running normally. You should be OK from here on out.

  • How do I restore my iTunes library when "Previous iTunes Library" is not showing up in iTunes folder?

I turn off my PC with Windows 7 for an hour, turn it back on and suddenly the only songs that show up are ones in the Cloud.
I looked through a bunch of questions on the Apple Support Communitities and they all say look for the "Previous iTunes Library" in the iTunes folder, but it's not there.
    Thanks.

If you have AVG AntiVirus the issue may rear its head again. See this post.

  • I upgraded to FF 9.0.1 yesterday, how can I revert back to a lower/previous version?

after the upgrade, i began experiencing difficulty within the email function in the ticketing system i use at work. specifically, when emailing from the ticketing system, the message appears in a larger, but different font. once the message is sent, i'll check the copy retained in the ticket and find the body of the sent message is blank. i verified with recipients that the message they receive is blank in the body as well. i would like to revert back to a previous version of FF until you can resolve this matter.
The ticketing system used here at Media General is ManageEngine, ServiceDesk Plus. The version I have is 7.6.0, build 7611

    Hey anelson,
There are a lot of benefits to running the latest version of Firefox. You should consider [http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback leaving feedback] for the developers so that they can continue to improve the product.
If you still want to roll back to a previous version of Firefox, just take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Installing a previous version of Firefox]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How to successfully revert to itunes 6.0.5 and restore itunes library.itl

    Hi guys,
Since I have now successful restored my software (and so once again have a working ipod and itunes software - no thanks to Apple for the buggy upgrade) - I thought I would share my experience of how I successfully went about this - since it was only through reading different threads on this forum I worked out how to do it.
    1) Before you do anything - I recommend you have a back-up of your music somewhere just incase. Burn yourself a data disk or two of your music files or make a copy of your itunes folder elsewhere on a hard-disc drive.
    2) Uninstall Itunes version 7 (or otherwise) - follow these steps to do this:
    Quit iTunes.
On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed
    programs, then click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes,
    select Yes.
    3) Reinstall Itunes version 6.0.5 - you can find a download link to the setup program for version 6.0.5 on the right hand-side of this page (it's the blue hyper-link which says '36MB'):
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
    Download and re-install that.
At this point don't panic if Itunes will not open.
    4) OPTIONAL STEP - If Itunes version 7 or the Ipod software version 2 messed up your ipod (i.e. deleted it's tunes etc.) now might be a good time to do a RESTORE on your ipod. You will find, thankfully, that the old ipod updater works once again now itunes 7 has gone - phew!
    5) Try to open iTunes - if you're lucky it will open and all will be back as it once was before. Typically however it may open and your music library is missing, or it may not even open at all giving you the friendly error message "The file itunes library.itl canot be read because it was created by a newer version". Again, don't panic! You are nearly there - honest. Just follow the following steps to restore your itunes library to it's former glory:
    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your iTunes folder.
For Microsoft Windows the iTunes folder is usually stored in \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Open your iTunes folder.
Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop
Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
Microsoft Windows: "iTunes Library.itl" (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl")
    Open iTunes.
From the File menu, choose Import.
Tip: Do not add any music into iTunes at this point.
Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.
    Click Choose.
    6) Give a small prayer to whatever deity you may, or may not, believe in.
    7) Open iTunes & (hopefully) boogie-tastic!!!!
    8) Dance around the room in celebration that your iTunes music is - simply - BACK THE WAY IT ALREADY WAS BEFORE - cheers APPLE cheers!

If you have any other error messages - like you can't see your ipod in itunes or whatever - I may be able to help. I believe I have put more man-hours into getting my ipod to work as it should that the cost of the little blighter 7 times over. So chances are, if you have an issue I may have a fix. :o)
    Good Luck - Happy podding!

P.S. You may also have to Deauthorize and reauthorize your account in iTunes
In some cases iTunes may "forget" that your music is authorized. You can refresh the authorization by deauthorizing and then reauthorizing your computer. To deauthorize a computer:
In iTunes, choose Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu (your computer needs to be connected to the Internet).
In the resulting dialog, enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click OK.
You can now reauthorize your computer by simply trying to play one of the songs you've purchased. A dialog box will appear asking you to enter your Apple ID and password. Once you have done so, click Authorize to finish the process.

  • How can I share my iTunes library with 2 iTunes accounts?

How can I share my iTunes library between me and my wife?
I do not want to set-up 2 seperate accounts on my mac. Do not want to do home sharing or anything like this.
I just would like to connect my iPad to ONE itunes library and at the same time connect my wifes iPad to the SAME itunes library. Can this be done? How? Thanks! Maybe the answer is something really easy like "just connect both to the computer and sync them".
    Thanks!

Plug them in and use them.
That is all you need to do.
In the answer from Apple I do not find anything about how the 2 exisiting iTunes accounts will be handled.
    They will be handled fine.
All purchases from both iTunes accounts can be sync'd to both/either iPads with no problem.
I have three iTunes accounts (me and two daughters), 3 iPhones, an iPad and a few iPods.
Any/all content can be sync'd to any device, no problems.

Currently, iMatch is turned off on my computer, as I do not want to upload any more songs. If I turn it on, will it upload all songs that are currently in my library? Is there another way that deleting them one by one?
You must enable iTunes Match on the new computer. The best way to accomplish what you want to do is to create a new, empty library by launching iTunes while holding down the Option key (Shift on Windows) and choosing "new library." Do not let iTunes scan for new content, but do enable iTunes Match on the empty library. Once the scan is finished you may delete tracks from the cloud. When you are done switch back to the main iTunes library.

  • I just purchased a Macbook, iPad, and iPhone and I am trying to sync my iTunes library from my Windows laptop.  How can I sync my iTunes library to all devices?

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro (13 inch with Retina display), an iPad Air 2, and an iPhone 6 plus.  Before these purchases, I was using a Windows 7 laptop to manage my iTunes library and iTunes purchases.  I am in need of syncing my iTunes library on my iPod classic (160 GB) with all of my new Apple devices.  How can I sync my iTunes library with all of my new devices?

Devices can only sync to one library at a time. You can, however, have multiple copies of libraries on different computers though it can be tricky making sure they are always synchronized.  You can put your Windows iTunes on your Mac.
Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • How do I import an iTunes library from an external drive if that drive has been simply removed from a dead computer, without prior measures being taken to ensure it is possible to transfer the library over?

Basically, my issue here is, I had a fully functioning iTunes on my previous Acer laptop which I used to store my music for my iPhone, I have over 2000 songs on this iTunes and as the laptop suddenly died due to motherboard failure, there was no way to follow out the instructions given by apple on how to properly transfer one iTunes library to another.
The only source of music I have comes from source files on the HDD, which, stupidly I chose to organise myself.
A large quantity of this music was deleted from the iTunes library but stayed on the HDD in the source folders (I do not know why)
By simply dragging my music folder from my HDD to a new iTunes, all the files do go over, however many of them are duplicated (due to 320>120 bit rate MP3 creations) and a number of them are simply not wanted.
Is there a way to transfer my old library straight into this new one? bearing in mind I have all the program files and everything that had iTunes running on my old computer stored onto this USB drive?
    Thank you!

When I have done this, all I did was network the two machines and copy the contents of the iTunes folder to the other machine, and that's it.
My understanding (which may not be 100% correct) is that the one file that is absolutely necessary is iTunes Library, and that the XML file is actually a copy auto-generated from the iTunes Library, appearing in a different format only for non-iTunes apps that take advantage of the iTunes Library data.
As far as I know, if you simply have the Library (database) file and all your original music files, iTunes on that computer should operate as it did on your old computer. I believe that the Album Artwork, Genius Data, and XML files can be regenerated from the Library file. Not sure about the Extras file.

  • How do I back-up my itunes library in newest version of itunes?

How do I back-up my itunes library in newest version of itunes?

Fast backup for iTunes library  (Windows)
Grab SyncToy  2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time.
If your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes, regardless of the drive letter or path it appears on.

  • How do I sync my iTunes library on my desktop to my laptop

I travel a lot and now have an iPod touch. I LOVE IT and I particularly love that I can download directy to the iPod from the internet - FANTASTIC!!
My issue is that I have the iPod sync'd with my desktop. Now I want to get my laptop in sync so when I travel I can have my library with me but it is telling me I would have to wipe my iPod Touch to sync with this laptop but all my stuff is on my desktop and iPod
I have not been able to find it in my help searches. I am sure there is a way to do this because Apple can't expect me to purchase two sets of all my music.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Although I can access the songs it is not helpful for my issue. I cannot be connected to the desktop while on the road and some locations I visit do not allow anything but my laptop on site so I cannot use my iPod.
How can I have my iTunes library from my desktop accessible on my laptop when I am travelling?
I waited on hold for over 18 minutes for someone to answer the apple support line and then they wanted me to pay $49 for support on a FREE APPLICATION. It is ridiculous. It is because I wouldn't give them the serial number for my iPod as I continued to tell the guy my question is NOT iPod related......... Can anyone help me?

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?

Just copy the entire Music folder from the old Mac to the new Mac, then click on the folder and Get Info and change the permisisons and click the spoke to "apply to enclosed items"
Ideally it's best to use the same user name on the new machine, this way all your iTunes playlists work and there is no need to change permissions.
You can create the same named user by creating another account in System Preferences >accounts
If the old computer is a PC then just copy the old Music folder to the Mac onto the desktop, then use iTunes to import the music files.
If the old comptuer is dead, then you can extract the hard drive(if it's still working) and use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable to access the internal drive.
Mac's should be able to read NTFS format of PC's, just not write to it. But if it's not working there is software to install to allow the Mac to read that NTFS drive format, just search online.
