How do I revert to iTunes 11.0 or earlier?

iTunes used to work well with my iPad1, iPhone5, and two iPod5's.  I would periodically synch them in order to create a backup, or transfer any new apps.  Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.4.62, iTunes will no longer recognize any Apple device.  Windows 8.1 recognizes them just fine, I can easily transfer pictures and videos as I always have just by right-clicking on the device in Explorer, and choosing Import Pictures and Videos.  When I run iTunes diagnostics, it fails the Device Connectivity tests, and comes up with a red dot telling me I have nothing connected.  This happens with all devices.  I have tried different cords (I have 3 lightning, and 2 30-pin), but all are the same.  Windows no problem, iTunes no dice.
I found an Apple technote (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US), however I have followed the suggestions and thus far it remains the same.  My local security software has not changed recently, nor do I have any other phones.  After playing around with this for a number of days, I am convinced that the latest version of iTunes is at fault.  I don't remember this happening with iTunes 11.0, so how do I revert to that version?  Or barring that, how do I go back to a version 10.x?
Thanks.

I have tried to restore the individual files of iTunes 11.4 from time machine with no success. On an apple support call they mentioned to do a full system restore from the time machine backup thru the OS X Utilities. Unfortunately for me I hadn't done a recent backup before accidentally updating to iTunes 12.0.1.
If I restore all the individual locations of the iTunes files I either get the spinning pinwheel of death or an error that a required component is not installed.
The answer from apple support was learn to like iTunes 12 otherwise we can't help you.
There are several ways to remove iTunes 12 through certain software or by stoping the background process related to iTunes..

  • How do I revert my iTunes library to previous version?

I have had horrible experience with my B/W 40GB clickwheel -- using with Windows XP. Several crashes and each time takes 20+ hours of trying various fixes to get it back up and working. This time I can't get it to restore, no matter what I try. (Only thing that I haven't tried is taking it to a Mac to restore. BTW, if I take it into a Circuit City, do you think they'll let me use the Mac on their floor to restore my iPod? I don't live near an Apple store and don't know anyone who owns one.)
Anyway, I'd like to revert to a previous version of both iTunes and iPod Updater, 6.0.5 and 2006.06.28, respectively, in hopes that that will put me back in business. But I have been unsuccessful because iTunes tells me it can't read my library because it was "created in a later version of iTunes", i.e. 7.0.1 or 7.0.2. Can I revert my library? Do I need to reinstall iTunes 7.0.2 and do something?
How can so many of us be having such horrible problems with iTunes 7.0.x (and Windows in general?) and still no fixes?? If this thing hadn't been such an expensive gadget, I would have chucked it out the window a long time ago and gotten some sleep.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

    First, go through this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Restart the computer when you're done.
When you get the system configuration message, click OK, and cancel the utility when it opens.
    Open My Computer
    Click Tools > Folder Options
    Click the view tab
Towards the bottom, select the option to "show hidden files and folders"
    Click "apply" and "ok"
    Open:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings
Right click on the temp folder and click delete
    Empty the recycle bin
    Restart the computer
Now, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Uninstall anything that says iPod for Windows
    Uninstall anything that says iTunes
    Then, open C:\Program Files
Delete the iTunes folder (if it's there)
    Open the iPod folder
Delete the bin folder (if it's there)
Now, go to My Music and double-click the iTunes folder. There is a data file that is simply labelled "iTunes Library." Delete it.
Go here to download and install iTunes 6.0.5
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
Go here to download and install the corresponding iPod Updater
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628forwindows.html
When it's done installing it should ask you to restart your computer. Go ahead and do so. Then, try to open iTunes and let it put your library back together. When it has done this, exit iTunes and go back into your system configuration utility. (Click Start > Run and type MSCONFIG) On the general tab, choose the option for "normal startup" and click "apply" and "close" and restart the computer again. This has your Windows running normally. You should be OK from here on out.

  • How Do You REVERT to iTunes 6.0.5 from v7.0 on a MACINTOSH????

  • How to successfully revert to itunes 6.0.5 and restore itunes library.itl

    Hi guys,
Since I have now successful restored my software (and so once again have a working ipod and itunes software - no thanks to Apple for the buggy upgrade) - I thought I would share my experience of how I successfully went about this - since it was only through reading different threads on this forum I worked out how to do it.
    1) Before you do anything - I recommend you have a back-up of your music somewhere just incase. Burn yourself a data disk or two of your music files or make a copy of your itunes folder elsewhere on a hard-disc drive.
    2) Uninstall Itunes version 7 (or otherwise) - follow these steps to do this:
    Quit iTunes.
On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed
    programs, then click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes,
    select Yes.
    3) Reinstall Itunes version 6.0.5 - you can find a download link to the setup program for version 6.0.5 on the right hand-side of this page (it's the blue hyper-link which says '36MB'):
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
    Download and re-install that.
At this point don't panic if Itunes will not open.
    4) OPTIONAL STEP - If Itunes version 7 or the Ipod software version 2 messed up your ipod (i.e. deleted it's tunes etc.) now might be a good time to do a RESTORE on your ipod. You will find, thankfully, that the old ipod updater works once again now itunes 7 has gone - phew!
    5) Try to open iTunes - if you're lucky it will open and all will be back as it once was before. Typically however it may open and your music library is missing, or it may not even open at all giving you the friendly error message "The file itunes library.itl canot be read because it was created by a newer version". Again, don't panic! You are nearly there - honest. Just follow the following steps to restore your itunes library to it's former glory:
    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your iTunes folder.
For Microsoft Windows the iTunes folder is usually stored in \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Open your iTunes folder.
Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop
Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
Microsoft Windows: "iTunes Library.itl" (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl")
    Open iTunes.
From the File menu, choose Import.
Tip: Do not add any music into iTunes at this point.
Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.
    Click Choose.
    6) Give a small prayer to whatever deity you may, or may not, believe in.
    7) Open iTunes & (hopefully) boogie-tastic!!!!
    8) Dance around the room in celebration that your iTunes music is - simply - BACK THE WAY IT ALREADY WAS BEFORE - cheers APPLE cheers!
    xxx
If you have any other error messages - like you can't see your ipod in itunes or whatever - I may be able to help. I believe I have put more man-hours into getting my ipod to work as it should that the cost of the little blighter 7 times over. So chances are, if you have an issue I may have a fix. :o)
    Good Luck - Happy podding!

P.S. You may also have to Deauthorize and reauthorize your account in iTunes
In some cases iTunes may "forget" that your music is authorized. You can refresh the authorization by deauthorizing and then reauthorizing your computer. To deauthorize a computer:
In iTunes, choose Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu (your computer needs to be connected to the Internet).
In the resulting dialog, enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click OK.
You can now reauthorize your computer by simply trying to play one of the songs you've purchased. A dialog box will appear asking you to enter your Apple ID and password. Once you have done so, click Authorize to finish the process.

  • How do I restore my iTunes Library to an earlier time?

I accidentally deleted one of my favourite playlists that I modified occasionally in a span of 3 years.. (because I was cleaning my keyboard)
Because of this, not only did I lose 3 years of fixing a perfect playlist, but in an attempt to fix this, it resulted in wiping clear all data on my iTunes.
It's as if I just got a brand new laptop and a freshly installed iTunes. I lost everything. and my iPhone was connected to iTunes at that moment as well,
and now my iPhone lost all of it's playlists, but I still have my entire Music Library in it. Just the Playlists are gone, and my iTunes is completely naked.
How in the world do I fix this :/
I'm actually about to tear up because one of my favourite Playlists which was very important to me is completely gone.
I can't remember the songs that were in it, and it's not like I could re-create it when I lost every single song in my iTunes.
This is very frustrating, please, someone help me :/
This is an extremely important matter, so only serious answers please..

  • Reverting from itunes 8 to 9

well i just recently upgraded to itunes 9 and i didn't really like it so i want to revert back to 8 and I'm not sure what to do. I tried uninstalling itunes 9 and then installing itunes 8 again but it said I couldn't do it because itunes was originally installed with a newer version or something. Also when I gave up hope and installed itunes 9 again it didn't recover ALL my songs and I'm confused about the whole "re creating my itunes library" thing, I already saw the the instructions but I'm a little slow with these things. I just want to go back to my itunes 8 and have everything like it used to be a couple days ago. PLEASE HELP MEEEEE!!!!

Here is how I successfully reverted to iTunes 8 after making the mistake of upgrading to iTunes 9. There are probably other ways - I'm not a guru but this worked well for me.
You'll need a backup with iTunes 8 on it.
    Close iTunes.
Drag & drop iTunes 8 into your applications folder. It will ask if you want to replace the new version with the old one. Say yes.
(iTunes 9 made changes to your library so at this point iTunes won't open at all)
Hold down the option key while you click on the iTunes icon as if to open it. Hold it down till a screen gives you the option to create a new iTunes. Choose that option and location - you can put it on your desktop for now and move it later if you want to.
The new iTunes you just created will open. Open two finder windows on your desktop and move the music and podcasts you may have in folders in iTunes 9 and place them in 8, replacing the comparable folder. Do not replace the library, you have a new one now.
Open iTunes 8 - go to File - Add To Library - and import your songs and podcasts.
If you have your playlists backed up somewhere you can import them as well, if not you'll have to recreate them.
Maybe someone out there can simplify this - but for now - this works.

  • How do I revert back to previous (before 11) itunes. Someone nicked my Album Cover flow, without asking

how do I revert back to previous (before 11) itunes.
Someone nicked my Album Cover flow, without asking. I have snow leopard. I was happy. Just before Christmas as if I havent got enough to do Thank You. I've given Apple loads of money this year--presents and all, the least they could do is tell me, they're going to take stuff off of My computer that I enjoy,/ find very useful/ and worked hard to update all my album covers and have a gallery of my own artwork for my mixes--it was beautiful. When I went to add some more, the facility had been taken away from me. Was so dissapointed. They send me emails all the time to buy the latest must have products. I even did a questionair to help them. They really care for their customers--right. So why couldnt they warn me about this update, its only polite.
If I bought a warm coat some years ago, then the manufatures came round without my knowledge and cut off the left arm, and later told me, their reserch says that people dont use the left arm so much so they have to get rid of it. 1. I think that would be illegal. 2. its impolite not to ask if they could do it. 3. why not give me an options to keep it, seeing as i bought it. 4. its ludicrous.
I trusted Apple-but then -they took my YouTube off my ipad. I cant update to newer software as I will lose some expensive programms (Im not made of money). I also have 2 oldish defunct but fully working laser printers (if they were compatible with new software).
Im not a techky-I just use the stuff, I do art and music and Cover Flow was equipement I used.

    - You do have iTunes version 11 on the computer, right. Saying the latest is not sufficient.
    - Have you tried everthing here:

  • HT1923 How do I uninstall itunes 11 and revert to itunes 10?

    Hi,
How do I uninstall itunes 11, which I find a chore to use, and revert to itunes 10? Is it possible? Or should I just get on with it?
    Thanks
    Spudzulyke

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
N.b. iOS 7 requires iTunes 11.1 or later. Do not downgrade iTunes if you have already upgraded your devices... Roll back of iOS is not possible.
If you feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • Seriously: How to revert to iTunes 6 safely?

Somebody knows how to revert to previous version? Sincerely, I don´t like videos, I have no time to fight with all the bugs of the new version, and I want to return to the working one. I can save my home folder, restore a complete backup of last week to get the application, and then restore the home folder but, that will work? Or the iTunes library files, updated by version 7 will not work with 6 anymore?

If you want to revert to iTunes 6:
    • Trash iTunes 7
    • Delete the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from ./Library/Receipts
    • Run the iTunes6 installer. It should install without any problem. Older versions (iTunes 6.0.5 not yet) are available here.
    • Trash the 'iTunes Library' file in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    • Create a copy of the 'iTunes Library 2006-09-12' (or a date near this one) in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries and rename it to 'iTunes Library'
    • Put this file at ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes.
    • Run iTunes 6. It should recognize the library without any problem. Any changes you made during the time you used iTunes 7 are lost of course.
I tested the above procedure 2 days ago and it worked without problems.
    Hope this helps.
    M
    Edit:
I tested the above procedure only to see if it possible to revert to iTunes 6 in case of trouble. I don't experience problems with iTunes 7 on my system.

  • I really dislike iTunes 11. How do I revert to an earlier version?

I really dislike iTunes 11. How do I revert to the previous version (v10.6)?

So I was pi**ed that they removed the Album Art preview. I decided to downgrade. I renamed my iTunes folder within ~/Music. After deleting the 11 .app, I installed 10.7. I ran it and everything seemed fine. It was empty, of course. So I drag and drop all my files over from the old iTunes folder, except iTunes Library.itl. I copied the old one from the Previous folder, renamed it, and started iTunes. Everything looked as it was, even the window was resized like I had it -- but I had a popup window.
    "An unknown error occured -42408"
I tried every single solution I could find on the internet and none of them helped it. I work in IT for a living so believe me when I say I tried everything. The only other solutions were upgrade iTunes (lol) or do a full Time Machine restore. I don't feel like restoring my entire computer tonight, so I decided to suck it up and reinstall iTunes 11.
What a ******* nightmare. I can't believe Apple would remove such useful features and not even give you the option to put them back. I guarantee you won't get them back, either. Apple doesn't have a great history of taking stuff away and giving it back. Really regretting my decision to try it out.
Oh yeah, and I had to fix my iPad with the fix provided above. Didn't help my error though. I couldn't authorize or deauthorize my computer. I want to see if I can deauthorize it with iTunes 11 and then try it with 10.7 but I've already messed around with it enough. I just want to have a good night. This pretty much wrecked it.

  • How do I revert to an older version of iTunes?

I'm running OS !0.4.8, and software update upgraded my itunes yesterday. Now, it won't open - it says I need 10.4.9.
I CANT upgrade to 10.4.9, because every time I do, Airport Extreme update 2007-001, which is not compatible with 10.4.9, stops working and my internet gets cut off. So how can I revert to the older itunes?

    hattrickpatrick,
Don't be in such a rush to downgrade iTunes ..... you are putting the cart before the horse!
I would strongly suggest that you upgrade the OSX 10.4.8 to the later versions ... 10.4.10 or .11 ...
but *first update the AirPort Extreme* in the following order:
    1) http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremeupdate2007002.html
    then
    2) http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremeupdate2007003.html
Repair Permissions using (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/RP) ..... RESTART computer.
You should then be able to upgrade your Tiger OSX 10.4.8, which will enable the install of other applications.
