  • How do I rip a DVD to put on my website?

    Okay, I have an 18 minute short film on a DVD that I want to put on my website. I want it to be the biggest size and best quality it can be without taking too long to load.
    1) How do I rip it off the DVD into a format that I can import into iMovie or the media gallery?
    2) How do I change the size of the file so that it won't take too long to load?
    3) Is there a way to put a ripped file into the media gallery and bypass iMovie? How would I do this?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

    I have an 18 minute short film on a DVD that I want to put on my website.
    Is this a home DVD or commercial? If commercial, then request an unprotected copy when you seek written permission for use.
    I want it to be the biggest size and best quality it can be without taking too long to load.
    Since these are mutually exclusive propositions, please specify minimum acceptable display dimensions and quality requirements.
    1) How do I rip it off the DVD into a format that I can import into iMovie or the media gallery?
    It should not be necessary to "rip" but merely copy and/or convert the source file if this is being done legally. iMovie '08 will accept, edit, and export DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and standard/non-proprietary MPEG-4 or H.264 files. It will also accept and edit but not export Apple Animation and Apple Video compressed files. The default compression format for Gallery videos is H.264/AAC in the M4V file container.
    2) How do I change the size of the file so that it won't take too long to load?
    You reduce the total data used to compress the file. Unfortunately, this also reduces the quality unless you also reduce the data rate requirements by reducing the dimensions and/or use a more efficient compression format.
    3) Is there a way to put a ripped file into the media gallery and bypass iMovie?
    Yes and no. Yes in the sense that you can manually "replace" a Gallery file with another file of the same name but no in the sense that iMovie '08 must have previously created/published the movie that you replace. (Or so some contributors have stated.)

  • Transcoding form VOB format (DVD) to other format for editing.

    Hello,
    I've copied the content of a DVD the MPEG-2 VOB format, and I have to editing with that material. I was thinking of transcoding in a other format to work the edit. In what format I can work with in an easy way but keeping the best quality ?
    Thanks for you attention !

    but I never heard about loosing more quality in transcoding.
    Then you don't do this much. Codecs are COMPRESSED formats. That is part of their name...CO...compression. DEC...decompression. Whenever you take a compressed format and convert it to ANOTHER compressed format, you lose image quality. Because compression is a way to throw away certain bits of information yet keep the image looking decent. Going from one format of compression to another...so different bits of information are thrown out...causes loss in quality. So if you transcode and transcode and transcode you lose information every single time. So you get loss in quality.
    Always have.

  • How do I convert a DVD to a format suitable for a Digital Download?

    I need guidance as to the best way to convert a DVD to a format suitable for a digital download. I am a web developer not a video expert, I only have access to Premiere Pro as a Creative Cloud subscriber. I'm not even sure if this is the best application to do what a need to do.
    My client sells books some of which have accompanying DVD's, she wants me to convert these to a format that can be downloaded. I don't have the original files, just the DVD's themselves to work with.

    Change steps 2 and 3 to your preferred web format.

  • How do you rip anime dvds with deinterlacing and the same aspect ratio?

    Hi I use clips from anime dvds for a hobby of mine. I have a problem. I can't find the right program or the right instruction to convert my m2v or vob files into crsip clean video clips with deinterlacing and low file space. Is Missing Media Burner the right program? What is the step by step process? If you need anymore detail I will be more than happy to say it. I ripped the clips from MAC the Ripper.

    Daniel,
    Your first post - and - I wonder how many more to follow?
    Unlesss you have permissions from the copyright© owner of the material you are using for your "hobby" - you are on very dodgy ground.
    If you are a student - working on projects on campus - using the facilities of the University - on found footage - under the auspices of academia - that's different. However, hobby - oh dear oh dear.
    As Shane has quite rightly put - "Hmmmmm...."

  • How do i burn to dvd when the format is avi

    please help

    Can you give a few details - avi is not a format, it is a container for video:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Interleave
    Now, if you want to burn a movie - no matter the format - you will need to use iMovie and/or iPhoto and/or iDVD to render the footage so it can be played on any DVD player. If the original format is such that it can't be read by the softwares I mentioned, you may need something like MPEG Streamclip to convert it first.

  • Ripping Burned DVD to iMovie

    How do I rip a DVD from iDVD & iMovie to be reedited???
    iMac4,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   LaCiE 186.3 GB HD

    DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
    for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (29$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast 6/7 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

  • Ripping DVD to mov format

    Hi there,
    I was just wondering what is the best way to rip a DVD into mov format so that it can be edited easily in Final Cut. I know ripping from DVD makes it awful quality, but I have a few films I made years ago on DVD and DVD alone, so it would be nice to have a copy I can upload to the web, all be it poor quality.
    So what do you suggest? Whats the cheapest and best option?
    Cheers!

    David,
    Was I condescending? If so, I apologize. I took his reply to mean that he was insinuating that Tom was ripping a commercial DVD and using the material for a FCP project or for some other purpose. Was that not the implication? If not, then I apologize. If so, then I stand by what I said.
    I never stated he didn't give a reply, best, worst, or otherwise. But the fact that his reply was 'conditional' and because of that, yes, it was insulting.
    FWIW, his suggestion is fine. (though the question is curiously still unanswered. Perhaps the poster never checked back? Who knows?) If I have anything to offer to the OP I most certainly will. That is not my field, and I'm sure gogiangigo knows much more about it than I do. But that expertise still does not give anyone the right or moral high ground to preach, or rather, insinuate another is breaking the law without any proof whatsoever, beyond a mere simple and polite question.
    As for me not 'offering' anything useful, let me get this straight. Wwhat you are saying is, since I have no suggestion to the ORIGINAL post, I can't post? I can't reply to another post in the thread? You aren't saying that, are you? Otherwise, you'd be guilty of that too, I'm afraid.
    I have no problem apologizing to gogiangigo if I am offbase completely and he didn't mean to insinuate that Tom was breaking the law. If he states that, I'm all ears. Also, he might want to apologize to the original poster. And while we're at it, you might think about it too.
    Look, bottom line is, the OP wanted help. The gogiangigo offered it, but only after a very lightly veiled comment about it being legit, as in legal, as in, the OP didn't, hopefully, perhaps, maybe, rip a commercial DVD. If you can't see that in the post, I can't help with that. Again, not my field.
    I have no desire to get into a war over this. If my reply doesn't suit you, well...
    My suggestion to you would be to ignore any post that you find laughable and/or curious.
    Peace

  • Encoding: handbrake ripped, videoera (PC) to ipod format

    ok, I used handbrake to rip my dvds to mp4 format to prepare for the new ipod. I relized that they were all in 1000 bitrate and dreaded having to either rip them again or use quicktime to encode them to 320x240. I looked on this site and i heard about a program called videoera and when i started using it was immedeatly relieved. But when i watched a movie concerted i saw that the video and audio were uneven. ANYONE KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO?
    thanks, dee

    Since i posted this topic i have figured out 2 things.
    1. if i encode one at a time, videoera works
    2. video2ipod works just the same
    so (for now) i think i got it.
    thanks
