How do I rotate a photo? iOS v1.2
I am trying to take a frame out of a movie shot with my iPhone, use it as a photo for a freeze-frame effect.
Here's the rub, I found the frame in the photo app and took a screengrab. Import into iMovie, and it's rotated incorrectly. I can rotate video clips, but not photos. I can't seem to edit the photo in the default Apple photo app, and if I use a third party app to rotate the image, iMovie patently refuses to acknowledge it's existance.
I've seen one solution about saving the photo as a video, but I do not think that option is available on the iPad. Any other ideas?
Video was shot on an iPhone 4 in landscape orientation, imported via camera connection kit.
Screen grab was taken on an iPad 2 in landscape orientation.
I have Photogene, iMovie refuses to see its directories, and it won't save back to the default Apple location (which is likely the problem). There was one or two other free ones I tried but since they didn't work I deleted them. I'll have a look at Iris though.
As for why I took a screen grab of the default photo app, I used it to cue up the exact frame I wanted to freeze on, waited for the UI to fade, and then snap with the top and home buttons at once. Is there a better way in iMovie of freezing on a single frame for a any length of time than grabbing the frame as a image and displaying the image as a photo? Thats how I learned to do that sort of thing ages ago on Premiere 4, but that was in the dark ages of OS 7.5.1

TS4253 How do you rotate a photo that is sideways in the photo library on iPad?
How do you rotate a photo that is sideways in the photo library on the iPad? I have found no solution in the user manual or anywhere else. I simply want to rotate the picture from being sideways to being upright. Doesn't seem like this should be such a mystery. Or am I missing something obvious? Thx
Thanks folks, I see there are photo editor apps for the iPad. I am downloading one now, and it should work. Good to know I wasn't missing something in the iPad itself. It does not have the capability to rotate or edit pictures without outside help. Thx

How do I rotate multiple photos in iPhoto '11?
Previously I could use the 'command' key to highlight several photos and then press 'rotate' and they would rotate 90 degrees. Now, with iPhoto '11 that ability seems to have been eliminated. There must be a way to do this?
I had the same question today - just started using iPhoto. In addition to the answer from Terence, if you need to rotate your photos in the opposite direction, select Option-Command-R. I've found this link http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/shortcuts/ invaluable since I'm an old time PC user and new to Mac.

IPhone 6 won't rotate my photos?
I was just going through my photos and found some were upside down.
I clicked on the photo and clicked edit in the right hand corner but no option to rotate comes up on crop, colour and the wand.
how do you rotate your photos now? Very confusedHey, I was wondering the same thing and I found an answer. When you're editing the picture, select the crop tool. From the crop tool screen you'll see a small icon towards the bottom left, that is your rotate button. Happy editing!

How do we rotate photos now in iOS 8?
Under iOS 7, it was pretty easy to rotate a photo if the camera misunderstood its orientation when the photo was taken. There was an arrow tool that rotated the image 90 degrees at a press when you tapped "Edit" on the image.
This seems to be gone under iOS 8; does anyone know if the functionality just moved somewhere else, or is it gone completely? My 5s often gets its orientation wrong, especialy when taking shots straight down at a tabletop and not being able to correct these is a major problem. After Tapping on Edit text tap on the "Crop" icon next to the word Cancel. Then either slide your finger on the rotator slider, or tap on the rotation icon on the left.

Some pictures in photo stream are sideways, how do I rotate them?
I imported all my new photos into one event and rotated them as needed. Now I see them in photo stream and some are rotated and some are not.....what is going on? How can I have all pictures face the correct direction?
Thanks for your help! How are you vieing your photos and how were they taken?
If they were taken with an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) then they have embedded in the EXIF data the camera orientation. If your viewing software is current enough, it will read this information and display the photos in the proper orientation. If you have pulled these photos into a software which does not honoir this EXIF header information, you could have rotated them, and now be causing applications which do honor the header to be rotating the image incorrectly.
To be able to provide moe help, we will need more specifics. -

How do i get my photos back, if I didn't back up my iPhone 5 and now its in recovery mode after updating from iOS 8.0.1 to iOS 8.0.2?
In you case, the only way is to use data recovery app to get back your lost photos, so the chance is uncertain. It depends on how smart the app it's. The good news is that most of the apps allow you to try them out. You can test them out by yourself. The steps are:
Install data recovery app on your computer
connect your iPhone and allow the app scan iphone
display scanning result
choose local folder to store recovered items
You can choose to recover your photos from local disk, iTunes backup or icloud. More details can be found out here. -

I want to be able to view my photos in iOS according to the faces I've identified in them on the Mac, but I can't seem to figure out how. Any suggestions?
On iOS, in the Photos app, use the search functionality (the magnifying glass, top right). Once you click on the magnifying glass - you may need to wait a moment or two - you will see a list of suggested or recent searches. You can type in a face name instead. The results from the search will be all pics tagged with that name.
You may have an issue with not all tagged pictures appearing in the search results, however. Initially all appeared for me, but they no longer do. There appears to be some issue with the reindexing of my picture data in the cloud - the search still returns folder names for folders which don't exist anymore. Hopefully you won't have that to content with. -
