How do I route system sounds to USB audio?

I own An M-Track USB audio interface.  Music, Videos, and Applications in general all route audio to this device properly.  In sound settings, both Input and Output are set to the M-Track.  The problem is that system sounds specifically still route to the built in speakers.  This is a problem since a lot of my work is done overnight while my wife is sleeping.  These random sounds wake her up.  Please help me figure out how to fix this.

I appreciate the answer, but if you read my question thoroughly you will notice this: "In sound settings, both Input and Output are set to the M-Track"
Most audio routes properly.  It is strictly system notifications (New emails, File transfer completed, etc) that routes to the internal audio.

  • System sounds over USB audio out

I have a white Macbook hooked up to my JVC receiver through USB (It uses the venerable Burr-Brown chipset, so you can hook it straight up to a USB port), through a USB hub.
All is well, and my iTunes list plays through the receiver's speakers just fine, as do DVDs, CDs and whatnot.
However, the system's own sound (the Ping of received mail, or the gentle swoosh of the trash can emptying) do not. They continue to play over the laptop's own 2 speakers.
In the Audio pane in System Preferences, everything is set correctly. The selected output device is the receiver, in the sound effects tab in the same pane I can set the receiver as the selected output device, but system sounds keep playing through the internal speakers.

  • No Sound from USB Audio

I have a feeling this is a stupid mistake but I can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it. I had a fresh install of arch and everything worked fine, and speaker-test played fine. I installed KDE and audio still worked, but it kept giving notifications on startup like, "USB audio device has been removed", when the USB headset was still plugged in. Every once in a while I'd be stuck without sound but it would fix itself after removing and reinserting the USB audio thing. Eventually it started up with no audio; Each time the audio device is removed KDE said, "Would you like this to be removed from the device list", and this time I clicked "No" and "don't show me again". I can't figure out how to revert to "show me again". At time of writing with my USB audio plugged in, in the KDE Phonon audio system settings manager, it lists five greyed out USB headphone devices, and one colored one. I have a feeling that's the problem...
If I start up VLC media player, for example, I can go into that program's audio device manager and select USB audio, and everything plays fine! When it plays to the default device though, no sound comes out of my headset, so I can't get audio out of most applications.
    The module is loaded:
    lsmod | grep snd_usb_audio
    > snd_usb_audio         112633  3
I've tried the things recommended on the following thread and on the wiki, but neither have worked:
    http://archlinux.me/w0ng/2012/07/06/als … b-headset/
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … ound_cards
(neither the manual activation or the automatic script)
Oh, and looking at the problem on this page on the forum: I've changed the order of the devices and this hasn't helped.
Any ideas on what's wrong, or how to remove all the dead devices it lists?

to remove the other devices you have to disable them. It could be done from that window but you don't have the tab. So try installing pavucontrol and disable the other cards.
And you have to select in asound conf to use your usb card on boot. Use the script from the wiki for that.

  • How to prevent Mac Pro to select USB audio out instead of optical audio out?

I have the following problem: Usually I use the optical audio output of my Mac Pro, but every time I reboot the system, Mac OS X changes the audio output to an usb audio device I've attached to use it with Boot Camp. Is it possible to prevent Mac OS X from changing the audio output automatically every time I start my system?

I have no problems with the audio out (the jack on the back) on my Mac Pro, though I'm not using a high-end stereo and I'm in an office environment so I may not hear subtle noise. If you haven't tried a different cable, you might try that. If your stereo supports it, you can also try the optical output.
As far as it not playing at all, make sure the Output setting in the Sound system preference is set to "line out" (or digital out if you're using the optical jack).

  • Delayed system sounds and no audio in web browser or itunes

    HP Envy 14 B4B15UA#ABA Windows 7
No changes to the system recently (that I'm aware of).  Suddenly I have no sound in iTunes or Chrome.  The volume equalizer doesn't show anything when sounds should be playing, and iTunes doesn't even try to play.  Also, system sounds are on about a seven second delay.  When I try to configure my speakers, I get an error that says "failed to play test tone", but then it plays several seconds later.  System "clicks" and error tones are also delayed.
I have tried searching for audio driver updates (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC), but it is current.  I have tried plugging headphones in, no dice.  I have restarted several times, and installed windows updates.  I have restored system defaults in case I accidentally changed something.  I even went into the godforsaken Beats controller to see if something was wonky there.  Nothing.  I have no idea why this is happening.  Please help.

    Hey thatpurpleone,
I see that you're not getting any sound from the speakers.
Follow this Document even though you mention there wasn't nothing that changed with the system.

  • How do I create surround sound 5.1 audio in Premiere Elements 10?

    Okay, that's my question.
I have a Zoom H2n which captures two stereo channels from its 5 microphones and it creates a pair of stereo audio files. I would like to import them into Premiere Elements 10 on my Mac (OS X Lion on a desktop Mac), create a video and export the video and audio to a DVD with surround sound.
Is this possible? I have a 5.1 video camera, and the sound from that is exported correctly to DVD, so I know Premiere Elements handles existing 5.1 sound correctly.

    > please report your success
    Confident, aren't we? :->
Audacity would import the sound from the .mts files that my Canon saves video and surround sound to, but Audacity couldn't play the sound. It was there in the waveforms, but just a click came out. C'est la vie. I just went directly to my H2n files, and it works fine with them.
I shoot a video using a regular mic, and I also record the sound externally to my Zoom H2n. I use a finger snap or clap as my clapper board. I have the H2n set to 4 Channel, which means it records two stereo audio streams, one with a name ending in MS.WAV, and the other ending XY.WAV. I use the MS stream as my front, and the XY as the surround. I also make sure the H2n is recording at 48000.
I copy the two .WAV files to my Mac. I copy the video to my Mac.
The current version of Audacity is 1.3.14, which I used. Other versions may vary in how to set them up. You'll need current versions of LAME and FFmpeg, and Audacity directs you to the correct locations to download and install them, if you need to. Then you follow the directions to tell Audacity where to find the files; when all is correct, Audacity displays the version numbers instead of asking you where they are.
In the OS X version of Audacity, go to File -> Import -> Audio ... and locate the MS and XY files. Select them both by command clicking them, then select Open. I get two warning dialogue boxes about working on original files, so I work on copies, click OK both times. Audacity then shows its main window with two files, each having 2 tracks of audio. I do no processing in Audacity, but you may choose to if you wish.
I select File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue box I choose as my format AC3 files (FFmpeg). Choose a file name in the Save As box, then click Save.
Now is the hard part. I get a window for Advanced Mixing Options. Because I have four streams of sound, the window defaults to four channels. However, I need six channels, so I slide the slider over to get the six. For my Mac and Audacity versions,
       Channel 1 is left front
       Channel 2 is right front
       Channel 3 is center
Channel 4 is low frequency effects (LFE)
       Channel 5 is left surround
       Channel 6 is right surround
By clicking the boxes you connect or disconnect MS left to Channel 1, MS right to Channel 2, XY left to Channel 5, and XY right to Channel 6. Then I click to OK button, and Audacity writes the .ac3 file with the name I gave it.
Start up Adobe Premiere Elements; I'm using 10, and I use the timeline. I import the video file and the .ac3 file. I double-click the video and shorten it to the first useable snap. Then I double click the .ac3 file and do the same.
I drag the video to the timeline and play it just o make sure it's where I want it and to watch the waveforms from the audio portion. Then I drag the audio to the narration track and sync its snap to the snap on the video's soundtrack. If I remembered to record at 48000, all is in perfect sync.
Right-click the video and select Unlink video and audio. Then select only the audio track that is with the video and delete it. Then select the video and .ac3 tracks and link them. Export to DVD, and I get a 4-channel surround sound with the video.
I understand from Audacity forums that the assignments of the various channels to left, right, center, and LFE have changed between versions. Be aware the assignments may not be correctly reported here and that they may change with later versions of Audacity.
Audacity is free, and so are LAME and FFmpeg. Audacity lives here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and its wiki is here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audacity_Wiki_Home_Page

  • How do I increase my sound using the Audio Mixer?

I needed to raise the volume of a clip I had in my Premiere Elements project.  Somehow, I managed to do it.  When I play the clip with the Audio Mixer open, I see the slider bar way at the top at a +3 which is great for the clip I have.  I have another clip from the same event and I also need to raise the sound to a +3.  I THOUGHT I had selected the clip, and then simply slid the bar up.  I did this a few days ago.  Now I am trying to raise the volume on another clip by sliding the bar up but it has no effect.  I may have edited the start and end of the clip but I wouldn't think that would have any impact.  I would think that any volume changes could be made to a trimmed clip.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.

    Rick
Have you explored Normalizing the clips....Clip Menu/Audio Options/Audio Gain
Please see "Adjust the Input Level of Clips" in the following Adobe document
Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Mixing audio and adjusting volume
Are you working with Music Score Soundtracks?
Are you working with 5.1 channel audio?
Generalizing...you should be able to volume change an audio clip that has been trimmed.

  • Disable System Sounds [3000 N500]

I hope this is not a double post
Please advise on how to disable the system sounds on a Lenovo 3000 N500. I'm reffering to the very annoying "beep" at critical battery power, or plug/unplug of the AC Adapter.
I have disabled all the sounds in Vista CP, but that didn't solve the problem.
    thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This worked on my Lenovo 3000 N500:
In "Control Panel" open "sound",Then in sound, in the "Playback" tab, double click on the "speakers" icon. This will open up a "speaker properties window. Click on the "Levels" tab and this will show two areas, speakers and PC speaker, click on the little speaker icon for the pc speaker and it should show a circle with a slash through it showing that the pc speaker is disabled. Click OK or apply whichever is highlighted.

  • USB Audio Codec DEMO driver

Good afternoon. Today I bought a mixer Allen & Heath Xone 42. I am having problems connecting the mixer to my laptop. I use Mac Os Lion 10.7.4. When you connect the system uses the USB Audio Codec DEMO driver. Sound enters the mixer, but is accompanied by a constant beep. Every 30 seconds. This is the way and makes the mixer unfit for entry. Please help me resolve this issue.
on the Internet found several similar complaints. Advised to remove the codec. But how to do it, I do not understand.
In support of Allen & Heath wrote the following:

  • USB Audio not listed

Before I installed Leopard under SYSTEM PREFERENCES>SOUND>OUTPUT "USB Audio" was listed. Now it no longer appears. How do I get it back on the list? Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hi Greg -

I have tried every angle listed above, and at the moment, will record in Audacity, export AIFFs and use those in PPCC.
I recently went through this grind with a new Rode Podcaster USB mic on my Mac.  It actually took allowing the Adobe support folks to grab control of my screen and work through figuring it out, though now that I look back on it: some of that may not have been necessary.  But, that aside, here's what they did:
Ran the Audio MIDI Setup application (built-in to OS X) and created a new "Aggregate Device".  In said device, they put the Podcaster as the input.
I then added the Line-Out as the Aggregate Device's output so that Pr could play sounds properly.
In Pr, set the Audio Hardware to that Aggregate Device.
Create the mono track as explained above, and click the "R" in it.  If the "R" stays depressed, you're good to go.
The problem I was having was that I'd chosen the Podcaster as my Audio Hardware in Pr, but didn't remember to add the mono track.  I didn't need to do that with my previous USB mic (Blue Yeti).  So when I clicked on the "R" in the audio mixer window, it would just bounce instead of staying depressed.  Creating the Agg device and the mono track seemed to fix that.
However: I'm not sure the Agg device is necessary.  I've since experimented a bit more with Pr and OS X and everything is working properly without the Agg.  In the OS X Sound preference panel, I made sure the input device was, indeed, the Podcaster with the output being my Line-Out port.  Within Pr, I set the Audio Hardware to the "System Line-In/Line-Out" choice.  From there, as long as I have a mono track set up properly, I can press the "R" button and go to town.

  • System sounds through internal speakers but other audio through USB Soundcard

    Hi there,
I am having a bit of an odd problem. I have a USB sound card and when using it plugged directly into my Macbook Pro retina's USB slot all audio comes through the sound card however when using the sound card connected to a USB hub almost all sounds except for system sound come through the speakers (e.g. deleting a file in finder noise comes out the internal speakers or sending an email sound etc.). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get all the audio to come through the sound card or as to why this is happening?
I have checked system preferences and it says USB Audio Device is the output. I have tried changing it to internal speakers and back again but this hasn't fixed the issue.
    Thanks
    Ben

Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup; select the desired output device and click on the gear icon at the bottom, select 'Play alerts and sound effects through this device'.

  • How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.
