You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
Also check your extensions for anything suspicious that may have installed:
* Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]] > Add-ons > Extensions
Alternatively you can start [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] - if you don't experience any problems in safe mode then an extension is likely the culprit. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.

How do I run a security scan on my macbook pro?

If you have only Mac OSX running  you don't need to run any security scan.
If any major security risk exists Apple offers Security Updates.
Just don't  install any applications not needed,
If you run Windows that is a different story.

  • I opened the attachment on a malicious email in error on my IPad and have been informed by the genuine company that it will download malware software. Is this possible on my IPad or is there a way of running a security scan to see if it has been infected?

I received an email that I now know to be malicious and inadvertently opened up the attachment on my IPad that I've been informed will download malware or a virus. Can my IPad be infected this way or does anyone know if there is a way of running a security scan to check if there is a problem? I do have the most up to date IOS software installed.

There is no anti-malware for iOS, at least none that actually does anything useful. The odds of getting any malware infection via an email attachment on an iOS device is quite low - practically non-existent. Unless you are seeing any issues, there isn't much to do, other than deleting the email and being more cautious in the future.

  • How Do I Run a Virus Scan?  Attempting to Resolve Gmail Access Issue.

Hello. I'm not technically savey and am in need to assistance in resolving an issue. I suddenly am no longer able to access my GMail account. The system will not accept long-used password. I'm working back through GMail assistance forum and was told "to run a virus scan on the computer," i.e., "scan your machine for viruses and malware. Get rid of any programs found during the scan." The message refers me to a Google Pack, which comes with free anti-virus software. When I check the website I don't see anything that looks like it is appropriate for running a virus scan on the computer.
How do I "run a virus scan"? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello Kappy, Thank you for your response. I reviewed a portion of the "Missing Manual" by David Pogue and figured out how to go into utilities and repair permissions. The following are the responses I got when I ran "repair permissions":
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/PlugIns/FRSources.frappliance/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .

So what do I do with this information? I'm not sure what it means and how it impacts the computer. However, after I ran this, I was able to complete the goggle form for a new password (my computer no longer recognized my years-old password) and obtain a new one and then access my email account again. (I opened a bogus email yesterday that I have since learned contained a virus so I am assuming this may have caused my angst.) So I'm now back to my gmail account but not sure how the above information related to the "repairs permission" should be addressed if at all.
Thank you again for your assistance. I am truly not computer savey and what is intuitive for some folks just goes over my head so I truly appreciate your help.

  • How do i run a virus scan on my macbook pro?

I have been told by student finance to run a virus scan as someone has hacked into my account and changed the bank details how do I do this?

Hacking of financial accounts happens, and it does not require access to your computer, either physically or via malware. Although there is Mac malware, there's none that you are likely to be infected with at the moment. See my Mac Malware Guide.  Most likely that answer was simply a catch-all answer from someone used to dealing with Windows machines.
However, if you really want to run a scan, use ClamXav. If it finds any malware, post the details here before panicking... most likely, it's just Windows malware attached to an e-mail message or something. (If it's actually Mac malware, the name of the malware will include the text "OSX".) Also, note that you should not let any anti-virus software delete e-mail messages, if they are infected, as that will corrupt the mailbox containing the message.

  • How do you run a virus scan on desktop?

My email was hacked and I want to run a virus scan on my Mac to see if there's anything corrupting my computer

It's most likely not due to any malware infection.

If you still want to do a scan, then a good bet is to get the free Sophos. But be warned, no A-V will find everything (definitions for any particular infection first have to be in the A-V catalog), and it may turn up false positives.

  • CF 8- security scan pins fckeditor issue after hotfix applied

    Howdy,
We're trying to get a new web site launched on CF8. We are running 8.0.1, and I've applied the fckeditor vulnerability hotfix. The hotfix
file shows up in the update field and classpath, and the file appears to be located where the hotfix notes say it should be. I removed the two connector files in the hotfix notes, since we don't need fckeditor for uploads.
Our client is using McAfee Secure to run a security scan on the site, and it repeatedly points up the fckeditor vulnerability, even though the hotfix has been applied.
I've checked and double checked the hotfix installation, stopped and restarted CF, rebooted the server, and still the scans insist the vulnerability remains.
I'm about at my wit's end, and the client is ready to pull the project.
Anybody had this kind of problem? Any ideas?
Thanks very much for your time and attention.

    Hi,
It might be because of the "Privacy Service" module which comes along with the "McCafe", try removing that using the McCafe uninstallation tools.

  • How do I run a system security scan on an iPad or iMac?

How do I run a system security scan for things like malware that i could have got from Facebook on an iPad or iMac?

iPads and Macs are very different.
For Macs there are many security suites and virus scanners out there you can use.  A Google search should point some out.
iPads at this time cannot get infected by malware or viruses. There is just nothing out there currently that can infect them.  As such there is no way to scan them for anything and its not really necessary.

  • Flashing "Running Security Scan..."

On Windows 7, 64-bit, MS Office 2010; when I try to launch an online software that integrates a fillable-form into my Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, at the bottom of my IE9 screen, flashing nearly 2 times per second, I see messages that say:  "Running Security Scan...".  I have to quite IE and force Adobe Acrobat to quit to stop it.  How can I fix this so that I can properly run the software?  (It works okay on my old slow XP, 32-bit coomputer, Office 2007, but the manufactureres say it is not an Office 2010 problem, nor Windows 7, 64-bit).  Also, this happens whether or not my Trend Micro Anti-virus software is running.

That's something local on your computer or browser; not the Adobe download site.
    Try from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • How can I get a downloaded application to run when security settings won't allow it?

I am trying to run an application today that I downloaded from Safari. I run this every single business day by control - clicking to open it in Finder. Today it won't allow me to open it all because of my security settings. When I temporarily remove my security settings it still will not let me open it. How can I run an application every time, when I want to run it, regardless of my security settings?
I am using Safari, Mavericks, and MacBook Pro.

Your control is allowing the app to run or not. I'm not sure what other type of control you could possibly mean since any app, once running, does whatever it does; you can't control any app past that point.
If you prefer not to disable the settings in the System Preferences, then right click on the app and choose Open. That will allow that app to run while still leaving the basic security feature on. You only need to do this once. The app will be assumed as trusted after that.

  • How to do a security scan on my iPad

i would like to know how to do a security scan just incase I've downloaded a suspicious app or something. Does anyone know how

There is no virus or malware in the wild that can affect an iPad, unless it has
been jailbroken. If that is the case in your situation, Terms of Use for the forum prohibit
    discussion of jailbroken devices.

  • How do I run a scan for viruses on a iPad

How do I run a scan for viruses on iPad

You don't. There are no virus scanners because there are no viruses that can affect an unmodified iPad.
The iPad is not a virus prone Windows PC, so doesn't suffer the same daily problems that Windows does.

  • How do you run a full virus scan

How do you run a full virus scan on the Imac

Take a look at this article:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing
Running a virus scan would not help at all - someone got your email address and is now hoping you're dumb enough to use the links they provided and give them information so they can use your credit card or checking acount number, password, etc.
I would change my user name and password immediately (if not sooner!!) - make it difficult to guess. Do it at least with the bank involved; however, to be safe, it wouldn't hurt doing it with others as well.
