How do I safely Reboot my Macbook Pro without losing my data?

Is it possible to reebot your computer without getting rid of all your data?
If it is how?
I have been on youtube and other forums but they all reset your computer to default.
I am using a MacBook Pro 13" with the new Mavricks Update.

Do you want to reboot your computer? Or do you want to reset to factory setting?
If you want to reboot follow nbar's advice.
If you want to reset to factory settings, you will need to do one (or both) of two things. You can buy an external hard drive and copy your files/photos/movies...etc onto the drive. Or you can subsribe to a cloud service like Apple's iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft's Skydrive. Chances are you will need more than the typcial 5 gb of free space. To be extra safe with your data, you could do both.
Once you do that, you can reset your mac. After you go throught the set up process, you can transfer your data back.
Hope this helped!

  • Can I sync my iPhone with my new MacBook Pro without losing my data & apps?

I was hoping to sync my iPhone (which is currently registered with my PC) with my new MacBook Pro. Is it possible to transfer my apps to my new MacBook or alternatively, sync my iPhone to my MacBook without losing all the apps?
I'm a little wary after syncing an iPod to a new laptop and losing all of my data, so thought I should check this before making any drastic changes...
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions,
A manual backup will do what you want. Here's how to:
Make sure your iTunes account is set up on your new Mac. Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases (Apps and bought media) by choosing File->transfer purchases in the iTunes menu.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new MacBook Pro without losing all my data and settings?

I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

My computer crashed.    How do I sync with a new computer without losing unsaved data?

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For items you cannot get the above way use a third-party utility such as Phone to PC

  • How do you stop an update on Pages without losing your data?

how do you stop an update on Pages without losing your data? i've connected my ipad to my phone's internet network through tethering. it's been ages already. but Pages is still not fully updated and i just wanna stop it anyway without losing my work inside...can anyone please shed light on this? i'd be absolutely certainty definitely grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can try pausing the download by tapping on the Pages icon, but you may not be able to use Pages until the update completes. I don't know that for sure, but I wouldn't want to take the chance on corrupting the app and maybe the files.

  • I want to make recovery partition on my new macbook pro without loosing my data

i want to make recovery partition on my new macbook pro without loosing my data

You already have one. Hold command r keys and boot the machine into it to see.
If your meaning you want another partition to boot your machine normally, like a cloned OS X partition, you can do that this way.
1: Make sure you have less than 50% of your boot OS X partition filled with data, this can be done looking at Activity Monior.
2: Another thing, all the OS X data needs to be on the top part of the drive, to make room at the bottom for the second 50% paritition. You can't always tell this easily but you'll find out shortly.
3: Use Apple's BootCamp software and create the second 50% partition on the drive and then exit it without proceeding further. If it fails or is not large enough, then the #2 above problem is evident and you need to clone and reverse clone from a external drive to shift all the data back up.
BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."
4: If you have a second 50% partition on the drive, next head to Disk Utility and select the second partition and change it's format to OS X Extended Journaled and the name to Macintosh HD 2 (name optional of course)
5: Next download Carbon Copy Cloner and clone the first partition to the second, make sure it's a PURE CLONE in preferences as the default is to save the states between updates.
6: Reboot the machine holding the option/alt key down, Startup Manager launches and your second boot partition is there.
This method provides a second bootable clone while portable for excellent sofware protection, however if the drive fails both parititions are lost, so external clones on extra hardware are of course needed also.

  • Syncing iphone to my new macbook pro without losing my contacts/text messages

    hello.
i just bought a macbook pro and im loving it
i transfered all my music and pictures from my pc to my mac
but now i need to sync my iphone to my mac so i dont have to use my pc no more.
im worried that i will lose all my contacts and my text messages if i sync my iphone to my mac.
everything is fine except that i dont wanna lose my contacts and my text messages.
is there any way to figure this out.
    please Help!!

Text messages aren't included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup, and the same for contacts unless you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, which must be manually selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book app on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book app on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
The same applies to calendar events before the first sync with iCal on your Mac.
If you transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac per the instructions included with this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your Mac.

  • How do I migrate to a new mac without losing application data

I've got an older iMac and have recently purchased a new macbook pro. I have an iphone and an ipad that I would prefer to start syncing with my new macbook but when I connect it, it warns me that it's going to wipe out my iphone first. I've already gone through and moved all my music, books, media & apps to my new macbook. I know I can go through the process of wiping out my iphone and then reset up again but apart from that painful excercise, the biggest issue is the app data will be lost. I've been checking the internet for a solution and everyone seems to have a different way of going about it but they don't seem to work. I also checked in the apple communities but I don't see any answers there either for this specific question.
Does anyone know the best way to handle this?
    jd

The best thing to do is to move all of your important data, including your iTunes library, from your old computer to your new computer. If you don't want to do that, follow the instructions here:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, or copy them from your old computer, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • How to install Windows 7 on Macbook Pro without a CD

I tried installing Windows 7 64 bit through boot camp, after I created a bootable disk drive through it on a usb and set it to install on 150gb of hard drive space it rebooted and said "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" I read I should try different USB keys and tried 3 different ones (A lexar 16gb, a Kingston DT101 G2 8gb, and a Kingston Datatraveller 16gb) none of them have worked so far. CD drive is broken so I'm looking for a way to do it without having to use a CD. Thanks.

When running Windows in a virtual environment Windows and OSx share your computer's resources such as RAM. Therefore your games can not use all your computer's resources when running.
If you install Windows natively then Windows and your games can and do use all your computer's resource such as RAM.
But as already said, older operating systems are not supported and will not run natively using Boot Camp Assistant. You must use Windows 7 if installing natively in Lion or Moubtain Lion.
