HOW DO I SAFELY REMOVE A DEVICE CONNECTED TO MY VAIO

Hello there, Martine288! Are you referring to devices connected into the USB ports of your Sony VAIO? If so, kindly follow these steps: Open up File Explorer (the Folder icon). Once you've opened up File Explorer, you will see all the USB connected devices under Computer. Right click on the device that you'd like to safely remove. Once you've right clicked on the device that you would like to safely remove, you'll get options of what you would like to do with the connected USB Device.  There should be an option named Eject. Once you've clicked on Eject, you should get a message on your screen that says "Safe To Remove Hardware: The device can now be safely removed from the computer." You can now safely remove the connected USB Device from your computer!  I hope that this answers your question!  Best regards,

Hi Martine288,
In addition to what TheSonyFanGirl1 taught you, let me show you the other way on how to eject the USB device from your computer.
That icon is located on the lower right side of the taskbar, when you click the triangular icon (with the arrow to the right) the USB icon will show up just like on the image. Left click on the USB icon then it will show you the options to eject the USB device, like what TheSonyFanGirl1 told you on the other post.
Now, you were asking if it's safe not to safely remove it?
If you remove the device when it’s in use (reading or writing), there is a possibility that the file will be corrupted.
If you just plug it in, view some files and closes everything, i guess you can pull it out without ejecting it.
Ejecting it properly is simply an extra level of security preventing you from destroying your own files.
Doing so causes the files to close gracefully preserving your data.
Again, it may or may not harm your files but it's better to be sure that it will NOT harm.
Regards,
Jen

i've just discovered that whenever i connect my nokia phone to pc via 'pc suite' mode, when i'm true with whatever i'm doing, if i go down the notification tray, i wont see any icon for safely removing my device. Is this an abnormality? Thanks

In very critical activities Suite will inform "Do not disconnect your phone", but basically otherwise you can disconnect at any time. Basically it it not recommended to disconnect your phone if there is a progress bar indicating that some activity is not finished, but even in those cases no harm happens if you disconnect your phone.

  • How do I safely remove a flashcard from my mac air?

How do I safely remove a flashcard from my mac air? I downloaded some pictures and cannot find the eject button.  Thank you.

If you have mounted drives setup to show on your desktop, just drag the icon of the flashcard to the trash and then remove the card. If you don't have mounted drives setup to show on your desktop, go to finder and in the left pane, locate the flashcard and click it. There will be a little eject icon next to it. Just click that and then remove the card.

  • How can i "Safely Remove" My Passport Ultra from my PC?

I can't EVER "Safely Remove" my My Passport Ultra drive from my PC!
The computer's an HP notebook (if that matters), and it's running Vista (64bit).
I can't believe that there's NO way to eject / unmount / "Safely Remove" the drive from my computer when i need to disconnect it from the port!
But i can't find any way to do it, other than shutting down the system entirely. Obviously, shutting down every time i want to unplug the drive is so RIDICULOUSLY impractical, i can't even consider it as an option.
The "Knowledge Base" pages don't seem particularly knowledgeable on the subject.
The only suggestions offereed there are to close any applications that are acccessing thedrive, including the Windows indexer and any virus/spyware programs that might be running.
Obviously I've already done that. I've set the drive to never be idexed or scanned/monitored for viruses and spyware.
And yet still, every time i try to eject the drive, it's the same message:
"Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device"
"Windows can't stop your 'Generic volume' device because it is in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again later."
Sometimes, even after i manually end the WD software via the Windows services menu, they just start back up again a few seconds later (even though i set them in the services menu to only be launched manually).
But the rest of the time, even when none of the WD software is running, Windows still tells me the drive is in use and won't let me eject it.
There's GOTTA be a way around this.
I've never had this problem with any OTHER external drive.
I'm still waiting for a reply to the Support Case i submited yesterday, but i'm getting impatient.
Does anybody else know any solutions to this problem? I can't be the only one stumped by it...

    Update:
I think I finally solved the problem (no thanks to WD...).
I had already excluded the My Passport Drive from being indexed by the Windows Indexer.
And from being scanned or protected by antivirus software.
And from being monitored by Windows Defender.
What i didn't realize is that the WD Smartware software and the other WD applications were running automatically at startup, whether or not the drive was connected.
And so even if i closed them manually, they relaunched automatically in the background again.
Finally, i used a third-party program to remove all the WD applications and services from the startup and autorun lists on my computer.
This seems to be working so far.
I've been able to connect the drive, manually run the WD Smartware application, perform a backup, and close WD Smartware again. And then Windows allows me to "Safely Remove" (eject) the drive without any problems. I've gotta say that it makes no sense for WD's software to be ser up to run automatically, but that's the way it was set up by default when i installed it. Maybe it would make sense if WD expected its users to leave it connected and running all the time, but this is a PORTABLE drive. Leave it connected and constantly running in the background would defeat the purpose of being "portable" entirely, wouldn't it?

  • Main hard drive listed as a "Safely Remove Hardware" device?

how do I get rid of the icon (in the system tray) ....and what would have if I "removed" the device.  This is my primary hard drive that is being listed.

It is possible that you never unplug this hardware. So how do you get rid of the icon? As far as I know the only way is to right-click the notification area, and selecting Properties. Under the Notification area heading, click Customize. Find the Safely Remove Hardware icon and select Always hide in the Behavior column next to it (press OK and Apply to back out).
Is this the only thing we can do to "hide" it??? Hide the systray icon?? It will be there by just clicking the round button with the little white arrow, actually it is there already (hidden) as I already did this since I installed windows.
Also in my case I do have 3 external Firewire/USB devices (2 HDD's 1 CD-RW) and I need to remove them by clicking the safe removal thing, right next to my RAID-0 HDD's...

Never post your email address in the forum. I have asked a mod to remove it. What router are you using? You generally access the router's admin area and you can check devices there.

  • WDS: How to replace or remove a device GUID?

We have a number of computers that are registered in WDS so they are auto-named when imaged. Though, as they age I am having to move hardware around to rapidly fix failed power supplies, etc.
I've run into a problem, trying to reuse a computer that was used somewhere else, where it previously had its GUID registered, but now I need to assign its GUID to a different computer name in Active Directory, and I am not allowed to do it:
    wdsutil /set-device /device:EL900-MUSIC-D /id:4C4C4544-0032-3010-8053-C2C04F354A31
WDSUTIL has detected duplicate GUIDs in Active Directory. The duplicate computers are:
    Name: E205-SB
    DN: CN=E205-SB,OU=Computers - EL Staff,DC=XXXX,DC=YYYYY,DC=ZZZZZZ
    MAC/GUID: 44454C4C320010308053C2C04F354A31
    Referral server:
    Boot program:
    WDS client unattend file:
    Boot image path:
    Join domain: Yes
An error occurred while trying to execute the command.
    Error Code: 0xC1040134
Error Description: A computer with the same GUID already exists.
Looking through the commands for wdsutil, it is very odd because there is only a "/set-device" command. There is no "/replace-device" or "/replace-GUID" or "/delete-device" or "/delete-GUID" commands.
So how do I remove or replace the GUID in the conflicting AD Computer object, without completely deleting the Computer object and rejoining the other machine to the domain?

    Hi,

  • How do I safely remove my sd card and usb flash drives from my iMac?

iMac newbie here.  After years of PC messes and crashes I finally converted to iMac.  However it's not always easy to find what I am looking for.  The first time I disconnected a usb flash drive a warning appeared on the screen.  I neglected to jot down the instructions.  Now I want to remove the SD card for my phone, and I don't want to mess anything up.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

You posted in the iMac forum; to properly dismount any external drive from a Mac, drag its' icon to the trash can. Then you can unplug it. I don't have an iphone, so I can't answer that. You'd get more knowledgeable answers for that question in an iPhone forum.

  • How to Safely Remove Hardware under Hyper-V 2008 R2?

    Hi,
I'm using Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, but it seems that there is broader experience/support with Server Core, so I'll try this question here.
There's no GUI, so how do I Safely Remove Hardware, e.g. a USB-attached external backup drive? I'm looking for a command-line tool to list removable drives, let me specify what to remove, and tell me when it's safe to remove it.
Also, how do I configure the drive properties (either safe removal or turn on write caching)?
    Thanks,
