How do I save a file after altering white balance?

Adobe has previously supplied incorrect advice. Adobe has now told me to use this forum to seek the correct advice. I am trying to alter white balance on some shots. The originals are in RAW (actually Sony's ARW). So I alter the shots in Photoshop and save as a DNG file. This requires me to save to a new location- no problem. However, when I open the altered shot (saved as  DNG), it has always reverted to the old (uncorrected) white balance. I have tried various ways of saving but this keeps recurring. Please does anyone know how I need to save the altered shots to "hold" the altered white balance. NB I have no need to retain the unaltered versions of the shots. Thanks

As Jon points out there's no reason to use DNG if your camera is supported by your version of the Camera RAW plugin:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The point of Camera RAW is to let you save color adjustments in a non-destructive way—the adjustments are saved as instructions rather than permanently applied to the image pixels. It's the digital version of an analog negative.
So you don't make the adjustments in Photoshop, you make them in Bridge or Lightroom and the adjustment instructions are saved either to an xml sidecar along with the file or in the Camera RAW database depending on your preferences (Bridge>Camera RAW Preferences). In Bridge you can make the adjustments, click either Done or Open, and the adjustments will be saved for that .CR2 image.
Here I've set a custom white balance, adjusted the exposure and clicked Done to save the settings. When I open the image now or in the future the "negative" will be "developed" using the saved white balance and exposure.
You can make additional adjustments in Photoshop, but those adjustments would not be saved with the .CR2 "negative". To use the image in other applications it has to be saved as a separate file (as a "positive")—.psd, .tiff, .jpg, etc. You can not place raw images in other apps like InDesign or Illustrator.

    HOW DO I SAVE A FILE AFTER I HAVE CONVERTED IT FROM PDF TO WORD

    Hi,
    After converting your file a box will appear on top of the window showing 'Download' option.
    When click on that your file will be downloaded and it will show the notification at the bottom.
    Click on arrow -> 'Show In Folder'.
    It will direct you to the location where your file has saved.

  • How do I save a file after getting an error in CS5?

    I was working on Adobe Photoshop CS5 on my 64bit Windows 7 when I got the following message:
    Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stopped working
    A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if the solution is available.
    How do a save the file before the program needs to close?
    Can I just close the Windows pop-up displaying the error, or will that also close the program?
    I have not saved the file in a while and I don't want to lose all the work I have done.
    Please help!

    By the time you see that error message, it is already too late.  Photoshop has already crashed.
    That's why the Auto Save feature in CS6 is so attractive,

  • In iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

    in iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

    It's rather more complicated that this.
    iPhoto is a lossless editor. You don't lose any quality on your shot in iPhoto.
    The file size you see reported is the size of your iPhoto Preview: this is what gets used if you access the data via a media browser. It's a "good-enough-for-most-uses" version of the shot. Email it, upload to websites, use it in Presentation, Word processing file etc
    If you want to set the quality yourself then Export the photo using the File -> Export command.
    You can choose to export to Jpeg, Tiff or png. Tiff is lossless but the file sizes are up to 10 times larger. Jpeg allows you to choose different qualities: High, Medium or low. The difference is the amount of compression involved. High quality means very little compression. It's not unusual for photos exported at this setting to have a larger file size than the original.
    Which setting you choose depends on the use you intend. Further editing, printing then high is important. Sending to Facebook? Well low will do just fine there as they're going to trash the file anyway.
    But the key point: the file size only becomes an issue when you export.

    I have Pages on my MacBook Air, friends cannot open when I send as an attachment to an e-mail. How do I save a file so a Microsoft Word pc can open.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    Pages documents can only be read on another iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Mac with Pages installed. To make a document compatible with Microsoft Word, you just have to export the document.
    To do that, just open the document with Pages, and then, go to File menu > Export > Word, and after exporting that document to Word format, just send it

    How do I save PDF files by default to the folder of the source file with Acrobat 9.0.0 Standard?

    I am not seeing that behaviour. If I right-click a link to a .pdf file, I get the file saved with the original filename.
    Maybe one of the settings in about:config controls that?
    pdfjs.previousHandler.preferredAction is a setting that has a value of 4 with my setup. I have no idea what that means, and I could not find any explanation anywhere. You could try using different numbers for that value and see if any make any difference. Why has nobody bothered to explain that setting anywhere?

  • How do I save a file in the Dreamweaver CC folder on my computer's hard drive?

    Hi,
    I bought Dreamweaver CC.  I am trying to put a flash button in Dreamweaver that will like to another web site.
    The problem I am running into is when I try to save the flash button into my computer's Dreamweaver folder,
    I get a message saying "Contact your Administrator" because it won't save in that location.
    I know that I need to save it in the Dreamweaver folder so it has the same path so the flash button with a link will work.
    How do I save a file I want to put in a Dreamweaver page into my Dreamweaver CC folder?  I keep getting that
    contact your Administrator message.
    Please help,
    John

    Honestly, you don't.
    DW is meant to be used with an individual "Local Root Folder" for each site you create with it. You should never have a reason to save into the DW program folders. Take a minute to go over creating a Site Definition in DW...

  • How do I save a photo after I have zoomed in on it?  I want to save the zoom-in as a new photo and can't work out why this doesn't work the same way saving a cropped image, or adjusted image does.  Thank you.

    How do I save an image after I have zoomed in on it?  I can't work out why I can't save a zoom-in the same way
    I can save a cropped image or an adjusted image. Thanks, Lily A.

    Hi Matt, thanks for your reply.  Have realised that Zoom in Iphoto is just  a viewing tool and not an editing tool.
    Was creating beautiful abstractions by zooming in and wanted to create a new image of the result.   Have since discovered that cropping after zooming takes me a little way to where I want to go but it isn't the same effect.  Will perhaps have to try to create it when actually shooting.  Am doing a photoshop course in February and maybe will learn a bit more then, too.  Am pretty much an amateur just finding my way.
    Thanks again,
    Best, Lily

    How do I save a file to a server using flex and coldfusion?
    On the CF side I might need to use this:
    <cffile action="UPLOAD" filefield="Filedata"
    destination="#expandpath('..\somepath)#"
    nameconflict="overwrite">
    And on the flex side I might need to use something like this:
    var sendVars:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
    sendVars.action = "upload";
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest();
    request.data = sendVars;
    request.url = _strUploadScript;
    request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
    _refUploadFile = new FileReference();

    onUploadIoError);
    _refUploadFile.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR,

    _refUploadFile.upload(request, "file", false);
    I just don't know how to put it all together in Coldfusion.

    In Pages how do I save a file with another name?

    I don't know if there is a less cumbersome way to do this (I'm still pretty new to Lion) but This is what I do - since "Save As" seems to be gone with Lion.
    I create a duplicate document - then click the red button to close the document - and a dialog box pops up and asks if you want to save the changes - I change the name in there and then save the file under the new name.
    You can also save the copy to the desktop - get info - and then change the name if the finder window.
    I copied this from the Pages help area. These help instructions were created pre-Lion I'm sure.
    Saving a Copy of a Document
    If you want to make a copy of your document—to create a backup copy or multiple versions, for example—you can save the document using a different name or location. (You can also automate saving a backup version, as Automatically Saving a Backup Version of a Document describes.)
    To save a copy of a document:
    Choose File > Save As and specify a name and location.
    The document with the new name remains open. To work with the previous version, choose File > Open Recent and choose the previous version from the submenu.
