How do I "save all"

When I try to shutdown or restart with many files open in APPLEWORKS, I am asked for each file whether I want to save it. I'm sure with an earlier Mac, there had been a "Save All" option.
I know there is an autosave facility, but that doesn't help.
If I didn't shut down properly, what just switched off, could I then rely on the Autosave, or would that creat other problems.
Thanks,
Ratrust

Hi RR (or is it RT),
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
There isn't, and to my recollection, there never has been as "Save All" option in AppleWorks or the Mac OS. It might be possible to construct an Automator process or to write an AppleScript that would save all open documents, quit the application(s) and Shut down the computer, but that would be a topic for a different forum.
One way of avoiding the Save/Don't save/Cancel question for each file is to make a habit of saving each document as you leave it. Press command-S before switching to another window or to another application. It's an extension of a habit I taught myself (and attempted to teach my students)—everytime you leave the keyboard, press command—S first.
AutoSave does help, but it's function is to ensure that you have a recent copy of your document, not a current copy. Anything you changed since the last scheduled autosave will be lost.
Even if you could rely on AutoSave to save your AppleWorks documents, an improper shutdown such as you suggest would introduce other problems for any open application and for the operating system itself. All applications do some cleaning up as they go through the quit process, whether the process is initiated by the user (through the application menu or by pressing command-Q) or by the operating system as part of the shut down process. The Mac OS also saves the current state of mounted volumes (such as your hard drive) before unmounting them, and does a number of other maintenance tasks as part of the shut down process. Although OS X goes through a self check and repair routine on startup, and can handle a shutdown through loss of power, I wouldn't make it a regular practice to shut down in that manner, even after saving everything and quitting all applications. The time you gain in the shutdown will be lost in startup as the OS finds more things in need of repair.

Barry

I have an IPhone 4 which I just updated with the latest software, which put in it in Recovery Mode. It has the picture of the plug with ITunes, I downloaded it now its saying its in Recovery Mode, how do I save all of my previous data without Restoring?
I updated the phone before backing it up on iTunes, now the update wanted me to connect the phone with iTunes and it says the phones in recovery mode and it must be restored before its used with iTunes. I go to click restore and it says it will reset it to factory default and I'll lose all my current data. I have all my sons pictures and videos along with this notes. I can't lose all of this data! Please help!

You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

How do I save all mp3 files as an attachable audio file in text messaging on a G'z One Commando? Some mp3 save as these types of files but I don't how or what I do differently.

In summary, it sounds to me as though the Mac concept of "hidden extension per file" isn't embraced at all by Photoshop.
So assuming the extension is always visible, what is the easiest way do each of the following (ignoring issues with integration with other apps):
    1.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.jpg
    2.  Save a JPEG as:  abc
    3.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.
    4.  Save a JPEG as:  abc.xxx
Since it seems to me we still haven't nailed down whether there's a disparity between how this works on Photoshop for Mac vs. PC, I'll answer the above questions for PC:
    1.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type (replace filename with):  abc
    2.  No difference than 3 on a PC.
    3.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type:  abc.
    4.  File - Save As, choose Format: JPEG, type:  abc.xxx
How is it different from the above on a Mac?
Is there something more complex, such as the sequence of operations, or another system setting, that I didn't cover here?  I normally always keep Explorer set so that file extensions are visible (it's global on a PC).

  • How do i save all my mail in my inbox and sent box?

    hello
i am going to upgrade my OSX to Snow Leopard
how do i save all my mail in my inbox and sent box then restore it when my new OSX is installed?
    thanks in advance
    tk

It's always good to have a backup, but Snow Leopard should leave all your data intact, just install new OS components & updated Apple Apps.
If you don't have room to back everything up...
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    For Address Book, quit AB...
    Files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    Folders...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/
If you do have room to back everything up...

  • How Do I Save All My Edits

How can I save all the edits (Presets?)I made to my pics? It might come in handy to know which changes I made in the near future to maybe come back at them. I need to save the original (unedited) pics too I guess.  If possible can some1 explain how to save them as a batch since I have thousands of pics.

Any edits should be saved automatically with the images. Open any edited picture and select the history panel and all the changes for that picture should be listed there. This data is contained with the other catalogue data.
All edits are non destructive and the origional image is left untouched. You can verify this by openning an image from the LR catalogue in another image viewer and see that the image has not been edited. BUT if you open the edited image in LR, the edited image will be displayed.
Your images will only be edited in LR unless you export the edited images to a new file. The new images will contain all the editting.
If you print an edited image from LR, your edited image will be printed but if you print it with another program you wil get the origional unless you exported the edited image to a new file and rinted from the new file.
If I need to use the edited images for a project, I export them as jpg's or psd's if using PS. These new exported images will be the edited versions of the selected images from this file even if opened with ay other image viewer.

Do you want to save the photos or your complete iPhoto Library?
To backup the library on an USB thumbsdrive, select it in the Finder and drag it to the icon of the thumbsdrive. Only make sure, the drive is formatted correctly. By default it will be formatted for windows systems and not MacOS Extended (Journaled) as required for photo libraries, see:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture or iPhoto.

  • How do I save all of the apps I bought on my iPad when I update to OS5

I want to update my iPad to OS5.  When I try, it says that I will lose purchased items off my iPad.  How do I save these items--books, apps, etc.  iTunes only downloaded the books that were in iBooks

If you connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes you should be able to copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases - that should copy apps, ibooks and iTunes media purchases. Other epub books or PDFs that are in the iBooks app should also copy over. eBooks that you have in other ebook apps should be backed up in the app's own store (e.g. Kindle books purchased from Amazon are on your Amazon account).
Before starting the update you should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, files, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
